Elliott Consignment

One of the clerks that work here is quite rude. He acts like your presence in his store is a disruption to his day and that he’s doing you a favor by being there. On top of this, i saw him accuse an innocent woman of stealing when she was simply holding the item while she was shopping. When the would-​be patron asked why she was being accused, the clerk was harsh and dismissive, ending with the statement, «if you don’t like it, you can leave.» Avoiding this store based on principle.

I’m kind of surprised to see negative reviews of this store because my own experience has been so overwhelmingly positive but if that’s how people feel, ALL THE MORE FOR ME THEN. Granted, I’m more likely to shop the Broadway location because that’s where I consign but I like the Lincoln Park store too. I get fantastic deals on beautiful clothes every time I shop at either location. Clover Canyon, Marc Jacobs, Eskandar, Ted Baker, Brunello Cucinelli, Nanette Lepore, Missoni, Loro Piana, Alice & Olivia, Armani… get into my closet! No one working at either store has ever been anything but nice to me, ever. I don’t take it personally if they don’t accept everything I drop off because the point is for both myself and the store to make money, and if they don’t think their clientele is going to be interested in a given item then there isn’t really a reason for them to take it — and I’d rather have it somewhere else where it would have a better chance of selling anyway. I consign at a few places around town, including Trends which was mentioned in someone else’s review, and it’s very rare for an establishment to take everything a consignor brings in. Sometimes it’s not the right fit for their customer base, sometimes it’s out of season, sometimes they have a ton of (for example) blazers and don’t really have any room for more, sometimes a particular style of garment isn’t doing well so a store is reluctant to take more black pants/​wild prints/​pointy-​toed pumps/​whatever but that’s what you brought in. Sometimes it’s a brand that they accept but not the right piece for their clientele. I would rather work with a selective establishment that picks the merchandise best suited to their customers than one that just takes anything and everything, from both a consignor’s perspective and a shopper’s perspective. I’m looking forward to shopping here again next time I’m in the neighborhood. Maybe next week when the weather is nice!

This lady tried to sell me a bag with a broken zipper and, when I brought it back to exchange for something else (I knew there was no chance in hell she would let me have my money back), she was super unreasonable and became rude. Her reasoning for not taking it back was that she would be stuck with the item. I’m like well then you shouldn’t have taken in a broke bag to begin with lady. So you don’t want to be stuck with it?! What about me?! I’m out forty bucks and I’ve only got your broken bag to show for it. Anyway, I refused to leave. After several minutes of dead staring me, she gave me a new zipper. I am never coming back and I’m telling everyone I know, literally everyone I know, never to go to this sad excuse of a business.

Great locations but terrible consignment system. Upon drop off I had to leave my items only to come back after they finally sorted them after about 3 days to see what they wanted to keep. No online consignor system to check balance and when it was time to pick up I called Saturday to pick up Thursday and it still wasn’t ready at either store. The lady on Lincoln (Ms. Elliot) was at least apologetic but the man on Broadway was a real condescending jerk with a b@@@@ attitude. Won’t be going back if you want a real consignment experience go to Trends Oak Park they have an updated system and flows beautifully. The prices are less but somehow I made so much more with what they sold.

I went into Elliott’s Consignment today with two bags of clothes, a box of shoes and a bag of jewelry. One of the owners (older woman with blondish hair) started looking through my clothes and said, «I don’t buy any Limited or Ann Taylor Loft items.» Now, most of my items were from there but I did have items from Banana Republic and some other stores as well. She starts getting pissy with me that she doesn’t want to waste time looking through my things that she probably won’t want to buy anything. She takes one of my bags and tosses the clothes on the floor and starts looking through more of my stuff and makes noise and is tsking and says yeah yeah I won’t want to buy any of this and I said it isn’t all from Limited or Loft… she didn’t seem to care. She tossed my stuff back in the bags and was like well you just threw the stuff in here you didn’t even put it in the bags nicely. Um… I knew she would be going through the bags to see if she wanted to buy anything why would I put the clothes in there nicely what would be the point??? Did she want me to have had my clothes pressed and on hangers on a rolling rack… I was aghast! I said to her well I guess I should have brought my clothes to a consignment store on the south side. Needless to say she didn’t buy any of my clothes, she didn’t even bother to look at the shoes or jewelry I wanted to sell and acted like I was totally wasting her time. The store on the inside looks really crappy and the layout is awful. The owner isn’t running some high end boutique in Beverly Hills. I will never go there again.

I love this place. They only carry truly quality clothing, and its so affordable. Is it as cheap as Salvation Army… sometimes cheaper and you don’t have to put in all the work. I’ve gotten dress shirts on sale for $ 5 and my wife has gotten jeans for $ 5. They do have some really sweet luxurious stuff that is out of my price range. Nice area to try stuff on, tons of men’s and women’s clothes shoes and accessories. They always have stuff on sale. Great place worth a visit… they have a place on Broadway too.

Here is the break down. If you are expecting low cost gently used items, don’t go here. This store knows they are selling good stuff and price it to match. If you are like me, you are not expecting to pay more than $ 6 a shirt at a second hand store. Here you’ll find Boss shirts for $ 30 (which is still a good deal) and JCrew shirts for $ 20 (aren’t they $ 30 brand new?).
They did have great deal on men’s suits, if you can find one you like. The dress shoes are clean, more worn than I like, but again priced to match (i.e. high). They had some jewelry options and yes, much like some people’s reviews, the person working the store is quite unfriendly. I walked by the case, where I think the guy was online on his computer, and I stopped to look at something and no acknowledgement of my existence was made. It’s just called good customer service, a simple hi would have been ok.
So I probably won’t go back, unless I’m looking for a cheap new suit (but then I’d just go have one custom made at BZachs!).

I was not impressed with this location at all. First of all, the staff was not very friendly toward me at all. No one greeted me or asked me if I needed any assistance. The selection was somewhat small and the prices were a bit too steep for my liking. I doubt I will be back as I am sure there are other better consignment stores in the area.

This is a consignment store as good as the ones in NYC!
This is my kind of thrift store. They feature only good brand names and the merchandise is of decent quality. The price is very reasonable too. I’m in awe of some of their luxury stuff too. Today, I saw a pair of deep pink Loubis and my heart stopped. But, with thrifting its always about getting lucky and knowing the difference between the original and a knock-​off.

I heard from someone that this was the place to check out… not someone I know close but someone who was talking loudly about it to someone else. So as I walked down the street I decided to go in and check it out.
My first impressions was the smell… I am sorry to say it but you know that old dirty clothes smell. It was kind of a turnoff… I actually wanted to make me leave but we were looking for something for my wife.
I checked out some of the prices on the jeans and was a little shocked at the $ 60 to $ 100 price range. These people know that these items are used. Personally I do not really know the difference between what jeans cost… I am happy with a $ 35 pair of Levi’s!
We found the item that we were looking for and asked the girl working how much it was. She then told us that it had not been priced yet and to call back later. I was like okay. I was a little surprised that I had to grab my own business card from the counter and say, «Is this the phone number?» She said yes and then I said, «When should I call back? who do I ask for? and How do I tell that person what item I want?» Honestly it seemed like a hassle right now. I would have been happy if she had offered to call us back with the info. I had no idea the Consignment Business was doing so well that they would trust me to call back. It is now day 2 and I still haven’t called to find out that price. I wanted to do it but I do not have the motivation now to give them my money.
I will also make a note that the person working was helping the owner out but I really did not find it helpful to me at the end of the day. The owner might have been better off to lock the door and put a note up that they would be back in two hours.
I trusted the word on the street to check this place out… I did and I was not that impressed. What I did find was an overpriced designer thrift store that was in need of a good febrezing!!!

Hi. I am a guy. Do you know how hard it is to go consignment and thrift shopping as a guy? You probably don’t because you’re probably a fashionable girl. Well let me tell you it’s very very hard in Chicago.
Elliott is as good as it gets here. It’s probably as good as it gets even in Los Angeles and NYC. I didn’t walk out with anything because they didn’t have a good selection of size small for men (what else is new? Keep oppressing us small people). However, I must admire the quality and quantity of their selection. Good good brands. The lowest tier stuff were from Banana Republic and J. Crew. Also considering the brands, the prices are really good. It’s not thrift, but you really can’t find this quality and designer wear at thrift anyway. And you HAVE TO check out the basement. That’s about as thrift as brand name shopping gets.
I can’t imagine shopping here as a girl and not walking away with bags of stuff. Definitely gonna take my next gf here. Hm… or… I can just take any girl here and then obviously she’ll fall madly in love with me because of my fashion sense and economic prowlness.

This is a great consignment store. Nice clothes and well organized. Lots of deals in the basement. Sharon is great. Her husband is more reserved. Clothes are pricier than a thrift store because it is consignment, not thrift. You can tell the difference. I enjoy shopping here more than in thrift stores.

Honestly? I really hate giving negative reviews — makes me feel all dirty inside, like I’m just begging for bad karma. But this place really ticked me off.
I had a bunch of men’s oxfords given to me and whatever my friends didn’t take, I brought to Elliott Consignment. These were NICE oxfords like Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren and they were in good to great condition.
Upon dropping them off, the woman who runs the shop tells me she had a root canal that morning and would I mind if she looked these over later and called me? Sure, not a problem. But then she took one look at the two garbage bags I brought in and said «I see they’re all crumpled up and just tossed in there. I don’t know what I’ll be able to use if they’re not nicely folded.» Honestly, I’ve never heard of such a thing — this is a dumpy CONSIGNMENT shop, not Nordstrom. They way she approached it was just plain rude. And then she was going to allow them to sit even longer while she healed from her root canal and get even more crumpled? Really? C’mon now…
I continued to call and follow up with them about my shirts but I never got an answer or an answering machine. Two weeks later I finally get a phone call telling me she can’t use any of these items because they’re dated and not in great condition. How a man’s white oxford from Brooks Brothers goes out of style i’ll never know. Regardless, I told her to donate them and I’ll never go back there again.

4 stars for their $ 4 basement garments. I bought three blazers for $ 13!!! Does anyone where blazers anymore? I do, on the cheap!
Their prices are a little steep but they have lots of cute stuff.
The lady at the register even gave me a coupon for 15% off at their other store. Looks like I’ll make the trip over to boy’s town soon.

I love Elliot’s. I used to live near enough that I could go to both locations and I have found some great pieces. The owners are a husband & wife pair &I love them too! She is like the aunt you always wanted & if you ask, she can outfit you for anything. He is a little harder to break.
As far as consignment goes, they are my favorite. The bargain basement is often a good go-​to but the upstairs has some great pieces too. Some, I will agree are too overpriced.

I have mixed feelings on Elliott Consignments. The sales basement has many affordable cashmere and cashmere-​like wool sweaters and the clothing is sorted by color. (I would be OCD like that, but most of my clothes are black.) The prices for men’s designer suits are ridiculous. I’m talking about $ 500+ for a used suit. One can get a brand spankin’ new Calvin Klein or Banana Republic suit WITH alterations for less than that. However, they have suit jackets (jackets that are missing the matching pants — not sports coats) for under $ 100. Oh, and I found cute brown aviators. for $ 45. Why so much? It was made in Italy, even though the brand wasn’t printed anywhere on the flimsy frame. Meh!

It was no fun walking into an establishment whose owner, marking clothes with a red pen, looked askance at me, with 8 yr old in tow, literally shook his head and returned to what he was doing.
«Hello,» or «Hi, guys,» or «May I help you,» would have been nice. Hell, «get out of my store with that kid» would have been more genuine.
I asked him if he had what we’d come for. He said: «not for him,» gesturing.
Arrogant, misanthropic prick.

Hmmm, selection is a bit tired. Sweaters a little too pilly to be charging $ 30…outdated styles.
Not very impressed. There were bags of clothes under neath the racks, and the guy behind the counter was slurping soup, and couldn’t even raise his head enough to say «hello.»
I mean, if you have a fairly mediocre selection at high prices, you best be polite.
Skip it.

I want to like this store, but in the half dozen times I have been in, I have never found I single item I considered buying or even wanted to try on.
The prices are a bit higher, probably since it’s a consignment set-​up rather than an outright resale. They do carry a wide selection of more high-​end designer clothes, but what good does that do me if I never like any of them?
