Fuga Salon & Spa

Not sure how this place has 4 stars. I came here based on its Unilocal reviews and am sorely disappointed. If you’re into cleanliness and hygiene steer clear! If you’re into a manicure where they stay inside the lines and give you an even, full coat of polish, that is smooth around the edges and professional, also steer clear!
I went this afternoon for a nonchip /​gel manicure. Before I even got my manicure I was in the waiting area, which Fuga does not clean throughout the day. There were clods of hair clumped around the floor, and even 15 minutes after my appointment time, when the nail tech finally greeted me and took me back, the clods of hair were still floating around the front area. I had to step around them as I made my way back to the nail area.
The light was somewhat dim in the nail area, but as the tech did my manicure and asked me to put my hand in the uv light box, I was grossed out by the little hairs and dirt all over the outside of it. As the nail tech would go outside the lines of my nails, she would use her own nails to scrape around the edges of my nails, rather than an orange stick or nail tool to clean up the excess polish in a hygienic fashion. When the manicure was over and I came back out into the light, I noticed a gross manicure with waves and globs in some areas and translucent lack of coverage in other areas, not to mention nail polish smeared onto my cuticles and skin. Poor «service» and «quality» for $ 40. The staff was kind and polite, but the services were disappointing. I would not come here even if it were free. Maybe their specialty is hair, and they just aren’t good at nails. Not sure, as I have never had my hair done here, and based on the clumps of wet hair of earlier clients in the hair wash sinks, I never intend to.
Additionally, one of the things that drew me to this spa was the espresso drinks other Unilocalers said they offer. They did offer me espresso, but I cannot imagine wanting to drink it in an environment where hair is floating around so freely, and the products for sale are dusty. This place needs a deep clean. I am also curious if the nail tech is even licensed or has been to beauty school, because this was not a professional manicure. I could have done better myself.
Also, some of the music playing was great, but other songs were about girls who are *itches, repeated over and over. Not exactly a relaxing salon/​spa experience.
Finally, I marked the price as moderate, but given the value for the price it is really expensive. You pay $ 40 for disappointment and a manicure that needs to be redone. By the time I pay another salon to remove this nonchip/​gel polish and do another mani, the whole process will cost me far more than $ 40, not to mention my time, which I consider priceless.

I’ve been seeing Lisa at Fuga for over 5 years, I believe, and I couldn’t be happier with her and Fuga itself. I’ve also recently seen their aesthetician for a facial and brow wax, as well as one of their massage therapists, and everyone did such a great job. I highly recommend Fuga for any of your salon or beauty needs. Thanks for being great guys!
Also — I’ve gotten my nails done here and the manicurist was also very good! Quality manicure & pedicure while I wait for my hair to process, what’s better than that?!

It has been a while since I went to Fuga for a Brazilian wax. I had followed my previous waxer and she sadly moved. So I opted to try Fuga again.
Same great salon and thrilled they started carrying Yonka again!
WOW! Emilia rocks it! She made a very awkward experience tolerable and was not only effective, but this was one of the easier and least painful Brazilian waxes I have ever had!
I went for broke and also asked for a leg wax and an eyebrow wax. I mentioned to Emilia, I would probably be coming to Fuga more often since I developed a nickel allergy and can’t do standard leg razors any more, lest my allergy develops into dermatitis on my legs and I have to endure weeks/​months of topical Clindamycin. Here’s where I found out Emilia was also honest. When I told her that, she replied, «I don’t want to lose you as a client, but have you looked into the nickel free blades?» Wow! Super honest. I replied I had, but many had trace amounts of nickel. I had also looked into Surgicream, but I didn’t like the time it took or the smell. When I shared that with Emilia, she responded, «Why put any more chemicals into your body than you have to? And, you know what? Waxing is exfoliating.»
Her eyebrow was was not only great, but she gave an amazing head rub afterwards.
The only sucky thing is no tipping on a credit card. :sigh:

I have been to Fuga twice and had great experiences both times. Brittany did a lovely job of coloring and cutting my hair. She was friendly and thorough and did such a great job that I have received daily compliments on how great my hair looks.
Graciela waxed my brows and was fantastic as well. She showed me around their Spa rooms and suggested parties for me and my friends, without coming across as a sales person.
I totally recommend this salon/​spa. Everyone I have encountered there is professional and extremely friendly!

I walked into Fuga a desperate woman – with orange-​ish hair. But Jaime made it all better! An inexperienced stylist at another salon had given me a «base bump» after applying my normal highlights and the result was an other-​wordly, orange-​ish glow, which looked particularly awful with my skintone.
I went to Fuga to ask them whether it could be fixed, and Jaime was willing to help. He told me that the stylists at Fuga typically consult with each other on the best approach in complex cases – and the results speak for themselves. After a few short hours – and a very reasonable price – the glow was gone, and I had lovely brown lowlights with light blond highlights. I almost cried with gratitude. Loved Jaime and the collaborative atmosphere of the salon. No doubt I’ll be back!

I trust no one but Wintre with my hair. I have think, coarse hair with a colicky wave in the back and lifeless in the front and she is the only stylist who has ever been able to give me a cut that looks good both styled and left to air-​dry (which I do often because I’m lazy). She is also phenomenal with color. I once had her fix a purple mistake and she got it looking great without any damage. Plus, her shampoo-​head massage is better than going to a masseuse.

Wintre is the best hair stylist I have ever seen. I have thick, really long, naturally wavy (i.e. frizzy) hair, and she is somehow able to execute what I can only describe as magic on my mop. Oh, and then there’s my quick-​growing brownish gray roots that she blends so that I don’t have to see her every month (although I would, happily). I could go on and on forever about Wintre, but just BELIEVE ME. Wintre is amazing. See no one else here!

Nadine is wonderful! I really enjoy this salon. Not only is it in my neighborhood but every time I’ve gone, everyone is friendly and professional. I have not had the opportunity to try any of the spa treatments but the hair services I’ve had, have been spot on.

Just got back from my first visit at this salon — it was great! Lisa was my stylist and she’s awesome! Love my cut and especially the way she styled it. Girl can work a round brush like no other. I live close to the salon (never knew it was there before!) so I’ll be back for sure. Thanks Lisa.

I’ve wanted to change my naturally dark hair to blonde for 10 years, but I’ve never had the nerve… I finally took the plunge and am so grateful I sat in Nadine’s chair. She took her time and the results are stunning.

OK… To say i was disappointed is putting it mildly! a friend and I have been dying to go to Fuga since they opened being right in the neighborhood. We finally SCHEDULED appointments a month in advance to have a birthday spa day. We were scheduled for facials and pedicures. Upon entering they informed us that they were having computer problems and didnt have us scheduled. They treated us as if we were walk in’s, saying they COULD MAYBE get us in for nails but not facials! WHY WOULD WE STAY FOR PEDICURES FOR 45 $ WHEN WE COULD GO DOWN THE STREET FOR HALF THE PRICE. They didnt even offer an apology or compensation!
NOT GOOD BUSINESS FOR THE PRICES THEY CHARGE!!!
NO DESIRE TO EVER RETURN!

I sometimes cringe writing about a true gem because I’m afraid it will be that much harder to get an appointment… but I just learned that Thomas Wiley is a new massage therapist at Fuga! I’m so excited because this is so much closer to my work so I can grab a massage on my way out of the city since we now live in the suburbs. I’ve easily been to 20 different massage therapists in my lifetime and Thomas is by far the best. He is worth every penny and he will truly get to know your body and your needs (in a non-​creepy way). I’m also excited to try this place for a haircut before or after my visit with Thomas! Could not be more excited. I hope the other services here are just as good!

This review is loooong overdue: My love affair for this salon started over a year ago when I was looking for a place to get a couple of facials before my wedding. I was having some skin issues and the Michigan ave location was referred to me by an excellent previous esthetician.
I went and I have to say that I honestly had a result from DAY 1. I had been going to the derms office, and another salon (regularly) for over a year and had no significant improvement. Well I had the pumpkin facial and started using the comfort zone active pureness cleanser (yep JUST a cleanser) and then the moisturizer added later and it made a difference.
What really sold me on the place was not just the products but the personal customer service. A couple of days before the wedding I had my last facial scheduled and the esthetician got sick, of course I was upset but they offered to have me seen at the southport location on a sunday and with a discount (given the situation).
It was fabulous and I have seen Brooke since then. I have also had other services such as a haircut, blowout, color (another long story but basically if you ever want a non-​conventional color –I had pink, they use a toner and it lasted for over 3 months!!!) and mani/​pedis. Basically I have always been happy with the services and love going into a place where they know me by name and exactly what products I use.
I always purchased my comfort zone products from there and they would hold them for me if they were low in stock or let me know if the other location had them.
The owner was also awesome and made sure they used all the latest hair and skin techniques.
I was devastated when I was moved out of state a couple of months ago, and couldn’t find a salon that carried or used comfort zone and Brooke was amazing and found a salon for me!
I really recommend this place for everyone and especially if you love the euro/​italian atmosphere like I do. :-)

I had a Brazilian wax here. When I went to pay and mentioned my Groupon, I was informed the Groupon was only valid with a certain Esthetician. This information, of course, was never mentioned to me prior but when I stated this I was told it was «in the fine print» on the Groupon. Wow. So not only am I out $ 65 for the Groupon which I will never use, I had to pay full price for the service in person. Putting sneaky info like that in your ‘fine print’ is bad business and a sure way to ensure your clients won’t ever come back.

I wanted something new from my boring shoulder length cut so I went and got a bob and bangs bargain haircut, and when i came home my sister said i look like beverly cleary’s ramona. I knew it was a really bad cut when i went to work and no one commented on my very obvious haircut. So, about a week later I went to get it fixed at Fuga with Nadine (I think that was her name), i asked to keep the length but try to help it. she was able to stylize it to make it look like an adult more-​sophisticated look and suddenly everyone at work was mentioning my haircut because they finally had something good to say about it.

Brooke is great for waxing! I definitely recommend, but I’ve tried calling this location on several occasions in the last couple weeks and every single time I get the voicemail. And yes, I am calling during business hours. I leave a message and NEVER get a response back. I’m moving on. It sucks because I really like Brooke, but I’m sick and tired of being ignored! If you can get through, good for you. I’m not sure what the hell is going on there, but I’m tired of talking to a machine and getting no response.

As someone that is pretty neurotic about her hair, I was nervous as a first time customer. I was planning on getting about 5 or so inches of my hair cut off because I wanted a change. I called the salon before showing up and after reading some of the other great reviews here, and I asked some questions of the receptionist. First, let me say that I don’t remember the person to whom I spoke on the phone, but she was wonderfully helpful and polite and informative.
I ended up making an appointment with Nadine, and she was an absolute PERFECT fit for me. She gave me honest feedback when I showed her the picture that I wanted to emulate, and she explained exactly what she was doing in great detail while also made great general conversation. She also gave me one of the best shampoos and head massages EVER! I haven’t left a salon that happy in many years, and I have already received quite a few compliments on my new haircut. Thanks Nadine!

I live right down the street from Fuga, so I decided to check it out a couple of months ago. I called last minute and they took me immediately. The first time I went Wintre cut my hair. She was great and did exactly what I wanted. I called yesterday to try and get an appointment for a cut with Wintre, but was informed she only works Saturdays and Sundays. They set me up with Eliora, instead. She did an AMAZING job. She did what I asked, only better (yes, I realize that sounds crazy). I like having short bangs, but have trouble explaining to stylists exactly what I want– she gave me short, choppy bangs like I asked, but they turned out better than I could have expected.
Not only is the service great at Fuga, the ambiance is very nice as well. The receptionists are always friendly and attentive. The prices are great, too, and they have deals on weekdays for various services. I will definitely continue to go to Fuga in the future!

I’ve been to Fuga on Southport many, many times over the last 7 years… I’ve had consistently great service… I love how I look after I’ve had my hair done here… !! Received many compliments every time. Tony and his stylists are so good and professional always…
I love the products they use for my hair… there’s never any buildup like you get with other brands, and my hair is so soft and silk. I keep touching it all the time after I’ve been to Fuga! I’ve also had my makeup, waxing and hair done here for special occasions and they get it right every single time…
