So here I am a decently new car enthusiast looking for a shop to install some new suspension and a exhaust. Well L and L delivered beyond that, Luis Jr and Sr where more than helpful and kept me informed throughout the week. I asked if they could squeeze my new brakes in the installation process, and they were more than happy to do a brake job as well. The turn around time here is nothing but amazing and there prices are very fare. These guys are quick, clean and go above and beyond to help a customer.
If i could give them a ¹⁰⁄₅ i would.

These guys are phenomenal. I never review good or bad on Unilocal but felt they truly deserved it. Great price, quick turnaround time, and flawless work. Additionally, the last time I had body work done the car smelled like paint for a week. With these guys no paint smell whatsoever. I’d absolutely recommend to anyone and highly suggest you come here before going anywhere else. Save yourself the time.

L&L is great! Luis and his son do phenomenal work in a short amount of time. Quick, fair, and great service. I gave them a call to see if they could do a pre-​purchase inspection on a car I was about to buy and they did it the same day without an appointment. Also, a couple months later, I had a few leaks that needed to be fixed and they did a great job in finding them, getting the parts, and fixing them. I will definitely only be coming to L&L for any future service on my BMW. Will definitely recommend.

Called during the week to get an estimate for brakes. Luis Jr. Gave me a competitive price and told me to bring my car in. Saturday morning I brought my car in and he told me I would need to leave my car and they would need to look at it and see what all needed to be done, I received a phone call letting me know what they assessed and the final price. I gave them the ok and was able to pick it up a few hours later. My brakes feel fine that annoying grinding was horrible. Overall I was very pleased with Luis’ customer service and he wanted to make sure their services provided was worthy of a good review. :) I would def go back for my auto service needs. After about a month of trying to schedule a maintenance check with the Cadillac dealer in the city, I found L&L on Unilocal with their stellar reviews. They were not only extremely flexible and told me I can drop off anytime, but they are fast! They said it’d take a couple hours after the dealer told me it would take up to four days just to read my check engine light.
I am a woman who is not highly knowledgeable under the hood. However I have a blood line of automotive engineers and mechanics in my family and know when I’m being up-​sold. Rather than list off all the things wrong with the car, Luis started telling me the things that were running great. I was expecting serious issues and probably could have been sold on a hefty repair. They didn’t tell me I «needed» anything, refreshing considering most places say you need 10 things that same day.
They suggested I get winter tires (which I already was expecting) and gave me a reference to a quality brand for a fraction of the price. Needless to say, these guys are wonderful and are now my go-​to and recommendation.

Terrific service. Luis Ortega is a very reliable, honest mechanic and he runs a tight shop. He had been servicing my previous car for years (HONDA 1996), with great results. He also bought my new car for me (TOYOTA) and he is servicing that as well. I would highly recommend him for purchasing your car. He goes to neighboring states and buys lightly used cars from dealerships, etc in GREAT prices and condition!!! Very trustworthy shop.

My family and I were driving from Florida to California and home to New York. The ‘check engine light’ came on in Chicago and we were losing antifreeze. I needed a dependable mechanic so as not to be taken advantage of and found them on Unilocal.They fixed the leak and did a full diagnostic. The engine was fine. Not only did they not rip me off, they did a bunch of work for free (break lights, reverse light, antifreeze). I definitely recommend them. Two thumbs up and hats off. (And I have never written a review until now.)

Luis Jr. & Sr. are good, honest mechanics. I bought a used car and had them inspect it prior to purchase. There were one or two things in need of repair that I couldn’t do myself, and they were quick and thorough the entire time. In fact, there was a slight issue with the car after the repair, and when I took it back they fixed the issue (in hindsight it was unrelated to the repair) as well as did a deeper inspection (looked at my timing belt) after I casually asked about it previously.
If you want a good, honest mechanic who’s going to explain what they did, give you a fair price, and give you a quick turnaround, these are your guys.

first of all I do not know anything about cars. I spent a good deal of time looking at Unilocal and talking with neighbors in the hope of finding an affordable and honest auto body shop to repair the damage my 16 year old son did to my 18 year old lexus.
Boy meets pole plus some rust problems equates to my needing a new front bumper, new front foglight, and a good deal of rust repair.
I took the car to a guy in Highwood il, that was recommended — 2 days work $ 3,200 quote.
I found L & L on Unilocal — met with with Luis Jr. and explained that I did not want perfection I just wanted something that would hold up for three years or so — car drives like a dream and I just wanted to keep it until my kid graduates highschool. Luis explained that his price would be fair and that there is not way to handle rust except the right way — cut it out. I left him the car, went to work and got a quote via phone two hours later. The cost $ 1,800 if I was willing to let him put in a used fog lamp. This fee included a new bumper and paint, repair of hood rust and paint, cutting out rust on quarter panel and paint, touch up of door and paint, cut out rust on trunk lid and paint.
The car got a complete makeover and looks awesome!!! My son cant believe how nice this 18 year old car now looks. That coupled with the fact that L & L’s quote came in so low is why I will be bringing all of my car repair needs to L & L Auto Service.
Luis Jr. also took the time to show me a few other things that might eventually need to be looked at and he provided quotes for the work. No hard sell — told me to think about getting my oil leak repaired before winter or be prepared to keep a quart or two in the trunk.
Again — Luis and the crew at L & L greatly exceeded my expectations and provided service and advice that went above and beyond — that’s why the get 5 stars from me.

Absolutely great people. Luis Sr and Jr were both fantastic. Went there after my car broke down. I’m from Ohio so I knew no one but they were very kind and helpful. They got me my car completely done with all original parts in a day. I recommend highly. Only people I’ll go to in Chicago from now on.

So, of course I made the classic mistake and bought a used car without a mechanic to inspect it. I bought her in Feb 2014. I figured, if it can make it through a Chicago winter, it can make it through anything. She did with flying colors and so I dubbed her old reliable Bessie.
July 2014 rolled around and my poor Bessie isn’t having any of this heat. Bessie freaked out one night and left my husband stranded on the I-​90. Luckily, he wasn’t alone and was able to herd bessie off to the shoulder.
In comes Luis and gang to the rescue. The next morning, they picked up my car and inspected her. I don’t remember the mechanical details, since i left it up to DH to figure out, but Bessie came back safe and sound with a decent bill.
I never felt like I was being ripped off and DH trusted him as well (that’s saying something for a Puerto Rican from the Chi).
Bessie needs help with some emissions issues and I can think of no one better to care for my baby. Thanks so much L&L for keeping it real!

I was looking for a place to get my breaks worked in and came here because of the Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed! Louis was very sweet, friendly and patient as he explained what was wrong with my breaks, how it all worked and what it would cost. I was given a very fair price for the work that was done. I never felt that Louis or his (cute) son were trying to take advantage of me, only that they wanted to help. I highly recommend L&L!

My wife had been taking our ’99 Camry here for a couple of years before we started dating. It’s still our go-​to. They’ve earned our trust. They do good work and are very descriptive with the work that they do. They stand by their work, too. Luis is a good guy, an honest businessman, and is always good for a smile. It’s a small family business and I can tell that he loves what he does. His son works in the business as well and does excellent car audio work, too. Both are articulate.
Overall, if you take your car to this place, you’re going to get a full description of what needs to be done, why, what each part costs, why it costs what it does, and a fair rate for labor. When that warranty runs out, by taking your car in to a dealership, you’ll be paying way more than you should. L&L will give you the work your car needs for a much more reasonable price.

Luis and his team are the best! They have taken care of our good old ’99 Camry for several years now, from routine maintenance /​wear & tear to accident-​related damage & tire repair. Luis is so knowledgable and super friendly, and he always explains everything really well. He also let’s us know what maintenance jobs he notices will need to get done at some point, without ever pressuring us to do it right away (like they are known to do at the dealerships). Service itself is always exceptionally prompt, even when parts need to be ordered. His prices are fair and he’s been known to make things easier for us when we’ve hit bad luck (like potholes!) which is truly above & beyond. We definitely trust him & recommend.

Luis and team are the real deal, folks. We came here on a reco from a friend and the great Unilocal reviews sealed the deal. My car was making a crazy grinding noise that I just knew needed immediate attention. He took it in same day I called and called my hubs the next day stating what the problem was and everything else that should/​needed to be done. Now mind you, this was a free estimate & because I brought it in late, he took it free overnight to check it out. He told us what we should do in addition to the original problem, but never once pushed it on us or made us feel like we HAD to do it. It was more like a friendly suggestion, especially with this brutal winter coming up. My hubs said he was completely honest about everything b/​c he knew what was new and what actually could use replacing and Luis told him just that. So it was more than we anticipated, but definitely worth it and we feel safer than ever. And we found a guy that we will keep coming back to, which is the best part of all!
We even called later in the day to ask to replace one of our headlights b/​c it’s always in and out and he went one step further and found it was a circuit problem and fixed it — no charge. That’s service above and beyond, folks! What a great and knowledgeable guy! It’s an awesome feeling having an honest, reliable guy to go to who really knows his ish! Highly recommend!

In life you need to have a mechanic you can trust & rely on. THIS IS IT! Luis is professional, honest, up front with prices, & one hell of a guy. When I had my Civic with steering wheel & front end work, one mechanic wanted to charge me over $ 1000 to do the job.
Capitulating to the fact that I had no other options, a friend referred me to Luis. $ 375 later & all was fixed. He even gave me a 6 month warranty on the work!
And when there has been call back work I my cars, his team always takes care of it no charge – but his work is solid & that’s only happened once.
He even sells cars! I bought my CRV from him & he’s done all the work on it.
Again, honest & always up front with the work. We have two older cars & I wouldn’t take my cars to anyone else in the city. His son, Luis Jr. is on point too!
Just get to this spot, you won’t regret it.

I needed to get a pre-​purchase inspection on a used car I was thinking of buying from a Honda dealership. I wanted an independent opinion from a mechanic and found L&L on Unilocal.They were close-​ish and had good reviews – I now know these reviews are well deserved, and am here to add my own 5 star review.
I called Saturday morning at 10am and asked if they could get me in within the 3-​hour time frame of my extended test drive. Luis said that they were full at the time and asked if I could come in one hour, at 11am. I agreed. I actually showed up around 10:30am because the drive was quicker than anticipated – I parked the car out front and went in just to let them know I was there and was going to wait outside. However, amazingly, Luis was able to get me in a whole half hour early!
They looked over the car (a Honda) and Luis took me into the shop and showed me everything he was talking about and his recommendation. He was very clear, patient, and explained everything really well.
When I went back to the lobby/​front counter to pay, Luis Jr. (I believe Luis’ son) was able to give me some more advice about buying a used car, especially the used car I was looking at. Great customer service. I’m glad I found this shop!

One of the best mechanics in town! Lou is the greatest. Friendly, extremely knowledgeable, honest, and gets right to the point about whats wrong with your car. He almost always saves the broken parts so if youre like me and you let things go to the last minute, its always reassuring to see the actual wear and tear that is a good part of the cost of owning a car in the first place.
I’ve been going to him for almost a decade. This isnt an «alley mechanic»; his prices are what you’d expect from a real, certified, professional and full featured mechanic’s shop, but that being said, he’s definitely cut me a little slack on the price more than once. I’d tried several other mechanics over the years before finding L & L and this one is definitely a keeper.
