Forest Glen Animal Hospital is a full-​service veterinary medical facility that was started in 1963 and has continued to be a neighborhood favorite. The professional and courteous staff at Forest Glen Animal Hospital seeks to provide the best possible medical care, surgical care and dental care for their highly valued patients.

History

Established in 1963.

Forest Glen Animal Hospital was founded in 1963 by Dr. Kenneth Perry and was purchased by Dr. Andrew Orals in 2008. To best meet all the needs of our pets and their parents, we relocated in 2013 to a 5,000 square-​foot state-​of-​the-​art animal hospital with five examination rooms, spacious boarding areas, a dental suite, full treatment area and ample, accessible parking.

We are a family-​owned veterinary practice committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative health care and health-​related educational opportunities for our clients. Forest Glen Animal Hospital strives to offer excellence in veterinary care to Chicago and surrounding areas.

Dr. Orals O.

Business Owner

Dr. Andrew Orals joined Forest Glen Animal Hospital in 2005 and purchased the hospital in 2008. His love for animals and interest in helping them stretches back to his earliest recollections. «As long as I can remember, I wanted to become a veterinarian,» he says. «I was always trying to save every little animal I came across, from birds to rabbits and squirrels.» An anatomy class in high school solidified his determination.

A native of Arlington Heights, IL, Dr. Orals attended Millikin University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Dentistry, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery are his professional interests. For Dr. Orals, the relationship he develops with the pets he cares for and their families is the most rewarding aspect of veterinary medicine.

Having an old yorkie as a pet, she started having heavy panting episodes starting from this morning. I called the hospital and asked whether they would have time for Mimi for an emergency check-​up. Thankfully, the whole staff was more than helpful and took time and consideration in taking care of Mimi. My sister Christine Chung was also here with me.
I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone.

Feeling like the worst cat mom of the year, I had to run Spock (my cat) in for immediate care because I accidentally slammed his tail in the door in a rush to leave for work. Spock is my cat child and I felt like a failure. I was so sad, but Dr. Golden was amazing! The entire staff was. Spock is not the best looking cat to most cat owners used to looking at shelter rescues. Spock is a Cornish Rex, and he’s a fatty at 14 lbs. It didn’t matter to the staff, they kept saying he was a good-​looking cat, and for those who remembered he was a male, commented on how handsome he is. Honestly, it only made my heart break because of what happened.
Spock’s care wasn’t cheap, and the Vet tech told me about Care Credit, which I didn’t know you could use for pets! I’m like, «What? My Optometrist’s office takes that!» I signed up with my smart phone right away and I now have 6 months to pay off his hefty bill. That’s gonna get me through the holidays! A small 4% service charge from the vet is included for using the card at their office. I was all too happy to pay for it. Small price for feeling like such a jerk myself. Did I happen to mention how amazing everyone is here? Especially with their newly remodeled office, the service remains old-​school where every pet parent feels respected; and every pet is special and unique.
Spock’s stitches were done same day and I was able to have him home and resting as comfortably as possible in less than 12 hours. When I picked him up, I was given care instructions, which almost went through one ear and out the other due to my stress. The tech smiled and seemed to know, and had a printout of everything we went over for me to take home. Spock’s stitches look great and aside from dealing with the Victorian collar, his behavior is about the same for a kitty that I know still feels the wound. Really, I trust this office with my baby, and you should not have any worries bringing your pet here. They’re gonna take care of your best friend for you.

I have a 3 year old pit/​Basenji mix. He got a tick and Dr Flugee was very nice and helpful. I will be taking Jax back to her for his check ups going forward, for sure.

We have been taking our dog here for a few years and LOVE Dr. Golden. She is so sweet and gentle with our boy. We’ve had minor surgery, teeth cleanings, check ups, and injured toe nails and she has been great through all of it. The reception and techs are all great as well. We also love that we can call in the morning and almost always get in the same day! And we also don’t feel like they pressure us into anything and try to keep a good budget for us!

My first and only visit to Forest Glen was during an emergency. My best doggy friend of 14 years, Yogi, was having major diabetes complications. I unfortunately had to put him to sleep. I was heartbroken because I had no idea I’d be losing my angel that day. Throughout our entire ordeal, the vet was supportive and compassionate. She outlined my options and allowed me to make the decision myself. Once the decision was made, she waited until I was ready and gave me time to say goodbye.
I am forever grateful for the Forest Glen Animal Hospital staff. Deciding to put Yogi to sleep was the hardest decision of my life and the worst thing that has ever happened to me. All of the staff members that I encountered treated me with respect and understanding. Their support helped me through.

The entire staff at Forest Glen Animal Hospital is a gift to pet owners in this community. I was incredibly grateful for the care they provided my sweet cat, Stitch, on his last day with us, not to mention the grace with which they spoke to my husband and I on the worst day of our lives. We had never dealt with something so devastating, but the incredible sensitivity of everyone we interacted with made the experience as bearable as it could be.
It can be difficult to find other people who truly understand and value the deep and unparalleled love between a pet and their person, but we really felt we found it at Forest Glen AH. We can’t thank them enough for guiding us through our grief with such tenderness and warmth.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. The staff is always extremely nice and welcoming. On a handful of occasions, they have fit us in for same-​day appointments on just a couple hours’ notice.
Every doctor here is thorough, helpful and patient. They always ask questions not only about the ailment but about my dogs’ lifestyle and environment, and offer advice for at-​home treatment based on those factors. They always put the dogs’ comfort and safety first.
I’ve moved twice since first bringing my dogs to here, and both times there have been vets that were closer and much more convenient, but making the trip to Forest Glen is worth it.

Really can’t say anything but nice things about these people. Every time I walk in, I feel welcomed. Both vets I have seen have been a pleasure.
Pretty easy to make an appointment over the phone.
Never have to wait more than a few minutes to see the vet after I arrive.
We were previously going to VCA and pricing seems similar. Forest Glen’s staff seems friendlier and their space is new and clean. Definitely found our new vet.

Dr. Orals is such a great vet. He really cares for animals and the parents :) he prefers the «one step at a time» method which is much nicer on my wallet, if one treatment doesn’t work then you move onto another vs a ton of work all at once. Staff are all very nice and helpful. They have a new office which is very clean and beautiful, it’s right across the side street from old location.

My 5 year old Beagle/​Lab (Buddy) loves the people at the hospital when I had first adopted him I read a article that visits for treats and weight in’s was a great way to avoid the inevitable fear of the veterinarian
So every time we walk/​run by we stop for treats it’s come to the point that he heads to vet all on his own for a treat and he really works the ladies at the desk for treats. Thanks for putting up with us!

Luckily I don’t need to go here that often because my dog is pretty healthy. However, the times I have been there, all the vets have been great. Dr. Orals is so nice and empathetic of your pet’s needs. I also don’t feel like I am being ripped off when I take my dog to the vet. Some of the conditions my dog has been treated for are ear infections and firework anxiety. I have always been able to make prompt appointments too.
This place will continue to be my family’s veterinarians.

This was the worst vet experience I have ever encountered being a pet owner for over 30 years! Waited over an hour for first puppy exam with an appointment. Vet and staff have worst people skills ever! Never gave puppy a full exam never asked questions or anything. The puppy was very sick. Would highly NOT recommend to my worst enemy or ever return even if it was an emergency. Puppy would not be living if I did not get a second opinion from the most phenomenal and professional vet at heal on Irving and Rockwell. A little more expensive but life is worth it for your best friend.

Can’t say enough good things about these folks! Both Dr Orals and Dr Dodin are fantastic, and the staff is knowledgeable and nice.
When we got our shelter puppy, we found the reviews on here very helpful. After 4 months working with them to get our little guy healthy, I couldn’t agree more with what everyone has said. They were very helpful and patient with all our ‘new parent’ and ‘sick baby’ questions, and their prices are fair.
Overall, we just couldn’t be happier with this practice. An office full of pet lovers and it shows.

I brought sick cat there. They were caring and also helpful with giving me some medicine that had donated since I was unemployed and didn’t have much money. They were very patient with me teaching me how to care for my very ill cat. They even sent a condolence card when my cat finally died. It had a personal note from everyone I had worked with for six months trying to extend my cat’s life. The compassion from everyone helped me and my cat tremendously.

We recently brought Baby The Cat to Forest Glen, as we had been other vets in the area who had disappointed us. We took Baby The Cat in to see Dr. Dodin. We found a caring and professional environment, and above all, a comfortable atmosphere for Baby. If you care about your pet as we do, we encourage you to try Forest Glen. You will also find they are very fairly priced.

Dr. Dodin is the best vet in the city of Chicago and maybe the world. Dr. Orals is a close second. The staff is top notch and even calls you to make sure your pet is feeling better after visits. Everyone I have referred there has found it way better than their previous vets.

We’ve been bringing my dog here since we got her as a puppy. Shes 13 now and since I was too young to remember our earlier visits here I can talk about what I know now and Dr. Orals is great. I’m really happy with the service he has provided us from bronchitis to my dogs arthritis acting up to keeping track of her lumps every visit. He’s honest and compassionate, gentle and very polite. Just the way he talks you can tell he really cares. We are so lucky to live so close to here and to have Dr Orals and his great staff. Thank you!

I would just like to echo all the positive comments that came before mine. Dr. Orals and his staff are truly knowledgeable, caring, and very attentive.
Their prices are very affordable too. I have an elderly dog that I adopted almost a year ago now. He has heart problems and is on a daily med regimen so cost is very important to me. I have had to have hard discussions about what lengths I want to go through to keep my little guy around and Dr. Orals has really helped me to get to a place where I am comfortable. He respects my decisions and has really helped make my life and my dog’s life a whole lot happier! He is a kind and gentle soul.
I go there about once a month and have had to see other vets that fill in for him and they have all been wonderful as well. I feel this office shares in their committment to quality care not only to the animals but to their owners as well.

I am glad to be the first person to review this place. Dr. Orals and the staff here are fantastic. I have done animal rescue and have had some foster dogs with medical issues. They have always been so accommodating and helpful making sure I could get in when there was a problem, never rushing me or making me feel bad for calling with what I think are stupid questions. You may have to wait a while in the waiting room for your appt but when you get in for your visit you know why. Dr. Orals will answer all of your questions, takes his time doing his exams and he listens. I have never once felt rushed, confused or brushed off. I highly recommend him to everyone and trust him with the care of my pooch.
