Best blond highlights ever! Great price! I had such a wonderful experience I almost don’t even want to share! Eva, the owner, did my blonde highlights, she was extremely articulate, artistic and did such a fantastic job! I feel so lucky to have found her! She was such a sweetheart too! I cannot wait to go back for a haircut. This is one talented young lady!

They are really nice and do good work. I’ve been coming here awhile to have my hair cut and colored. I’m always pleased.

I don’t even know where to start. The polish was all over my bleeding fingers! They use the same buffer for every client which is very unsanitary! And there is no hand washing sink– instead you are required to wash your hands in a shampoo bowl! Go somewhere else for a manicure!

Eva is the only person who knows how to cut my hair! She’s fantastic!
We live in the South Loop but our entire family will travel up to L&E salon to have Eva cut and style our hair. She’s wonderful!

This was a nightmare of an experience for me.
I’m fairly new to the Chicago area and haven’t found a regular stylist yet, so I was shopping around for a decent price. I bought a groupon for this salon for a haircut and full highlights. I got there, explained that I wanted 2 – 3 inches cut off my length and showed them a picture of the highlights I wanted. They told me what I wanted would cost $ 40 more than what the groupon covered because it would need toner? I thought fine, but they glanced at the picture for 5 seconds and that was the only discussion of my color that we had.
I had a stylist named Jose. He cut my hair first. He cut about 2 inches, and I told him to go just a little bit shorter. He then proceeded to cut off THREE MORE INCHES OF MY HAIR! Luckily I have had shorter hair before and am not too picky about my length, so I wasn’t extremely bothered, but it should’ve been a sign…
Instead of the natural looking, caramel colored highlights I wanted in my brown hair, he bleached the entire bottom half of my hair, turned it yellow, and tried to leave it at that! Not at all what I wanted. I probably could’ve stopped this early on, but they never spoke to me about what they were doing! They yammered on to each other in Spanish while pointing at different things, but I don’t speak Spanish and I was totally clueless as to what was happening to my head.
After he showed me his «finished» product, I said it was not at all what I wanted, so a female stylist came over to try and fix it. She basically dyed the bottom layer back to my natural color, but pretty much left the rest of my hair alone. She also missed a few spots so now I just have weird, yellow stripes in my hair with a totally brown bottom layer. I had been there for three hours and couldn’t bear to have them fix my hair for a third time, so I left it at that. Not only will I not be going back, but I will be paying to go somewhere else to have my hair fixed rather than let them touch another hair on my head.

Eva did a good job though she told me she will add $ 15 extra for the hair toner, i don’t want to add but it’s like mandatory. beside that my hair looks great.

I had a nice experience here. I am very undeceive and was looking for highlights and a cut. I will say I didn’t have samples of what I wanted and wanted recommendations. I am pleased with the outcome. They were very friendly and as I sat there for 3.5 hours I saw many pleased customers and saw some awesome hair cuts, coloring and styles! Besides the place not being the cleanest and the most trendy I will say I came out with some of the best highlights I have had. The cut is awesome but still hope to grow my hair long again soon. Great people, friendly and they do an amazing job!

First tried this place with the Groupon. I was a skeptical as I’m a freak about my hair and had never heard first-​hand of anyone that tried this place. I must admit it’s aesthetic vibes do not give off a good feeling. It’s small, cluttered, a bit disorganized, and chaotic. HOWEVER, I took a chance and had my hair colored by Eva. I am go glad I did!
Eva took me from a pretty dark brown to blonde (ugh, even thinking back on the fact that I took a chance on this gives me the shivers but it’s done!) and trimmed my short hair cut, one that I was not happy with at the last salon I went to. All in all I was very happy with my results. It was a subtle change, just as I requested. I told her I wanted a more golden tone and not ashy, which she did well. She worked well off my previous haircut when she trimmed it and gave me a great blowout!
I went back for the second time a little over a month ago and she did an even better job this time! I told her I need another trim and also I wanted to do a partial this time (first time was full) and move even lighter. Again, I was nervous, hoping I didn’t have beginner’s luck, but she did a SERIOUSLY awesome job.
I’ve been getting my hair done since I was 14, I’ve had great, I’ve had horrible. This lady gets the job done at a price you just CANNOT beat. I always spend under $ 100 with short hair and either full or partial highlights. Yes, you are sacrificing a graceful ambiance but if you’re willing to forego that for a good cut and color with Eva then give them a call!
UPDATE: I also have Eva thread and color my eyebrows and she does a great job! I have had my eyebrows dyed for many years (henna, hair color, etc.) and I am definitely satisfied with her work. She also waxes and does a good job.

This place is not a nice salon at all. I did not have a good experience here, and regret even trying it out.
I went in with the intention of having my hair cut and colored for the holidays. The two women who were there didn’t really know what they were talking about when it came to the color. They kept speaking back and forth to each other in Spanish and not really including me in the conversation. They made the decision to not do color.
Then came the haircut. I showed the older woman a photo of the cut I usually get, she looked at it for 5 seconds, and then proceeded to cut all of my hair with thinning shears. WHAT. No. My hair is short and not blended at all in the back. It’s almost like I didn’t get a haircut because I have to go get another cut already and it’s been 3 weeks. She didn’t even LOOK like she knew what she was doing.
1 star for still letting me use the groupon, even though they didn’t color my hair.
Do not expect much here. Bad décor, hole in the wall salon.

VERY Inconsistent. I’ve gotten both my best and worst haircuts here… So I unfortunately won’t go back. This one will take over a year to regrow.

I’ve had my hair highlighted and cut there, and my daughter just got Ombré coloring done. Each time we’ve been there, we’ve used a Groupon. They did a reasonably nice job each time.
However, beware, it’s kind of expensive if you get something done beyond the scope of the Groupon. My daughter’s hair wound up costing $ 150 — not the price I’d expect to pay at a salon like L and E — maybe a more nicely decorated salon in Lincoln Park or Bucktown, but not a small, cluttered and kind of dingy salon on the edge of Ravenswood.
Oh, and if you make an appointment, be prepared to wait past your allotted time, as they take walk ins. We waited about 20 minutes past my daughter’s appointment time, and they only talked to us then because I needed to find out the cost and pay for my daughter’s hair before I left. She wound up waiting another 15 minutes before they started on her — 35 minutes after the appointment time.
The people there do seem to be nice — however, with so many other options available, it will be a while before we’re back.

I’m giving two stars because everyone was very nice and this review is quite late.
I went in to get my eyebrows threaded quickly on a whim since it’s close to my house. There was only one person working, which is fine i’m a former stylist and understand how things work. Unfortunately, there was also children running around, which again i’m a former stylist so I understand things happen, but the noise level was through the roof! The children were jumping on things, screaming, etc. I assume it was from boredom and can really blame them.
The threading takes place in a back room, which seemed clean and nice. My HUGE problem with the service is; I came in asking just to follow the original shape just clean up, when I came out I barely had eyebrows. I actually like to have the appearance of having something there and not just two thin lines. I thought I was just being self-​conscious but when I went into work the next day everyone asked what happened. It was a week before my birthday and all I can say is thank god for eyebrow pencils. I wish it was better service, it’s close.

I was a little hesitant at first. I’m used to going to those fancy shmancy salons… and I found L&E on Groupon while desperately searching for a quick hair fix. Can you relate?
Well, Eva did a really nice job on my hair and she is as nice as can be. Also, their prices are AMAZING!!! I got a color touch up, hair cut, blow out and highlights for under $ 100.00! I will be going back and recommend you do too.
Hint– bring a picture in of what you want your hair to look like. That is the best way to get the results you want!

I can’t speak for everyone that works there, so its not fair to say this place completely sucks, but I know from experience that the guy there is HORRIBLE at cutting, coloring, and styling hair.
After he colored, cut, and blowdried my hair, I saw that I had SPOTS of bleach in my hair!!! I have black hair, so these big splotches of white hair were extremely noticeable. I pointed them out to him and told him to fix it, but he made me wait until he was done with another girl and then had me there for another hour for nothing! He couldn’t fix my hair, my ends were split, the color was wrong, and he had such a bitch attitude! Big sign to leave was when he had no idea what an ombré was.
DO NOT GO HERE! Super sketchy, super tiny, no heating/​cooling, no where to put your things, and no customer service! Wish there was an option for no stars.

this place was DISGUSTING — it was incredible dirty, disorganized and there was hair everywhere, including the cash register counter! i set my purse down on the counter and left with a bunch of hair stuck to it! EWWWWWWW!!! when i mentioned that they had hair on their counter, they just shrugged and did nothing. then a week later when i had to return, there was still hair everywhere, including the counter. and each time i was there, they had no ppl in there and at least 2 stylists sitting around doing nothing. how about sweeping??? how does cut hair from a bunch of different ppl find its way all the to the display case for over a week? by NEVER CLEANING UP.
they also DONT KNOW ANYTHING about hair. i made an appointment specifically for a hair glaze or gloss, and when i got there, suddenly no one had even heard of it! this happened 2 other times when my appointment was reschedule for a stylist who could have possible heard of a glaze. i actually had to google hair glaze and show them a few articles on my phone. they rescheduled me twice b/​c each appointment was with someone who didn’t know what it was, and the rest of the salon had never heard of it. PLUS they only have permanent color, which i cant use since im growing my hair out for charity.
they also kept misplacing my appointment. the 3 times i showed up (all for one appointment), and despite having no one in there each time, they were absolutely baffled that i had an appointment, and kept asking me why i was there. really? they had a notebook they wrote appointments down! the last person i had an appointment with kept apologizing saying that the salon owner doesnt like to accommodate customers and didnt know what she was doing. i had a groupon and groupon only refunded me a credit!
also, ive noticed some of the good reviews are written by the ppl who work there! in my experiences (3 attempts for 1 hair cut that never ended up happening), the bad reviews are completely accurate! i suspect they just got a bunch of friends to write positive reviews, b/​c there is NO WAY those reviews are about the same place! i wish i could post pictures, but i took some pics of the filth and hair — it was that shocking and disgusting!

Their groupon requires you to make an appointment that they can’t even get right! Huge waste of time. Jetted here after work in the loop (took me an hour) to get there right on time for my appointment and i walk in and they had no idea why i was there. I had made my appointment only 3 days prior and they managed to write down the wrong name, even though i spelled it for who ever answered the phone, put it on the wrong day, thusday instead of tuesday. They asked me what service i was getting, because they didn’t write that down, probably because their only reservation system is 2 pieces of loose-​leaf paper stapled together and scribed on, and i told her a hair cut and full highlights. Her response was that my orignial appointment time wasn’t even enough time for my service.
So they got my name, date and time wrong and offered nothing in return for messing up so drastically. Luckily i got a refund from groupon, because they have horrible customer service and don’t care to improve. So maybe a decent salon if you can actually get in.

So I can’t say much for getting a haircut here if you have long hair but I can speak for females with short hair… This is not the place for you. I just needed something fast and cheap (I usually go to Mops Beauty Shop… Ask for Khloe if you go. She’s a master at short and long… Well at it all!). Well sorry Khloe!!! Please tell me to stop experimenting! First off clippers were used to shorten my hair on the sides and back. Then the longer part of my hair wasn’t even blended into the part he used clippers on. So basically I had a bowl haircut but uneven. Then I asked for some of the body to be taken out because I have thick hair… He took none out. I have short hair that I like to look soft and feminine. It didn’t look like either of those things…
I had to get my hair fixed elsewhere on short notice because I figured Khloe was booked up… The person that ended up cutting seemed frightened when I took off my hat to show her… That’s how bad it was.
So this place would get five stars for making me waste my whole day getting my hair fixed. However they are getting 1 for the haircut. Ugh.

Came here because was close to home and great reviews. I highly recommend Eva as a hair stylist. She is the only stylist in Chicago I let cut my hair. She does a wonderful job, and Everytime I get a hair cut or style from her I get a ton of compliments. Also she uses Morrocon oil products on my hair and I love them. The salon is affordable to compared to some of the other pricier salons in lakeview. I am Sending my boyfriend here so he can get a good haircut instead of wasting his time at a commercial place like Hair cuttery. I would rather l & e salon have the buisness!

I had a $ 50 groupon for a cut & highlights. I asked for just a couple thick streaks of blonde in my hair and I ended up with thin highlights dispersed throughout my whole head. I have very dark hair and it made me look very tacky.
As for the hair cut, I wanted a slight trim with some layering, and I wanted it shorter in the back than in the front. The young woman who cut my hair literally pulled all my hair to my back and cut a straight line. When I got home, even my boyfriend said that it looked very bad.
They are very nice people, but they seem to have problems communicating with their clients. I wish the other negative reviews weren’t filtered, because they echo my experience almost exactly.
