Tom is amazing! He did a fantastic job. It was a big complex retrofit, and made it all come together perfectly.

Tom was absolutely fantastic. He first did an initial walk through to understand what I was looking for (couple TVs mounted, speaker system installation, re-​wiring, etc.). He recommended lower-​priced and higher-​priced options and provided the pros and cons of each. He was great about offering suggestions and making things as high-​tech or simple-​tech as I felt comfortable with. He provided a very detailed invoice shortly thereafter. When we scheduled him to come in, they finished the job earlier than expected and, similar to other posts, the place looked clean afterwards (they cleaned up a lot of boxes, twisty ties, vacuumed their work area, etc.). I didn’t have to sit around and watch him, he was able to work with very minimal questions. He’s done a lot of these types of jobs so I felt absolutely comfortable with everything he was doing. He kind of gets OCD about the way things look so is always looking for the cleanest solution to wiring /​installations, etc. I’m fine with it since my place looks great now.
Looking at other reviews, it looks like people were a bit disappointed with his punctuality? I mean, he was generally punctual, but the guy is busy. I totally get that. He was always courteous and apologetic if he ran late or anything. For anyone looking for A/​V work done, I think it’s totally worth this minor inconvenience for a spectacular finished product.

Extremely disappointing experience with Tom. Called and scheduled an appointment and was initially optimistic based on the phone conversation. Tom said he would come the next day at 8am to look at what needed to be done. 8.10 rolls around — no sign of Tom. I called him and he was pretty nonchalant and said he was busy with «errands» but would be with me within 30 Mins. I was concerned and it didnt sound as though he was planning on calling me to say he was running late which is the courteous thing to do. In the end I waited until 9am and then wrote the whole thing off and left for an appointment. Tom eventually called me at 9.15 saying he was at my apartment — I told him I left already. Everyone runs late from time to Time but the lack of communication is inexcusable. Really disappointing — what a total lack of respect for your customers time.

My wife and I purchased a home in Bucktown that needed significant A/​V work. After doing some Unilocal research I came across Hookup Solutions. I could not be happier. Tom’s professionalism, creativity and follow thru were greatly appreciated. The final product is better than I had imagined.

Unfortunately I can’t give a raving review here. Admittedly I’m a picky client. Tom showed me one of his largest jobs to highlight his skills. The project he did on my house was a big job. The issues started from the beginning. Tom proposed some pretty high tech stuff, but didn’t totally understand how it all worked. We continually had problems with the system he installed. It took quite awhile to fix each issue because he wasn’t familiar enough with the system he installed to address these issues. Furthermore, the up and down side of the system was not clearly explained from the beginning so it seemed that unpleasant surprises continued to happen. Overall, I think Tom had good intention but was just not professional. I had to hire another company to come in and fix the issues.

I called for an estimate and Tom came out within a few days. He was very thorough and gave me an estimate for a few different things I was thinking about doing, including surround sound in my living room and outdoor areas of my home. He also gave me a few different options for brands as well. After considering my options and getting two other estimates (one much higher and the other similar in price but less professional) I set up the appointment and Tom came back out the following week to install everything.
Tom was on time and very professional throughout the whole process. The final cost was almost exactly what he quoted me (actually a few bucks less). Tom and his assistant also took extra time to make the outside wiring as inconspicuous as possible and added a few extra aesthetic items to the indoor setup all within the quoted price. After they finished Tom spent about an hour guiding me through all the different options for my new home theatre setup. Everything sounds and looks great. I highly recommend Hookup Solutions.

Tom was very professional and very prompt with his service. He came in and mounted our TV in a very short period of time and left our place immaculate.

What can I say. I give detailed reviews when I am passionate about something and this warrants some details. So, I emailed them to set up an appointment on a friday, they emailed back the same day. Very nice woman, I was super busy and got back a week later. We set up an appointment and this guy Tom shows up.
Tom is the owner and clearly knows his shit. He is took the time to explain some of the nuances to a dummy like me. I called someone else on Unilocal and never got an estimate. Tom gave it to me within 24 hours. I knew this was the guy. We scheduled the hook up and he was on time. He installed and hung the TV, put in some in ceiling speakers and hooked up the Xbox, Wi, Cable, etc. he did it all. The job took a little longer than expected and I felt bad, I knew he had some pretty big jobs, but he never complained and stressed how important it was to get it done right.
I highly recommend his company, they do fantastic work and truly know their business. Could I perhaps have saved a few bucks with the guy who never called me back? maybe, but I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for, and that’s not to say he was super expensive, I think he was very reasonable. and he did the job right. the first time. Thanks Tom.

My Husband has used Tom in 2 prior condos. My husband is a crtic to the extreme due to his career is sales and customer service. So if my husband likes Tom then he comes with a good recommendation to me. The house we had Tom do this time was our dream house and a cherry was put on top by Hookup Solutions.
I was very impressed with Tom Burns and his overall performance. I am not a techie by any stretch but Tom programmed an RTI remote for me and my husband that is SUPER SIMPLE to operate. My husband is a music guy and I am movie /​music gal. Tom came and met with us to discuss our needs and wants first. He asked a ton of questions so we knew he wasnt going to cookie cutter this system, rather built it for our needs. Tom is a good listener and makes you feel comfortable with your decisions.
Tom had suggested since I take a lot of pictures to install and Apple TV into the system. IT’S THE BEST THING EVER!!!
I don’t know what you’re looking to spend on a home audio/​video system but I felt very comfortable with Tom and his pricing especially with all the customer service that was given.

Tom was incredible.
I didn’t have the biggest job, but it was time consuming — and Tom treated me and the job like it was a major project.
I wanted my living room sound system wired to a new speaker on my balcony. Tom managed to unobtrusively wire the the line through my baseboards and out a miniscule gap of weather stripping on my balcony door (almost floor to cieling glass!). He supplied a solid speaker at a competitive rate as well.
Oh, and while he was there, he also mounted and wired a flat television on our bedroom wall. Again — you hardly knew he cut through drywall. He was clean and elegant about having everything connected without being noticed.
Tom also seems to know everybody who you’d need to complete other projects around the home — painting, electricians. Tom’s a great resource!
All in all, happy to have worked with him — and will surely find a need for him again.

Tom did a great job installing our home theatre system!
We wanted surround sound (uh…by «we» I mean my husband) and in-​ceiling speakers in every room to listen to music, etc. (that is the «me» part). Our condo was prewired for speakers… except for the 2 rooms that just weren’t & needed wires run… a little unforseen addition to the job that Tom took in stride.
It was a lot of work in a short amount of time done really well & neatly. By «neat» I mean things like having the speakers line directly up with the recessed lighting – things people like us don’t think of until it’s already installed & then you say things like «I like it BUT I really wish those speakers lined up…» We really don’t have any «buts.» It’s all very sleek and discreet looking.
He also settled a dispute between my husband and I about the best place to hang our TV in the bedroom. I was the clear winner… you can totally trust his judgment. :-)

Tom Burns not only takes the time to not advise you on what Audio/​Video equipment you need to meet your specific demand, but he installs them and gives suggestions like he is doing the work on his own home. I highly recommend his work and I liked him so much I hired him again to install motorized curtains!!!

Tom Burns is the owner and primary guy you’ll talk to at Hookup Solutions. He did our entire condo. He’s been amazing to work with. He’s reasonably priced, knows more about this stuff than any human should and works with what equipment you may already have /​want. He wired our living room, created our media room, and extended our audio experience onto our balcony beautifully (working with TV’s and some equipment I already had in addition to what I bought from Hookup). I have recommended Hookup to multiple people and those that have gone with them have all thanked me after. You’ll get much better service and unbiased product support than you would with some big franchise like Best Buy or Circuit City. I couldn’t recommend them more.
