This place is great. Great food at decent prices. The people taking the orders are attentive and very kind. Overall great place. nothing bad to say.

Been going to this place for years. There are many Nicky’s in the city, but this one blows them out the water. Why? They keep it simple. The menu is just right. Up until now, I have tried every item. My go to is typically, well I really don’t have a go. It’s all a go. As a matter of fact, I just finished a beef/sausage combo, dipped with hot giardiniera. If around the neighborhood, stop in. You won’t be disappointed.

Having a plate full of gyro meat thats insanely plentiful as well as delicious was crossed off of my bucket list today. They have a gyro plate for 750 or something, and its insane. Like manhattan halal cart level. You can get a veal parm sub for 2.95 its amazing, and that price well, it’s not a typo. Enough said. Stay black Chicago

i usually always enjoy these little burger/gyro joints. but this one. not so much. service a little slow. took them a while to take my order. i ordered the big baby because of all the reviews on here. also ordered a polish hot dog and a gyro. big baby — i thought it was something special. but its basically a cute name for a double cheese burger because thats exactly what it looks like when i open it up. it had grilled onions in there with 2 slice of cheese and 2 patties. the meat was really thin and it didnt taste that great. i think it the quality of the patties. polish hot dog — also didnt enjoy it. meat again tasted very generic for some reason… gyro — the gyro wasnt too bad. actually the meat tasted good and it came in a big portion too. but the pita bread on the other hand. its a little hard and it made it hard to eat. i much rather go to maxwells to get my burgers and polish. way way better there… and the gyro. there is other options around the area for it that makes it better.

The chicken tenders/strips from here aren’t actually that bad. Pair em up with the fries and I think the cholesterol rise is really worth it — You get a choice of ranch or BBQ dipping sauce. I always get my cheeseburgers from these type of stands with grilled onions. Whatever you put on your burger, from this place, it’ll taste like it wasn’t sitting on the grill for more than what it should be. Hot dogs and all that other good stuff on the menu are good to order too! It’s a cool spot to have a quick bite, as long as it’s not during break times. Or maybe it is. I guess it depends on whether or not peeps are on the go or not.

Don’t expect anything fancy — just expect good greasy food in large quantities at excellent prices. That’s Nicky’s Carry Out in a nutshell. And once you crack open that nutshell and step up to the counter to place your order, you’ll be addressed by a no-nonsense employee who is on a mission to get food to you in as short a time as possible. You say the word, and your order is on the way. You make a payment, and your food soon arrives. I have never had to wait more than 3 minutes total from order placement to food-bag handover. Note(not just from me, but also plastered a few times on their walls): CASHONLY. They luckily have an ATM on-site if you’re desperate for cold hard cash, but fair warning needs to be given. Even more luckily, you won’t need a whole heckuva lotta cash to get your food. The prices are quite good and the portions are a decent size(I’m a fat guy — that should translate to «possibly too much» to any skinny folk out there). The Big Baby is one of their star attractions. It’s a double-cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, grilled onions, and pickles. You can get other toppings like lettuce and tomato if you’re not a purist or if you are a salad afficionado or something. The cost(without doing the combo and getting fries and soda) is only $ 3.15. Keep in mind that they’re not the largest of patties, but again — I found it to be a decent size. I had the Big Baby combo with fries and a drink today for lunch and it didn’t make me all logey/sleepy at my desk the rest of the afternoon, so I’m glad. Their gyros were also pretty good the last time I had one of those — and I haven’t ordered the Italian Beef, but someone else in the group did a while back and I recall that looking hefty in size and not so hefty in price as well. Smelled dern tasty as well! The fries — they’re more of a shoestring variety, so there’s a lot more surface area to therefore be grease-laden. They had an okay taste, given the price. I will have to remember to ask for them well-done next time to 1) see if they will do it and 2) see if it takes the fries from OK to OMG like I’ve experienced at other establishments who understand what«well-done fries» are supposed to be. I can’t say much else for the place. There are some booths if you feel like eating in at a place called Nicky’s Carry Out. Given the fact that they have an A/C in the room, I’d consider eating there — if it weren’t for the fact that my office is just a few blocks away to eat in our lunchroom. All in all, I have to say that I recommend Nicky’s to anyone who can stand eating at a greasy-type foodery without being a worry-wart or calorie-freak. Just get in there, fork over the cash, and get yourself a heaping helping of greasy love in a paper bag.

I came here with a group of Chicago land Musicians for a pre-gig dinner. Since we were kinda in a rush we ordered a hot dog special that consisted of two hot dogs with a large trey of French fries, well I believe it was a special(since the place doesn’t accept credit cards, one the guys bought me dinner.) The service was great and the food was decent(you known hot dogs!) I believe their main thing is Polish and Gyros. It’s a great place to grab a quick bite.

Finally got around to trying this place out. Ordered a big baby, beef with sweet peppers — dipped, gyro and 2 large fries. I had the gyro. Decent size and the meat was flavorful. Pita was a bit thinner and harder than most places. My guy had the beef and I took a bite(not a big Italian Beef fan) and thought it was too salty. He thought it was a bit salty and he likes salty food. Fries were meh! I’ve definitely had better. My sister had the big baby and she said nothing special this place. It was quick though. I’ll come back for a quick meal if I’m in the mood.

It was a delicious beef sandwich. Right up there with portillos. Good healthy sized sweet peps. Beef had an extra saltyness that left me wanting more. In all I wouldn’t drive more than three miles to come here. But for a greasy spot the beef was as advertised.

I’ve lived so close to McKinley Park for all these years yet have never tried Nicky’s. Our HR Manager actually came to me and said«You’ve never had a Big Baby?!» She thought I was joking but I really had no clue. So we ordered lunch from Nicky’s and brought it back to the office. For the price of the items on their menu, the portions were huge and delicious. I, naturally, had to try a Big Baby for the first time ever and it was delicious — reminded me of Maxwell Street burgers but bigger. The fries were good too. The second time I had Nicky’s, I ordered a gyros and man was that thing massive. Tons of onions and tomatoes and extremely generous on the tzatziki sauce too. Great and inexpensive place for lunch, but not very friendly on the waist! It’s ok though, I’ll just spend an extra 30 min on the treadmill!

If you’re from the McKinley park area, you heard the phrase«You can’t go wrong with Nicky’s». Friendly service who remembers your orders if you’re a regular. The infamous«Big Baby» is the best thing there. Fast & very good on your pockets. You get filled up & feed the family.

***[DISCLAIMER] Nostalgia-laden review of EPIC proportions!*** If you grew up within two miles of McKinley Park, you’ve eaten at Nicky’s on Western… no exceptions. I don’t care about Nicky’s on Kedzie, and you know what? We never even HEARD of Nicky’s on Kedzie, so take that, Nicky’s on Kedzie! THIS was the place to go for the best in neighborhood Chicago cuisine! Cheeseburgers, gyros, chicken sammies, the Polish dogs… think«Chicago» and you have it right there! Huge portions, greasy food, greasier fries and for carry-out, a nearly translucent bag by the time you get home… oh man… I just ate a little while ago and already I wish I was back in ChiTown for a Polish and strawberry shake! I know that parking on and near Western Blvd is a joke — it always has been — but that’s no excuse. I walked from W 34th St and Western as a kid every other day! ;)

Had a big baby(double cheeseburger) and a polish from here, both with ketchup and grilled onions. Total came out to be around 5.50 or so. The polish was OK, but not the best I’ve had. It seemed a little small and not up to the same level as the polishes at Jim’s original or Johnny’s. The bun had poppy seeds on it, which is a plus. The big baby was a winner, though. Nice soft bun, flavorful meat. There are three booths and a counter by the window. I was in and out within four minutes. This place is not open on Sundays. If you’re in the neighborhood, this place is worth stopping by, but don’t go out of your way to eat here. P. S. This place has no relation to the Nicky’s on 58th and Kedzie. Apparently there are a lot of «Nicky’s» out there.
