I took a keyless remote and a stereo from them. Could say that it was a good deal. For them. For me it was just overpraised.
Electronics are good and are still working. The sound in the car is fine. The question is: Why I was not explained that for the same amount of money I can take better stereo car player ?
The one I took is working well. But It have functions, I do not need.
I just missed to take device with less functions but more powerful for the same price.
Otherwise I am happy with the service — the installed my new stereo very quickly and clean no dirt or dust in the car. Clean and fast job.

I purchase my automatic starter through Groupon for PhD last year, and I did have to pay extra for a module however I still thought I got a great deal on the installation of the system I selected. I dropped the car off while at work. I have not had any problems with the starter so far. Looking to take my mom to get one this year 2016, so I was completely satisfied with their work.

Jay was super cool his shop installed a remote starter on my 2015 jeep sports Cherokee and it runs and starts wonderfully. Can’t complain about his knowledge courtesy customer service and interacts with his clients well enough to remember you for the weeks to come. Thanks Jay! Say hi to your two little overgrown puppies.

I was completely disappointed by my experience with this shop.
I had several things installed in my truck.
*Keyless remote
* 2 12 in subwoofers
*alarm
*A flat screen.
The job was done quickly and the people were polite. The bass coming from the freshly installed woofers were powerful but when I went in and asked for improving my sounds I didn’t just mean bass, but that’s what I got. I asked what I could do to even out the sound, something I asked about before buying the subs, and they told me to add tweeters. After the work was done of course.
A couple months later
the woofers died. Just stopped working.
The remote starter was glitchy and worked when it felt like it
The tv kept falling out of it case. Which blocks my view when driving.
The worst my battery kept dying.
So I called them up and they checked it out before the warrenty expired. And I paid $ 50 for new/​replacement woofers. They screwed the tv on tighter, and «fixed» the keyless remote.
Ever since then my battery dies on my truck. Now it’s at the point where it’s messing with the alternator. I’ve replaced the battery twice, after they «checked» the electrical system.
The tv just hangs down and doesn’t stay up which is an obstruction blocking my veiw. I can’t take it off because they cut the roof fabric to install it.
The keyless remote works when it feels like it.
The ultra bass only worked for a couple of months after they reinstalled the new ones. I didn’t feel like paying yet again for replacements if they were only going to work for a few months anyway. Clearly there is a problem with the way they set up the electrical and now I live with the fact that I must ALWAYS have jumper cables on me. My alternator is now on the fritz due to the over load and will have to replace that soon to.
I just wanted to have a nice truck with sounds and Hassel free winter, a TV to keep the kids happy during long road trips…
I regret ever walking into this place, my truck was better off without anything in it. At least I never had to worry about constantly draining the battery.
They gave me a huge discount when I installed the things but I’m guessing it was only to pay for future bulcrap I was going to dealing with from their work.
The alarm itself I can say has brought me an enormous amount of fatigue as a pin can’t drop without setting it off! All night long! I bought it because I live in a not so great neighborhood but I’d rather not be hated by my neighbors so I leave it off. But it’s glitchy. and this is the funny part…
When it’s supposed to be off… I hope in and turn on the car and it goes off!!!
Just randomly decides I’m stealing the car while driving so it goes off!
I press the off button keep driving but the alarm light is still on and it goes off again. What a hoot!!! :-)
At least I did get a smile with this expensive purchase! The looks I get driving my truck while the alarm is going off us priceless!
Please find a better place to upgrade your vehicle. I see the good reviews and wonder why I didn’t get that lucky, but don’t leave it up to chance when it comes to the reliability of your vehicle. I don’t normally regret but when you get stranded as many times as I have or are late to important functions due to something constantly draining your battery you find yourself regretting…

I used the Living Social deal for a remote starter. I looked up the place and was well aware of the possibility of paying extra $$$ for a bypass module or an upgraded clicker. So before I bought the deal, I called the shop. They were quick and polite and luckily my car didn’t need a bypass module. They set me up with an appointment for the weekend.
When I went to the shop, they offered the upgraded clicker but weren’t pushy (I got it, and I like it). They told me it would be about 2 hours. I stayed in the shop and watched the Sox-​Cubs game on TV and read a book. I talked to about 4 of their staff while I was there and they were all helpful and seemed like good guys. One of them saw that I was reading so he made a makeshift-​chair for me with a speaker. Another one gave me some chips as we chatted about the baseball game. They only took 90 minutes and it works great!
I’m honestly kind of saddened/​surprised to see some bad reviews because I truly had a good experience here.

This place is fantastic. They make you fill like your apart of their family. Great customer service and the intelligence of their employees is awesome!!! Call and ask for Claudia…

5-​Star Customer Service.
Purchased 2 Groupons for their remote starters. Made our appointments and came on down.
We had a few hiccups on our first visit in the sense that things weren’t completely explained and wasn’t given the opportunity to be advised about add-​ons and/​or enhancements. The work, however was done expertly.
Came today for second starter and had the absolute pleasure of speaking to Claudia. Not only did she far exceed our expectations, she went above and beyond to correct the small issues that happened on our first visit and made EVERYTHING right.
I would highly recommend PH. D Electronics.

My son bought me a groupon for the remote start and I made an appointment to have it installed. The staff was professional and very friendly. There was an up charge due to my car being a push start and hybrid, but it was explained when I made my appointment. No hidden fees. My car was ready to be picked up earlier than I anticipated. I would definitely recommend Ph. d Electronics.

Ph.D Electronics has been given in my opinion a bad rap/​reviews! Are they deserved?
No, absolutely not. Not Deserved! After reading few Unilocal reviews I discerned that most reviewer sseem as if they did not read or fully understand the Groupons in which they purchased.
I had a great experience at Ph. d’s.
By the numbers: Saturday, 12/​20/​2014:
Called ahead discussed the Groupon for Remote Starter.
I took my car, older model, 2006 Infiniti G35. 12 Noon appt
arrived, checked in with Claudia, met & talked extensively with Jay the owner
to ensure I was getting the right equipment, what was the final cost with and
without the Groupon. Jay broke it down, all the way down. He clarified what I already knew I was to get per the Groupon; but I upgraded to a better quality remote starter after talking with Jay for about 10 mins. So he and I now understood what was expected and from this point I had confidence that all would be great and it was.
Location is exactly 2 blocks walking from PinkL. So I left the car; Claudia called
within 2.5 hours, car was ready. One of the installers gave an overview of the remote starter (twice) walked me to the car, gave a final demo and I left. Played/​practiced with car for rest of day/​night and
Also played/​practiced Sunday. Wanted to make sure all was working properly; or as I expected.
I have had the remote starter for 5 day as of this review date:
Here are my Pros:
— No problems to report; (if developed, I will update review)
— No false blinking lights
— No false alarm going off
— No failing to start
— No issues with any other items after install

This place is horribly overpriced for their quality of work.
I came in to get a double din touch screen stereo wired into my 2004 GMC Envoy. All I really needed was the harness wired.
I had already taken the factory stereo out myself, yet the charged me the full price of the installation.
I guess I expected them to at least warn me that they would charge full price even after I did half of the work.
But the worst, most unprofessional experience was that they sold me a dash kit for my stereo which they claimed was «universal». In reality, this was a SINGLE DIN dash kit in which all they did was make a sloppy alteration, which ended up looking so unprofessional.
They charged me $ 25 dollars for this part, when I could have gotten the correct part anywhere else for $ 6.

When I looked at the reviews on here I expected to be dealing with terrible, unprofessional people. However, this could not be farther from the truth. They are very professional and it seems that people just do not understand a good service when they see it. They clearly explained that the groupon does not cover the bypass module and it also states that when purchasing the groupon itself.
People should not be blaming anyone but themselves if they had an issue with the groupon situation. The only reason why they only got 4 stars is because they took longer than I was told. I will definitely be a repeat customer

Very unprofessional. Went based on a Groupon review, and was basically given the cold shoulder and no alternatives about my vehicle. Thank God I didn’t purchase the Groupon before going because it may have been an even bigger nightmare. Only thing I regret is the waste of gas, but that was better than a waste of money. I wouldn’t recommend this place. Probably will just go to Best Buy and let the real professionals install a remote starter for me.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I wanted to after all the negative reviews. I also purchased the groupon, but had a no incidence experience. To purchase a car groupon it should probably be assumed you have some basic car knowledge, or call ahead before scheduling. The deal even said to call and confirm or to check the online database if a bypass would be necessary. Not all keys have chips. I have a 2007 and do not have microchip. Since the system is aftermarket, it will not work a chipped key, hence the warning to check if a bypass is needed.
The guys were all very friendly. It is a neighborhood feel where people talk to each other and socialize, so being comfortable in your surroundings is a must.
The process is slow– it took them about 3 hours for me, I walked to my gym a mile down the road– they called me when my car was ready, I walked back, picked it up and haven’t had any issues since. I’m thinking about having them install a bluetooth system for me.

I’m really surprised these guys don’t have more reviews after their groupon bait and switch. I’m not mad the place was located in a terrible part of town. I’m not mad that I had to upgrade two remote starter systems. I’m not mad I had to buy two bypass boxes. I’m not even mad that they charged me an extra $ 50 to move a wire so that I can remotely open my door. I wasn’t about to install this myself, and even though it was more expensive than a better system at best buy I did it anyway.
What I am mad about is that neither of our starters were working this past week. I called them, described the issue, and they told me «Bring the cars in, hopefully it’s not something major». I take a few min to read the manual and it turns out the remotes are stuck in «2^nd car mode». When you look on the manufactures website, this is a popular topic under their FAQs. All I had to do was be next to my car and hold two buttons, and boom. Fixed. There’s no way the guy didn’t know about this small, frequent issue. These guys are greedy and continue to run scams after their big score. Good luck with longevity guys.

I came her solely based on a groupon that my wife bought me for my birthday. They were to install an automatic starter on my 2012 Chevy Malibu. I called twice before arriving. First, they have the most non-​businesslike hours. They’re only open from like 11a-​3p.
Then when I got there I showed him my key. He says, my car has a computer chip on it. (No duh! Every car made after the year 1996 does)
Then he tells me: you’ll need a bypass kit. I say: Fine, how much extra is it (thinking he’ll say $ 20−60− max)? He tells me $ 90+tax!
I’m not upset that I need the module. I’m not even that upset with how much it cost (although that’s really expensive). I was upset that I spoke with them twice before I arrived, days prior, and not one tech thought to ask me what kinda car I have. I wasted an hour driving there, when this could’ve been discussed over the phone.
Not to mention the unprofessionalism when they kicked me out after I told them that I wasn’t paying for the bypass. I don’t recommend.

I came in to install two front speakers and rear speakers and it sounded like crap. My system actually sounded worst than when I came. When I told them they messed up they blamed my equipment. I definitely would not recommend any audio work from here at all.

Beware !!! If you buy groupon, they will charge u extra when u get there!!! Called, made an appointment, gave them make, year, model, no extra charges were mentioned, waited 2 weeks for an appointment, when I got there, was told I needed to pay extra for the car that I drive. Read the fine print, the car was not included there.

I purchased a Groupon for a remote starter, installed by PH D, and overall was very satisfied. Very professional folks who helped answer my questions and made sure I understood the job.
I made an appointment for a Saturday and was told the job would take about 3 hours. Since their shop wasn’t in my neighborhood and we have only one car, I made plans just to wait. But the wait was made pretty enjoyable because of their separate waiting room with movie seating, flat screen TV and cable. Nothing wrong with hanging out watching college football while you wait. The work was done in the time frame expected and I was very happy with the work. So much so that my parents bought the same Groupon and had a starter installed a few weeks later when they visited the city.
The only reason I’m giving 4 starts instead of 5 is that there was a slight mistake made with my starter system. Evidently, depending on the type of car you have, you may or may not have to purchase an extra module to make sure all works as it’s supposed to. When I had the starter installed, they mistakenly told me that I didn’t need the extra module. That following week, the starter wouldn’t work so I called and they explained I in fact did need the extra module. So while I understand everyone makes mistakes, I had to schedule an additional Saturday to take my car in again to have this module installed. However, PH D gave me a sizable discount for my trouble, so this helped make up for it.
But again, overall very pleased and happy with these guys. Knowledgeable and professional. Highly recommend.
