This is my go-to when I need a bamboo plant. I’m half Chinese and I was told by my mom and grandma that giving someone a bamboo plant when they’re having a change in circumstance, for example, a move or an injury, is good luck. I don’t know how true this is but it sounds like a great gesture to me. Anyways, my mother in law is recovering from surgery in Texas and I wanted to send her one. I went online and the ones I found for delivery were puny and over priced. I went on into Hiep Loi. They really have a great selection for great prices. I picked out a pot, some rocks and a big plant. The old guy behind the counter didn’t like the one I picked and insisted he had a healthier one in the bottom of the container. He did! He even gave me some suggestions on how to ship it. The staff is always super helpful and friendly. Go. Now. Buy bamboo.

Has Ba Gua mirrors, take that Toguri! Though it’s a little darker and scarier then Toguri but it has the same amount of cool stuff. At least that’s what I thought until… I don’t know what happened! I went in trying to sell a smokeless ashtray but came out with this creature called a Mogwai and a list of rules. It later named itself Gizmo. Yes, it can speak and then the night got even weirder! Apparently, it doesn’t like water but I see it as a cash crop because it multiplied! I could make a fortune selling them off! It that wasn’t crazy enough, I won’t even tell you what happened after I gave them all a little snack later on in the night. All hell broke loose! It just goes to show you kids, rules are made to be followed!

I walk past this place all the time when I go to Argyle for phở, but never thought twice about going in. But I recently purchased a shower curtain with a simple bamboo print on it and wanted to get a small bamboo plant for our bathroom. A bamboo themed bathroom — chic or corny? Knowing my sense of style, probably the latter, but that’s ok. I’ll deal with the consequences later. The store has a variety of bamboo plants, some are simple and others are ornate. Prices are $ 3 and up, depending on the style of bamboo. I decided to purchase the $ 13 plant, with 3 stalks in a colorful vase. It’s a gift shop, so they also have Buddha figurines, as well as Jesus and Mary! I should tell my parents about this place, since their home is adorned with all three figures(go figure). They have chopsticks, too, and I’ll be back to purchase a few pairs for my home. I have a stash of disposable chopsticks, but I’m ready for«real» ones. Real ones!

Asian gift shop located in the heart of Argyle. If you need figurines of Japanese lucky cats, Chinese fishermen, or the like, you can find them here. They have a bunch of cute decorations and red envelopes for Lunar New Year too.
