Some of the stock is interesting — but the store is impossible to navigate, with duplicate categories spread thruout the shop. I guess that’s to get you looking at everything else and perhaps make an impulse buy — but when I go to the grocery for tomatoes I don’t want to have to dig thru the shampo aisle or the ice cream freezer! And the staff acts as if you’re a complete idiot, no matter what you request. I’m stunned that some Unilocalers mentioned the helpfulness of the staff — guess I’ve never been blessed with that one sales clerk who cares.
I go here only because I live nearby, and occasionally must rush in for a gift.

Stepping into Greer is like taking a tiny vacation.
Even when I don’t need anything there, stopping by on my lunch break always brightens my day. (And I usually end up buying something I didn’t even know I wanted!)
Their collection of cards, papers and gifts is thoughtfully curated, artfully displayed, and unique among the other card/​paper shops in town.
Also, the last time I was there, I couldn’t find something to complete a particular project I was working on. The woman working in the shop came up with some other ideas, and even wrote down another shop in town where I may be able to find the type of banner I was looking for. That whole «if-you-can’t-get-it-Macy’s-get-it-at-Gimbel’s» routine gets me every time.
Greer is lovely. Go there!

I LOVE THIS SHOP.
I tend to bore easily at stationary stores but this one has so many knick knacks and beautiful things, even after sauntering through the entire store I kept coming back around for double-​takes! Recently I dropped into Paper Source in River North thinking it would have the same aesthetic as this shop – definitely NOT the case. This place is so much better. It has character, beautiful design, and some sort of old-​world beauty I can’t particularly put my finger on. Love it! I wish I could tell my family and friends to come here to buy me all of mygifts!

Greer is exceptional! I had read all of the reviews and was eager to go. Arrived in a Sunday and they weren’t open. Undeterred, I went back Monday morning when they opened and as soon as I walked in, I was in heaven. I have always loved card/​paper stores and often dreamed that I’d own one some day. If I do … it would be just like Greer and I told the owner so. She has exquisite taste and staff Alexa knew he inventory inside out and made excellent suggestions. I really enjoyed he experience and ended up with a great gift for a graduation, beautifully wrapped up in royal blue tissue and boxes for me. When I went to the post office to mail it, I found a little gift for me too — something I’d been eyeing in the dirt but didn’t purchase. These ladies were so lovely. I called to express my thanks and promised to return. And I will … over and over. And I’ll send or bring everyone I know. The place is just that special!!!

I love this little stationary shop! I always stop in here for some unique greeting cards or stationary supplies. They have a great selection of cards and lots of cute little stationary supplies, books, trinkets, etc. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and I feel good supporting a local business. I will be stopping in soon to grab a card for a friend’s wedding shower, and I’m looking forward to checking out some of their new stuff!

My mother stopped in recently as she was helping me to find proper cardstock for my wedding invitations. I needed stock that was 280g (heavy), and so she was helping me track down what I was looking for. I live in California, so this was really helpful for her to do for me. Gosh, I love her.
Anyway, Chaundra (owner) and Deborah (manager) gave my mom all kinds of information that helped us out majorly. They even offered to give me a call and explain that 280g translated to about 100 lbs. They let me ask questions and were so very willing to spend all the time that was needed with me on the phone to ensure I understood what I was looking for. They were so darn friendly and accommodating.
They ended up giving my mom a few samples of what I needed for my invitations, and my mom forwarded everything to me in the mail.
Chaundra and Deborah hand wrote me a little note that explained everything to me again which was just a very personalized and sweet gesture. They left me the shops’ contact information and everything I needed to place my order. They gave me a few samples as well.
This store is run by two very lovely, helpful ladies and they were nothing but generous and kind towards my mother and I. Next time I visit Chicago I will have to stop by the shop and pick up some more supplies.

One of my favorite places in all of the city of Chicago! The selection available is pretty big & it’s not just stationary & cards. It’s this paper loving girl’s dream! I love that they stock not only big names, like Kate Spade but they support the local designers as well.
The place is styled beautifully & I could spend hours there if it weren’t weird of me to. Everyone has always been so kind whenever I stop in & I’d love to hug them all. I love their objective of kindness. It’s definitely something that speaks to me on every level.

I recently got into snail mail, and since Greer was the top-​rated store of its kind in Chicago on Unilocal,I visited with high expectations and was rather underwhelmed. I was looking for everyday snail mail correspondence type things, perhaps a stationery pack with an assortment of different cards (so the people receiving my mail don’t get bored with the same paper over and over). I was looking for ways to decorate an envelope, perhaps washi tape or packs of pretty stickers, either sophisticated or not. I was looking for a large selection of unique or random cards to send to friends and a pen with pretty-​colored ink to write a quick «thinking of you.» I did not find these things. That being said, it’s not a bad store if you have other expectations:
There are many packs of invitations and thank you cards, and so the selection would be great for someone having a wedding or baby shower. I think I’d only return for those kinds of items, if I were writing invitations to a party or something, and didn’t mind splurging. The service and staff were nice and not pushy. There is a section in the back with a rainbow assortment of different-​colored plain envelopes if you want to create something more personalized, and there is a small hallway with some standard individual greeting cards. For all the rave reviews, though, I thought there’d be much more to look at – I’m just not sure what makes it much different from Papyrus (except for the fact that it’s nicer to support small businesses).

Was looking for a stationary store with a wide variety of styles when the general stores in Lincoln Square weren’t cutting it. Greer exceeded my expectations. Kudos to Alexa, who was super knowledgeable and helped me pick out a nice selection of stuff to write with and on. Never knew I would care this much about pens and paper. Even if it’s just to look around and touch everything (which I highly recommend), check this place out.

The best and most intimate stationery store in Chicago. It always brightens my day to stop in. This is a great place for a hostess gift.

Hands down, the absolute best!
I spent four months in Chicago last fall while learning to walk again following a spinal cord injury. As my time there drew to a close, I started panicking about what types of thank you cards to give the therapists, nurses, and doctors who had helped me during that incredibly vulnerable time. What card from Walgreens really captures that?!
So I went online and ordered from Greer. I got a lovely email confirming some aspects of the order and I mentioned why I was so excited to get the cards.
Amazingly, the next day, a small box appeared at the Ronald McDonald House where I had been staying. Deborah from Greer had DROPPED OFF THE CARDS to me so that I could write them in time to give to my medical team. It had been the week before Christmas and no doubt she had a million other things to do. I was floored with the customer service and the personal touch.
The cards were a hit.
I left Chicago a few days later and returned to my life in Europe. Now, as I am visiting family in California, I am wishing I was closer to Chicago so I could go into the Greer store. Online shopping will have to suffice!
Greer is legit. Go there.

Fell in love with this store! Didn’t have a ton of time to shop as I was with a group, but would have checked out every nook and cranny if I could. I bought two prints, and a card. Tons of unique items, high quality cards, prints, stationary, books. Everything is displayed beautifully! If you are in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, make this a must-​stop, you will not be disappointed!

I patronize a ton of stationery stores for papers and pens and cards as I try to continue writing letters and such to friends and family. I walked into Greer upon recommendation, and I did not leave disappointed. A goodly-​sized store, comfortable to walk around in, and so much goodness! Postcards, cards, papers, journals… just a great environment.
Also, on a personal note, they forgot to put the envelopes I had bought in my bag (I bought a ton of stuff). I get a DM on twitter asking me where to send it. How many places do you know send you stuff that you accidentally left in the store?

It’s always fun to browse through here. There’s a great selection of beautiful stationary, cards, paper, and other paper-​related gifts. I’ve bought some gorgeous cards here. I wrote my wedding vows on a blue Vellum of Crown Mill correspondence card that I purchased here. I held the card up on the altar at my wedding while I read the vows, so you can tell I was confident in how nice the card looked! Prices aren’t cheap, but if you’re going through the effort of writing a card and sending it through the mail, it’s worth it to write your sentiments on nice paper.

Absolutely the best paper store in all of Chicago. Not cheap by any means, but if you still believe in the lost art of the thank you note (or really any handwritten correspondence) then this is the store for you.
No racks of shi-​shi wedding crap you are neither interested in nor attracted to. No rude salespeople. No cookie-​cutter crane stationary you could have ordered online for ¹⁄₃ less. Just a wonderfully curated, although somewhat small, collection of the cutest cards, stationary gifts, wrapping paper and interesting curios you’ll find in the city.

Greer is one of my all time favorite places in Chicago. Chandra has excellent taste in paper goods and I always walk out with a lot of stuff. For the past few years, I have gone to Greer to buy tons of Christmas presents. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to support a small business over generic stuff from Target? I recommend going into Greer with a list of who you want to buy something for and for what occasion because it is easy to get overwhelmed with all the amazing options! It’s incredible how much selection there is. Greer is the perfect place to buy gifts and especially packs of thank you cards.
