I can see I’m not the first to have this problem… A friend bought a gift certificate for a massage and the new owner refuses to honor it. Gift certificate is less than two years old (not that it should matter since gift certificates have no expiration in Illinois). When I asked to speak to the owner on the phone, the woman on the telephone gave me the run-​around only to later reveal that she was in fact the owner. Clearly, these new owners have no scruples and would rather have the negative reviews and bad word of mouth than honor their business obligations and garner new business through a show of good faith. There are too many good places to get a massage in Chicago: I’d stay far away from this one. I’m on my way now to file a complaint with the State Attorney General.

Saw some other reviews of JHB Aroma Spa, so I wanted to make sure my go-​to spa for massages was not going downhill. So here is my follow-​up review.
Booked two appointments in the last month, one with Cindy and one with Helen both for 90 minutes.
The massages were honestly, as good as ever. This place is BY FAR the best place to go for a great massage. Helen was better for deep tissue and Cindy was much better for Swedish. In both cases though, these were not the mechanical massages you get at the chain spas. They do a great job of tailoring the massage to what you need. It just doesn’t seem rehearsed — it’s more spontaneous based on what you need.
I saw some reviews mentioning Groupon coupons — I don’t know about that. I have never seen them advertise Groupon under this ownership group, although the old ownership definitely used Groupon. Regardless, if I want a great massage, I will still come back here whether they accept Groupon or not!
It’s safe, clean and professional and that’s all I want.

SO very upset with this place! My husband got me a $ 100 gift certificate for my birthday (⁶⁄₁₄ in 2014) that states it’s good for 2 years. I just called to make an appointment and HEADS UP, they are under new management and REFUSED to honor that ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR gift certificate that is still good per the certificate which is under the same name as it is currently. The lady informed me that they switched management over a year ago which would be very shortly after my husband bought it for me, so very likely they knew there would be a switch in management when he bought it.
This is pretty low of them. I will definitely never go here, gift certificate or not.

Outstanding service! This was my first time here, had a no-​chip mani/​regular pedi and my eyebrows waxed. The atmosphere was relaxing and calm, the staff was excellent! Personable, friendly, overall great! I will definitely be back in the future!!! Highly recommend!

I came here as it is very close to our house. My husband booked me a 60 min Swedish massage, and it was fantastic! I’ve had many, many massages from top spas as well as hole in the walls. I can say that my masseuse was very professional, knowledgeable, and her massage was exactly what I needed! Everyone from the front desk host to the masseuse were spot on. I will definitely be back!

I’ve now been here twice with my husband for a couple’s massage. Both times we’ve been really happy with the experience. The ambience and staff are really nice and the price can’t be best for the quality!

I have been battling with chronic shoulder and neck pain that causes headaches on a regular basis. I am very particular in the pressure and massage techniques used and I have to yet find a masseuse that understands my need.
My fiancé went to Aroma Spa on his day off this week and told me how amazing it was, suggested that I give it a try. He made an appointment for me with the same masseuse that gave him the amazing massage. I just came home from my 90 minute deep tissue massage and cannot help myself to write this review immediately.
I am not a new customer to Aroma Spa and have been there a few times before this visit. I had different masseuse every time because no one really impressed me enough to know their names.
This visit changed everything. Amy gave me one of the most relaxing massage. She combined what she learned in massage school and her self-​learned knowledge on ancient Chinese pressure point. She took her time to work on every single knots.
I am already planning my next visit and will for sure ask for Amy. Give Aroma Spa a chance since the negative reviews are from over a year ago.

Really amazing couples massage! They gave us champagne and chocolates. They really did a great Swedish massage

Thought I was going in for a nice experience. I spent $ 110 on me and my boyfriend to just get mani pedis. I even asked that she exclude the massage to hopefully get extra treatment elsewhere. Well my bfs nails looked great. Mine still had the pre-​existing color all along the edges and she even painted into my cuticles. I was mortified when she handed me a card to come back! She sabotaged my cuticles!

Mmmmrrrff… Unnngh… Bllllerrrg… Oh, yeah, that felt good.
Maybe my impression is too easily swayed by the fact that I haven’t had a massage in eight, nine, ten (??) years, but I really enjoyed my experience here. I wanted a half-​hour massage, booked it, showed up, got my muscles beaten and stretched, and walked home happy. I’ll be booking again soon.

Had a massage and a facial scheduled today. For the facial, I could have done it on myself. There was so exfoliation, no extractions, and not the most relaxing environment. The woman performing my facial had a coughing fit and left the room for 10 minutes.
For my massage, it was clearly done by a woman who is NOT a certified massage therapist. Not only did she sneeze all over my back, she used cream instead of oil, and did certain things on the right side that she didn’t do on the left side. For example, she massaged the right hand but not the left hand.
While I understand people don’t often represent their credentials, the way that she manipulated my shoulders could have left another person with a terrible injury.
This was a giant waste of time and money. Will not be going back. Especially if I’m being coughed and sneezed all over.

Booked a couples massage for the husband and I for his birthday in dec 2013. Here’s the recap on our experience.
Couples massage lasted an hour and is completed with a complementary steam shower and champagne/​chocs. Lotion and shampoo is also provided.
Massage = We both requested combination of techniques. Swedish, hot stone, Deep tissue and trigger point.
Husband and I was side by side in a small room but when masseuse entered, I was surprised by their swift maneuvering around us without bumping us. Our masseuses were very skilled and applied the massage techniques with the right pressure/​strokes. I’ve been to a lot of massage parlors and not all masseuse are up to par. Location is a little out of the way for us, but the experience would warrant another visit.

Was here for a couples massage with my special lady friend. The store front was very welcoming and nice. We were offered slippers to change into while they stored our shoes in a cubby. I didn’t think this was necessary as we walked 10 feet to the massage room, but hey, they are trying to give that spa feeling.
Only receiving a massage once before, I asked the lady at the desk what the difference was between a couple that were listed. She gave me a very knowledgeable answer about each of the massages and we felt very comfortable making our selection.
The massage was good. It wasn’t very relaxing, it seemed very methodical and pre-​planned, which I’m sure most are, but there wasn’t any smoothness or flow to it. Just went from one technique to the other. Felt like they were just doing their job from memory rather than providing a spa atmosphere. They didn’t speak much english either so any questions I asked had to be repeated and when they wanted to say something to me, I wasn’t sure if the ladies were talking to each other (as they did quietly every 15 minutes to each other) or to me and they had to say it a few times in my ear to make sure I heard and understood.
It also ended very abruptly. Hands off, «times up» and they just quickly walked out. We both looked at each other and said, «ooook».
There was little cups of water waiting for us at the front desk. Again, every one at the front was very nice, all had smiles on their face and were happy to ask if everything went well and if we had any questions.
$ 140 for a one hour couples massage, I dont know if we would pay that much again. We definitely would come back if we find a groupon or coupon that cuts that price down. Not that this was a bad time, it was good, for that same price a much better experience can be had somewhere else.

First I have to say I am probably a customer service nightmare… I am picky! I would rather not have something done than be dissatisfied. With that said, I bought a groupon for my daughter who didn’t want to go alone, so I bought one for myself also. I am so glad I did!
The staff was wonderful, the experience was relaxing, and our mani-​pedi looked phenomenal.
My daughter wanted to get her eyebrows waxed so they squeezed her in. The lady (Kiki I believe) was super! She gave my daughter a «lesson» on how to keep them up at home and showed her how to fill in the areas where her eyebrows are very light in color.

Worst manicure ever. Chipped less than 24 hours later. Multiple chips. Not pleased. The pedicure was great though.
This spa has different rooms for the various services they offer, which is nice. We wen to the nail room and had pedicures. My girl was quick but efficient and then we went to on to the manicure. I was so disappointed. She left the tips of my nails with really rough edges and then began painting the nails. I am guessing that is why my nails chipped while I was sleeping. WTF. I would go back for a pedicure, maybe, but the manicure was not worth any payment at all. Oh well.
One other thing of interest to note. They have signs on the wall of the room telling people to be quiet and stay off of their phones, however, the girl doing my nails (poorly at that) took a call on her cell phone. I couldn’t believe it after the signs instruct us to keep quiet and no phones.
Whatever. That’s my feeling about this place.

We were a few blocks over on Southport driving through the area hoping to find a good walk-​in deal on a massage. Using the Unilocal app on my smartphone I called a few places and of them, Aroma Spa had a few available times which were offered immediately. I think they offered a 60 minute massage with cleanse for about $ 70 dollars. I inquired about their masseuses being licensed and couldn’t quite understand the English spoken by one of their hostesses. She got annoyed with me. I can’t understand her and she’s mad at me. Go figure. I also asked about the strength of the masseuse to make sure they could offer enough pressure during the session. They assured me she could do it.
I ordered up a massage for my cousin as a treat and sent him inside. I walked over to the bar next door (A J Hudson’s Public house) and proceeded to enjoy a therapeutic afternoon courtesy of Stella Artois. It was sunny and they had a few soccer (futbol) games playing. An hour later my cousin appeared tired but refreshed. I believe they gave him a wipe down after his massage. He said it was a nice time but the lady that gave him a massage was a little older and did not have the strength to give him a good kneading. When asked if he would return, he respectfully said no. A very good tip was given despite the lack of a decent massage.
Parking out here is a son of a bitch. Try the side streets but watch the street signs, you can’t park once evening comes.

This is a review for the spa mani/​pedi I purchased through Life Booker! The place itself it nice, small and quiet. The pedicure massage chairs are really good! But I wouldn’t go back!!!
The guy that did my pedicure didn’t really do a good job and they have NO NAIL DRYER! Only a small fan for the hands. My pedicure didn’t dry and got ruined on the way home.
Only reason I’m giving them 2 stars is because he gave me a shoulder massage after my manicure! Other than that… NOT GOING BACK!
