NYC Bagel Deli

Usually come here now at least once during my trips to Chicago. This place is awesome for breakfast or lunch.
As the name suggests, it’s definitely NYC style. I’m more of a Montréal-​style fan, but I definitely enjoyed my order. I love the ridiculous variety of spreads, and how fresh the products are.
They take bagels to next level though, and their portion sizes are ridiculous. The smoked salmon and dill cream cheese was awesome. I swear the spread was an inch thick! Couldn’t even finish the whole thing.
Price-​wise, it’s a bit high at $ 14 bucks a pop. When you’re Canadian though, and your currency is crapping the bed, everything is expensive! Good thing I’m not paying:)

So this place isn’t the mom and pop bagel shop that you grew up with. Do you really expect that in the heart of the financial district?
What this place is a great bagel deli where you can pick up incredible pastrami sandwiches and eat in peace without being elbow gouged because you’re sitting 2 inches from another person.
This deli has a great selection of to-​go options, party platters, schmears, capers and anything else your hangry heart could desire for a wonderful saturday afternoon.
If i was any other bagel place I’d try to run a schmear campaign against them because they’re that good.

Something about a sandwich on a bagel makes it so much more tasty! They are always fast and everyone is so nice. Great food and I keep coming back for more. The turkey sandwich on a bagel is my favorite.

Great place, got a cinnamon raisin bagel which was LOADED with cream cheese. My only complaint was it took about 10 minutes to toast a bagel and throw some cream cheese on (this was around 12:45 and there were only a couple people in front of me).

Excellent pumpernickel bagel with lox cream cheese: the bagel had the nice chew that so many bagels (outside of New York) lack.

If I don’t eat breakfast at home, this is my only stop for breakfast. It seems like a simple sandwich, but it’s a filling, delicious bagel sandwich that you won’t regret buying.

As a native New Yorker transplanted here 6 months ago, I naturally flocked to a place called «NYC Bagel Deli.» But how deceiving! First off, I want to say how annoying it is that this place can be totally hit-​or-​miss. Today was my fourth bagel purchase here: the first time was good, second was meh, third was excellent, and today was such a let-​down. The bagel was overcooked so the outside was hard – almost as if it were stale. I got an everything bagel and the toppings were a joke. Thanks for the four poppy seeds and three grains of salt… I will unfortunately probably be back as this is one of the only bagel spots in Chicago I can find that doesn’t put caraway seeds in their everything bagels. I guess I will just set my expectations lower :-(

UPDATED: The last few times I’ve been here have been much better. I do believe it was a worker that made every order skimpy. I haven’t seen him recently, and the ones I do encounter now are great and give you your moneys worth. Now when I order extra cream cheese its mooore than enough.

Man… I feel awful about this.
I was going to reconsider the average rating but if what I ordered has its own large section with a beautiful yummy looking picture on your list of menu items, I am not expecting much from everything else that is listed under a number with a description.
I was really expecting a hole in the wall shop, but I was hoping too much since we are in downtown Chicago. Place is super corporate. The place had no wait around 12PM at lunch time. OK. I get its a little hidden, but its downtown on a Tuesday at 12PM. I wasn’t thrown off and was excited about a bagel sammy.
I opted for the Benny that was so beautifully displayed with its roast beef medium rare on the photograph with crispy onions, fresh lettuce and crispy wheat bread. I got a Medium well roast beef, pressed, pre made sandwich (who doesn’t like hot lettuce), which soggy buttered bread that had obviously became moist from being in the fridge previous to my order.
If you they are better than this, I m sorry. If this is what they are advertising, they need to rethink their campaign.
Definitely don’t get the Benny.

Yes, I’ll be back. Thank you groupon, for yet another 5 star experience. I love the build your own bagel with a ton of variety to choose from. My turkey was piled high with my choice of cheese and toppings, and side of fruit. I could barely get it into my mouth– and I have a really big mouth. Their takeout container is nice and neat and keeps your sandwich ready to eat! The service was quick and efficient. Plus, they have black n white cookies. I mean, c’mon, why can’t you be located just a little bit closer to me so I wouldn’t have an excuse not to come here for lunch every day?!

I’ll begin by saying that the food is outstanding. Really really good. But you pay for it — it’s a relatively expensive lunch location in an area with a lot of options. And it’s not real quick.
However, my real reason for the 3 stars was the surly guy running the register on my last visit. I asked about the status of my order (going on 10 – 11 minute waiting for a turkey sandwich) and I got an attitude that told me he didn’t really care about the long wait, nor the fact that 5 – 6 people that ordered after me already got their food.
I may or may not go back; if I do it will be for the delicious sandwiches.

Freakin’ awesome. Massive sandwiches and bagels full of fresh fillings. Juices, fruit, cookies and intelligentsia brew on the burner.
The 90s tunes and the river view are a definite bonus.
Pro tip: if your name is Bob, don’t try to walk out with the order for Jeremy. That’s right man, I’m calling you out on Unilocal

I have missed nice big bagels with tons of cream cheese. You go to Einstein or any other place and they just barely use any. Here the bagel is as large as my hands, and they load that baby up.
I ordered a bagel and cream cheese and the bacon cheddar breakfast bagel. Both were superb.

Not sure what I loved best about this place; the view of the river, the awesome 90’s tunes they played, or the food. All were great. At 11:45 on a Friday, this place was not mobbed, and we were able to snag a table. As I was deciding on what to order, Will Smith’s ‘gettin’ jiggy with it’ was pumping through the speakers.
I don’t remember the name of the sandwhich I got, but it was a roast beef with horseradish and some other stuff — and it was very good and a large portion and made fresh. My friend got a reuben and loved it. A bit pricey, but pretty much everything is in the loop. A sandwich, chips, and a drink ran aout $ 13.
I’ll come back here for sure — the food was good!

I tried the Benny– roast beef, cheese, horseradish sauce and giardenera. Typically I do not like horseradish, and I forgot to ask them to not use, but I actually like it on this sandwich. There was a lot of meat on that sandwich (and side of your choice) and though $ 10, that was worth it seeing as I got two meals from it! I had a tuna sandwich on another visit and found it fair. Nice view of the river while you eat (see pics posted)

This place is yummy, yummy, yummy!
I order breakfast via GrubHub from NYC Bagel Deli often. Nothing fancy– a bagel and cream cheese and a large coffee. The bagels are delicious, the cream cheese is fresh (the veggie cream cheese has FRESH veggies in it!) and plentiful, and the coffee (Intelligentsia, my favorite!!) is hot. They have several different syrup flavors to use in your self-​service coffee and I haven’t been disappointed in any of them. My food is ALWAYS waiting for me when I get there and the employees are very nice.
I had a bagel sandwich once for lunch and it was HUGE. MASSIVE. I could only eat half. You can order anything from here and be assured you’ll get your money’s worth.

If my bathroom scale didn’t scream in protest, I’d eat the bacon and cheddar breakfast bagel every morning. The bacon is so crisp and tasty and the bagels are soft, chewy and flavorful.
The guys here are nice and make for a pleasant morning interaction.

This Deli is FFLA Approved. The Fantasy Football League of America had a meeting here for the Trophy Exchange. The Indian Redmen agreed to take the trophy and deliver it to Sasquatch.

The Pastrami SaMich was Awesome, but very pricey. The meat is sliced fresh, but they could have had more meat. If you are going to call yourself a NYC Deli then you MUST have a lot of meat. For a Pastrami SaMich on Rye with Cheese, Small Bag of Cheez Its and a Fountain Drink it came to $ 12 something.
You also have to grab your own chips and they didn’t have many to select from.
if you add more meat, get my chips for me and lower your prices then i will give you 5 stars.

I pass by this place all the time on my way to work and now I wonder why didn’t I come here sooner?
The half sandwich and soup combo is probably one of my fav things to get here. If you include your medium pop and the meal it comes out to 9.98…not bad for a loop lunch. You get your pick of sandwich, bread, pick of side, a giant soup of your choice and pickle. Its a pretty big with enough leftovers to eat the next day at work. What gets better is the million of choices you get! I am a lady all about options… especially tasty ones!

I frequent this place for one reason: They have porkroll!!!
And even though they overcharge for it and don’t know how to slice it, there is nothing sweeter than a slice of salty goodness from the east coast. They will even sell you the 1lb roll if you ask nicely.
You can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can’t take the jersey out of the girl!
