Dog-a-holics

This is a top-​notch retailer in the Southport Corridor. The owner (who I consider a local celebrity) and staff are friendly and knowledgeable and express genuine interest in your dog’s needs. I almost feel guilty for asking questions and getting answers for free, essentially, but they’re quick to provide information so I don’t think I’m breaking any taboos or hustling them for free info.
The store has everything I need for my dog. I love that it’s here. Dog-​a-​holics is certainly a neighborhood institution. We’re lucky to have it.

I find shopping for dog clothes online nearly impossible. Different manufacturers have different sizing and it can be so frustrating. I went to Dog-​a-​holics looking for some sweaters that would not only fit my dog but keep her warm. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a great selection. Will be back!

Love this pet store! The staff was very friendly and helpful! It was my first time visiting, so the lady at the register gave me a bunch of coupons!
It’s a little pricey, but if you check in with Belly they have 4 options for free stuff with just one check-​in.

The staff at this store is very friendly and helpful and overall its a cute store (but pretty pricey). I am giving it 3 stars b/​c almost every toy in this store is made in China and comes with a hefty price tag. I just find it hard to buy a toy that cost $ 20 plus dollars and then I look at the tag and it says «Made in China». This is not a cheap store and they should really try to source their toys from the USA; especially with the constant recalls of dog foods and products that are Made in China. Other than that it has a cute selection of dog collars and leashes, and a cute Bakery offer dog treats.

Nicest staff in this store. I love stopping in and seeing what they have in their treat display. We’ve purchased the decorated treats for special occassions and the dog loves them.
Prices are reasonable and it’s the cleanest store!

I used Dog-​A-​Holics services for about a year. Unfortunately, I can no longer use them as I have moved out of their service area. However, I could not leave them without writing a great review!
I have two large dogs and I work a busy and often varying schedule. Dog-​a-​holics staff and walkers were always so flexible with me and my pups. I never had any issue with a walker not showing up. All walkers were respectful of my home and my pups. I’m sad to leave them but hope that this review will help convince other dog lovers to choose Dog-​a-​holics! :)

Absolutely one of my favorite shops to take my dog to. The Staff Is super friendly and ready to help if you have any questions. I line this place and I know my pup does too!

Been meaning to write this review for awhile. Last fall, my husband and I ordered an adoptaversary cake for our dog. He was dying from cancer and we knew it would be our last year with him. We wanted to do it up big and right. We were really excited by all the choices for flavors we could get for his cake.
On the day of his adoptaversary, the worst possible thing happened. We had to put him to sleep. It was truly the worst day. We called Dogaholics to let them know we would not be in to pick up the cake because our dog passed. I called the store, bawling.
Maybe it is too much to expect, but they still charged us for the cake. This just seems to be in poor taste to me. I am also a small business owner. There are times where I discount services or just do not charge clients because it would be tacky to do so. Or because it is just the right thing to do. I would have thought this might have qualified as one of those times with Dogaholics. It just would have been a nice gesture. Not expected, but kind.
We now have a new dog in our lives and her birthday was this week. And, of course, we had to get a cake. But because of our past experience with them, we went with a different nearby dog bakery and will from now on. If they would have shown a little sensitivity during our time of sadness, they would have kept a lifelong customer. I am not so convinced that they care so much about pets or their owners.

Very friendly and helpful staff. They also have an abundance of treats and toys for your dog. Rocko and I usually stop by here for a treat whenever we’re on a walk down Southport, since he knows exactly where it is because of the treats outside.
Overall this is a good place if you just need a quick treat or something. I wouldn’t recommend it for your everyday needs, since it’s a specialty shop and a bit on the pricey side.

It carries specialty items and is very small with friendly staff. The merchandise is a bit pricey since you can buy similar items for more affordable prices at Petsmart/​Petco in the area. I love to visit the store regardless since Lakeview is such a canine friendly area.

This review is based on the rudeness of the owner. It seems that every time I go into this store, the owner and her roommate who work there are very disinterested in my business even though I have bought many things there before such as beds, blankets, treats, etc. They never seem very helpful or just don’t want to help.
They seem very aloof as if I am bothering them. I went in to buy some treats and the same poor attitude was given by one of the girls working there. The next is what is causing me to write this review. The owner then came out from the back and didn’t even acknowledge or say hello to myself or my pet. At least say hello to my pet. Don’t ignore her as if she isn’t there. Walked right by her. Didn’t even look at her. Yes, us pet owners notice these things. Not even any kind of acknowledgement to my pet. I feel that if you are an owner of a pet store, you can show a little more enthusiasm when a customer is there, acknowledge their presence and their pet and ask if they need anything, or is there anything the customer needs help with. Instead she ignored us completely. Not a good thing, if you are an owner of a pet store. All it takes is a few words to make the customer feel welcomed. I started small talk with her and it was quite obvious she wasn’t interested in my pet or me buying any merchandise. Not even, can i help you with anything and not even a good-​bye thanks for coming in. There are other pet stores that acknowledge their customers and pets, and show much more attention to their customers and pets. A knowledgeable owner of a store knows the right words to say to make a customer feel welcome. This obviously is lacking here. The unfriendliness of the owner will keep me away. In fact, my pet doesn’t want to go back either to be ignored. I will never return and they lost my business and I agree with other Unilocalers about their snootiness.

I have a 1 ½ year old puppy bulldog and he’s been coming here since he was just a tiny puppy. I love that I can bring him in and the ladies that work here are always very friendly and you can tell they really care about their doggy customers. They remember Petey every time and recommend new toys and treats that he would enjoy. They introduced him to the Bully Stick and there’s no turning back now… Every time we visit, Petey’s like a little kid in a candy shop. Great selection, reasonably priced, friendly service, and great location.

False advertising of items on sale, only to rudely refuse you the discount at the register. I left then and will not be back. I’d rather walk an extra mile to the next boutique over for my dog treats then be duped and rudely treated like I was here.

A cute canine-​centric store on a commercial stretch of Southport. Prices are a little high, but that is to be expected in this area.

When I was preparing to bring home my pug puppy, I stopped in here to get some things. The staff was super helpful and even helped me find the most economical option for what I was looking for. I got great smelling dog shampoo, treats that are good for training, a little plush toy, and they even had some great Vineyard Vines Mascot collars half off! I even picked up a few hilarious greeting cards that they were selling. I brought my pug back in today and everyone was ooing and ahhing about how cute she was and hooked me up with some bitter apple spray so she stops chewing my furniture. It is a little pricey, but they offered me a 15% off coupon for signing up for their mailing list and a list of recommended vets and dog walking services in the area.
There is also a store just down the street that offers grooming, daycare, and training classes (which Zoey will be participating in in January)

The pet costume I had been looking for was displayed in the window, so I stopped in. The sales associate asked what size my dog was, and I sheepishly told her it was for my 17lb cat! I thought I would be shunned, but she was friendly and took two sizes out of the packaging so I could compare them. I ended up buying the costume from there.
She also showed me a small cat section in the back of the store. It’s not advertised, but that might bring in more customers if it were.

My dogs are my children and deserve to be spoiled rotten. So that’s what I do. I used to frequent the Lincoln Park location of this store and haven’t ventured to the Southport location until this past weekend and I am so glad I did. They have everything you could possibly want for your fur babies and more. I am obsessed with my pups and this store understands people like me. The selection here is unmatched of any puppy store in the city, and trust me I’ve been to a ton trying to find new and exciting things to spoil my kids with. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I already have plans to go back this weekend.

We went to Dog-​a-​holics today for my fur babies’ annual pictures with the Easter Bunny, and, man, do these people have this down to an exact science! Smooth sailing all the way… even with two fidgety dogs.
This was the very first time that we went without an appointment. Usually, I try to make sure that I have appointments for Easter Bunny and Santa pictures bu, t since I had been out of town, I hadn’t been able to do that this time.
We got down to the store, and checked in at the counter. They took our phone number and gave us a red card (red means wait list, and green means appointment) for our turn. They said it would be 15 to 30 minutes. In the meantime, we made our $ 40 donation to the Chicago Canine Rescue for the pictures, all the while nibbling on delicious cookies from the Southport Grocer. Yum!
Yes, the donation amount is $ 40, but it is going to a good cause. The event is run by the store and volunteers from CCR.
It took about 15 minutes for our turn and we went down to the basement where the photographer was set up. She was great. As an animal photographer, Jennifer Whaley from Fetch Portraits, is great with dogs. She can keep them calm and get their attention. Let her do her job and you will have a great experience. Also, as a side note, you can bring your children and then your human children can be in the picture with your furry children. Better than the mall. Promise!
Then after the picture, my fur babies got Easter Baskets filled with a rope toy, Stella and Chewy’s samples, Zukes samples, and coupons. Even a lollipop for me! Score!
All in all, another successful event at Dog-​a-​holics.
