Play & Learn Home Child Care is a state licensed home daycare in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago. We provide a safe, warm, loving environment, to create a ‘home away from home’ atmosphere, where children can play, learn and grow.

We are located just a couple of blocks from the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line and Metra stations, and from the i90 highway entrance; making it a perfect location for parents who may need to commute downtown for work.

History

Established in 2013.

Play & Learn Home Child Care was created by Nicole Selvaggio in 2013. After having her son in 2011, she decided to look for opportunities where she could work, yet spend a lot of her time with her son. Having had 6 years experience working in a daycare center setting during college, and having a friend who ran a home daycare, Nicole left her career in the hotel industry, to work in her friends home daycare. After 2 years of working in the home daycare setting, Nicole found a perfect location to run her own home daycare. She spent a year watching just a couple of children, while becoming licensed and perfecting her location. She has been officially licensed for a year and has been lucky enough to provide care for a number of families, most who have been with her for about a year already.

My daughter is currently at Play and Learn. We were lucky enough to find them when we were in a desperate situation. Nikki and Agnes are so great! My daughter loves going to Miss Nikki’s house. She learns so much every day and they do so many cool things! They have Messy Mondays, where they have sensory play. Workout Wednesday where they do some sort of exercise. There is also Fun Friday where they make something fun to eat. There is even a monthly newsletter to let parents know what is going on throughout the month. I’m going to be sad when my daughter is old enough to go to Pre-​K, as, she will miss all of the fun she has at Play and Learn!

My son started going to this daycare in January 2014 when he was around 3 – 4 months old. He’s now a year and a half and it’s clear that he loves going to daycare.
Nikki is great about communicating the big and small details of my son’s day with us, anything from «he didn’t seem as interested in eating as normal» to «he was in a talkative mood today» to «he learned to cover his mouth when he coughs.» My husband and I always feel like Nikki (and Agnes) actively keep us in the loop.
When we were looking at daycare options, we really wanted something more intimate than the bigger corporate-​run daycares. And that’s exactly what we found with Nikki. She’s really great and I feel lucky that we found her! It was a perfect fit for us.
I would highly recommend this home daycare. Nikki is a wonderful, hardworking, and organized person who is truly fantastic with children!

My husband and I found Nicole when we were looking for a licensed home daycare for our first child in 2012. As can be expected from new parents, we were apprehensive about leaving our sweet girl each day with someone else. However, Nicole set us at ease immediately. She was an attentive caregiver, bonding with our daughter and celebrating her milestones with us. She kept us informed about each day’s activities and accommodated requests we made re: what toys she played with, products we used, etc. It helps that Nicole has so much experience in the field and knows «tricks of the trade» to help the day go as smoothly as possible. For example, she always had our daughter ready to go, with her coat and shoes on, when we arrived to take her home each day. That really helped us get out the door and on with our day quickly. The only reason we left the daycare was because we had moved from the city. Though I can say that we did debate whether we could still make the logistics work, since we liked the arrangement so much!

My husband and I found Nicole when we were looking for a daycare for our children. Our son was three years old, and our daughter was only 3 months. I was going back to work after being on maternity leave and the search for a daycare was so stressful! Nicole eased my worries and anxiety. She would send us pictures of the kids throughout the day, and we would even have an update on what the kids were up to during the day at the end of the day. She was very attentive and caring towards our children. My son was sad to leave since he became friends with Nicole’s son. The only reason my son left the daycare was to start in preschool. She was so patient with our daughter who refused bottles since she was only breastfeeding at home. Nicole also helped us so much with reinforcing the potty training we were doing with our son. Nicole was an awesome caregiver to our kids. She genuinely cares about the children that are in her care. We loved having our kiddos at Nicole’s. We were sad when our daughter wasn’t going to be going there anymore only because my in-​laws asked to watch her.

Nicole watched our twin boys when they were first born and she was amazing. Our boys received the utmost care and attention with Nicole. She was very dependable and well organized. She also provided daily sheets of the boys activities which were really helpful. The only reason we left is that we were moving out of the area to be closer to family. I really can’t say enough good things and have referred a lot of my friend to her as well.
