Kaplan & Sklar, DDS

My wife loves Dr Kaplan. He is very thorough in diagnosis and does excellent work. Great staff!

I’ve always had excellent care from this office over the years. I’ve had the opportunity to be seen by both Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Gloria Khoshnood when Dr. Sklar has been on vacation and they are all great. I trust Dr. Sklar completely. He’s always been caring and patient-​centric. The hygenists are thorough and efficient. My experience here has been totally positive and I always know I am in good hands.

The only reason I am giving two stars rather than one is the quality of the hygienists. They have always been friendly and professional.
Dr. Kaplan is rude and abrupt with with the staff. The receptionists are a joke. I just went in for an appointment and was told that my insurance had changed, and I was no longer able to have a cleaning there. When I tried to get more information, I was rudely interrupted. That made my decision, and I will be happy never to set foot in the practice again.
And it turns out that when I called my insurance provider, I was covered after all. What a waste of time.

Dr. Kaplan was to take care of fractured premolar. He wanted to grind tooth to a peg and put a crown on. There was ½ a tooth. I luckily said no. He did a build on what I had for about an hour and charged $ 550. In the meantime, I found that he could have done a partial crown and kept the tooth intact. This is not permanent and I will have to find a more qualified Dentist to do the partial crown.

What a JOKE! I have recently DUMPED «Sklar, DDS» as a favor to my teeth and my sanity. Everyone of you reading this review DESERVES BETTER than this poor excuse for a dentist office — DO NOT GO THERE, YOU WILL REGRET IT.
I have never dealt with such an unprofessional group of people in my life! The office employs about 5 women to play receptionist, none of which can do their job properly. I’ve dealt with insurance issues, billing issues, scheduling issues, attitude issues…
When I walk into a dental office, I EXPECT a clean, comfortable and professional atmosphere — NONE OF WHICH this office has. Their exam rooms are cluttered and disgusting. The waiting room is depressing!!! A video plays over and over telling stories of how oral cancer with eat your tongue and eventually KILL YOU! The receptionists are rude and basically just there to collect a paycheck. I’ve even been witness to SKLAR screaming at the staff (while I was sitting in the waiting room watching that horrid video) telling them that he’d fire them all if they don’t get their act together. LOVELY!
The only redeeming thing about this location is their Orthodontist, Dr. Khoshnood. She is professional and wonderful (my teeth are very straight because of her.) She needs to relocate from this sad excuse of an office.
So don’t let the location trick you. Downtown office not does equal fabulous, not even ghetto fabulous. It is just ghetto! You have been warned!

I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews, other than to blame the fact that no one likes going to the dentist, and sure, the receptionist and billing staff could be friendlier :)
Anyways, Dr. Sklar was friendly enough. Kindly told me what the problem areas are in a no-​nonsense way, and what I have to look forward to in terms of dental procedures in the upcoming months. He seemed like he cared about one thing: getting my mouth and teeth into better shape, and I appreciated that. I guess some people are looking for more rainbows and lollipops in order to curb the reality of what going to the dentist is all about, but I’m a big girl and don’t need anyone to hold my hand– just fix my teeth!
The hygienist who cleaned my teeth did a great job, and tried carefully to make it as painless of a procedure as possible, which I also greatly appreciated. She also helped me by suggesting some dental care products that would be helpful to me, and offered me some coupons as well.
I enjoyed checking out the scenery and view of the surrounding buildings out the window while they worked on my mouth, too :)
Overall, for a trip to the dentist, I am positive things could be a LOT worse.

I have never experience such unprofessional service. The lady that sits at the reception desk seems to hate her job and patients. After waiting 6 weeks for an appt., she advised me that I arrived 30 minutes late. In fact, I called the day before and confirmed the appt. with her since my coworker had the same problem. The appts are kept in an antiquated binder. In the past, the docs only spend minutes with you then disappear. All of the staff seem to be poorly trained and frustrated. Several coworkers have left and I will too. The lady at the front talks on personal call in front of patients. If you are seeking rude and unprofessional dental care then this is the place for you!!!

I like this dentist. I choose them based on other’s Unilocal reviews. I took a big «gulp» after I read the nasty reviews but I have not had any negative experience. To the contrary — they were very professional and helpful — especially when I was having immense pain in a molar and they saw me on an emergency basis.
The only thing I wish they had was a centralized person to talk to. I work with Dr. Sklar. If he’s out of town, so is his assistant. If she’s not around, then I can’t get pricing at all on dental issues I need to take care of. Besides that, I’m a very satisfied customer.

Horribly incompetent! 5 years later, the work they performed on my husband has to be completely reversed. Our new dentist and periodontist were aghast when they looked inside his mouth and saw how poorly the bridge was constructed. Too bad I can’t give zero stars to these buffoons…

I have been going to this dentist for several years. Everyone there is friendly and I get in and out quickly. Their offices were updated recently; but they’re still not as up-​to-​date aesthetically as I would have expected. Regardless, if you’re looking for a dentist in the east loop area, I would recommend these guys. Also, the hygienist who helps me out is very good. Her name is Sheri and I recommend going to see her.

I have been going to this group of dentists for nearly 2 years, and they are by far the best that I’ve seen.
The hygienist are also wonderful, and my favorite, Sheri, is the all time best! I use to be very nervous whenever I would have a cleaning, with my former dentist’s office, but this group of professionals give comfort a new meaning!
I am highly pleased and satisfied with the work and care that they put into my teeth and gums!

Dr. Sklar very precise and knowledgable. Jessica is a fantastic dental hygienist. They are clear in their observations and recommendations. I highly recommend them.

Dr. Sklar was pleasant, but his staff is unorganized, and the woman in charge of billing is rude and clearly confused about the role of her job. I’ve had no cavities and no major work done in the past. I only come in for cleanings and a check up. The hygeienist was rushing and made the experience painfully unpleasant. She was nice but needs some practice. Dr. Sklar came in for the check-​up and was quick, and pleasant. I have since been dealing with the woman in billing who seems to busy to even take a call. This was my first visit and I won’t be going back. There are plenty of dentists in the loop area with a good staff.

It’s true, you can get an appointment here really quickly. And there’s a reason. I called yesterday and had an 8am appointment this morning.
When I arrived (early, to complete my paperwork), there was no one at the front desk, and the dentist who saw me waiting didn’t say or do anything.
Receptionist was rude and unhelpful. She took a long time to find my appointment.
I should have smelled trouble when I saw the information sheet. It was laid out poorly and thus was confusing. And it didn’t ask «How do you feel about dentists?» I’m ok with dentists, but I appreciate places that care enough to ask new patients.
I waited. And waited. Finally the dentist told me my hygienist was running late and I should wait. I told him I had a meeting to get to and he said «Don’t worry, you’ll still leave at the same time.» All I heard was «We’re willing to let our staff be late to work and rush through medical procedures to make up the time.»
So, I left without a cleaning, but at least I spared myself any further rudeness and unprofessionalism.

I gave them another chance after having a bad experience with this dentist. Dr. Sklar walked in and did not even introduce himself to me, all he said was open your mouth. He looked in my mouth, took off his gloves and said he refused to work on my mouth because I had seen another dentist to correct a root canal since the last time I had been there. Then he told me to find a new dentist and said you can leave now. It was extremely unprofessional.
I can not believe that he was so rude to a client. Most people coming in will have had work done by other dentists so I don’t know what the big deal was. I was outraged and should have known from my first bad experience not to go back.
It may be the only place you can find a an appointment within a month, but there’s a reason for that. Save yourself the time and the $ 12+ dollars it costs to park and don’t go here.

This is the worst and rudest dental practice I have ever been to. When I made my appointment there and gave them my insurance information over the phone, I was told they accepted my insurance only to find out after my appointment they don’t accept it. The lady working at the front desk was extremely rude about the whole thing.
The office itself looked like it hadn’t been updated since the 1960s. The equipment and dental chairs were extremely out of date. The chair was so hard and uncomfortable that my neck and back were killing me when I got up. I was also not impressed with the doctor who saw me.
I had another run in with them about billing, which they continued to harrass me about for 2 years despite legal action saying to lay off. Again, the lady working at the front desk was unbelievably rude and condescending about this situation claiming they never received this legal request. I have proof from my attorney they did. I would chalk her up to the rudest person in the customer service industry I’ve ever encountered.
I can not believe this place is still in business!

I’ve been to Kaplan & Sklar for several years now. I’d have to say, as far as having dental work done goes, my experiences were as good as possible. Dr. Khooshnood has been very good for me. I’ve always been given enough anesthetic, maybe too much, as my pain tolerance is high. The work seemed to be of high quality. They like to wait until you are numb and full of gauze before they get preachy about brushing and flossing. I’m sure that if I were a dentist I’d prefer to converse with patients unable to speak, too. Appointments have generally been pretty easy to get. The whole office staff is friendly and helpful. After years of avoiding the dentist, K&S has me going on a regular basis.

I’ve been coming to Kaplan & Sklar for about a year and a half, and everyone there has always been friendly. I credit this dentist with being the one that finally got me to floss every night, and they managed to do this without being preachy or dramatic.
