History

Established in 1998.

The year was 1998, and the dot-com era was in full swing…

Startups were appearing and growing at an incredible pace. Soon, most would shrink and disappear with similar speed. Meanwhile, Brian Sutherland and the founding Highland team had a technology startup of their own. Their idea was to make technologies and business process automation – then only available to enterprise class companies – accessible and affordable to all types of businesses. They would deliver these services without the bureaucracy, hassle and secret «code» that typically accompanied IT. As it turned out, this was an idea with real staying power.

Meet the Business Owner

Brian S.

Business Owner

When Brian founded Highland Solutions in 1998, he set out to do what few IT companies had (and few do today): to make enterprise quality IT solutions understandable, accessible and affordable. Today, he leads the Highland team with those same objectives in mind.

Mr. Sutherland has 33 years’ experience ranging from startup to enterprise. He was an early technology evangelist to engineering consulting services. Within the American electric utility industry he led initiatives to transform them from the age of paper into the digital age working directly with global architect and engineering firms Impell, Bechtel and Sargent and Lundy. Mr. Sutherland’s technical leadership around new engineering and computer automation contributed to companies being successfully capitalized such as Impell by Combustion Engineering and then by ABB.

Mr. Sutherland holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from California Polytechnic University.
