Jennifer gave me the best cut and color I’ve had in a long time! The salon itself is good not great, but Jennifer deserves a 5 star review.

I went here on a groupon for a cut and blow up. I gave 2 stars because it was a discount but this was quite possibly the wort cut and blow dry. I went in asking for a trim and came out with a 1990s «the Rachel». The salon is so «low frills» it looks like a corner barber shop

First time going here — service was good, quick and the results were good. It was a little bit shorter than I had in mind, and the stylist didn’t really ask me about color before mixing it up and bringing it to the chair. It ended up matching and the color was fine, but I would have liked her to consult me first considering I was brand new. I used a groupon so the price was good.

Jennifer gave me an amazing haircut! Possibly the best haircut I’ve ever had. My deceptively thick hair looks too choppy if it’s cut wet, and without telling Jennifer that, she was able to figure out what my hair needed as she went along. She did some cutting, blow dried my hair, did some more cutting, straightened it, cut some more layers, made sure both sides were even, ran some texturizing scissors through it, and basically made sure that each individual hair was the perfect length before she was finished.
I used a groupon, which they accepted no problem, and clearly didn’t affect the wonderful service I got!

I love Colette’s! I’d been bouncing from hair salon to hair salon for years until I finally found Colette Salon & Spa. Everyone here is awesome, friendly, and so welcoming and coming in is always a fun time. I go to Colette and trust her with my life– usually I just give her a general idea of what I want and let her do whatever she wants. Best place in Chicago! My hair is always gorgeous afterwards and I always walk out feeling like a million bucks!

I got an online deal for a haircut and highlights here. I feel like the girl who did my hair was still in beauty school. It was the most disappointing hair experience I’ve had in a really long time… since the Great Clips days. The highlights are so bad– it looks like when I tried to do it myself out of a box. And the haircut is like when my mom used to cut my hair… just snip straight across, takes no skill. I also had to trim it up myself when I got home because there were so many stray longer pieces all over the bottom. Back to the highlights… it’s only been a couple weeks and I already have roots and the highlights are chunky and not natural at all. It’s like zebra hair. I get so angry every time I look at my hair. I would not recommend anybody with standards to go here.

My review is mostly specific to Jennifer at Colette Salon & Spa but my entire experience was great. I was in Chicago for a few days and couldn’t stand my hair. I found this salon which was close to my hotel. The receptionist was quite nice and I was scheduled with Jennifer for a cut, deep conditioning and style. It was quite easy to find the building and you take the elevator up to the 3^rd floor. There is no real signage but if you know the street address and suite it was quite simple.
I was a bit early and offered coffee, tea or water and was told Jennifer would be in shortly. Sure enough she was and we introduced ourselves. I told her what my needs were as we dissected my hair which hadn’t been cut in since forever and I walked out of the salon feeling like a new person. My cut was precise to what I had asked for and she styled my hair better than what I was expecting. Even with the humidity in the city, my curls lasted and I was really satisfied and happy with my cut and style. I wish Jennifer worked back home in Los Angeles but I travel to Chicago every few months and will definitely look her up again the next time I am in town. Bravo!

This was my first experience at a downtown Chicago salon since I moved here from the burbs and I was very happy with my visit. They matched the Groupon price for highlights/​cut since it was my first time. Victoria worked quickly and skillfully and I now have one of my best outcomes for my blonde highlights. She is non-​pretentious and straightforward and doesn’t push unnecessary treatments or products. Finding someone trustworthy and consistent has always been a challenge, but I think I may have found my go-​to place. Thank you, Victoria!

I used my groupon yesterday for a cut and full highlights. I was very excited as I look for advanced stylist to do my blonde highlights. Not everyone is good at them. Coming from the suburbs back to my old stomping grounds was a challenge. Assuming an hour and 20 minutes was enough time to get there clearly it wasn’t. Running about 30 minutes behind (I did call) after paying $ 15 for parking and spending 10 minutes trying to find it on foot. I walked in frazzled. Not the way I want to start out! I walked up to the desk and was then told they didn’t know if I could get in now! After a couple minutes my stylist Vicki walked up and said no problem let’s go. Great!!! She started by brushing my hair out which is when I noticed she was making these «disgusted faces «because she hit a tangled knot which happens often with my curly hair. She then handed me the brush told me to brush it myself an that I need to be brushing my hair! She then discussed the highlights and cut and went off to mix my color. She was about a ¼way thru the highlights when she suddenly said she doesn’t know if there’s enough time and she was told I made an appointment for partial highlights.(I’ve never had a partial in the 13 yrs I’ve been highlighting my hair) plus I bought full highlights! Which I gave them all the voucher numbers on the phone. I didn’t say a word because she’s a very harsh kind of woman. She finished the highlights for my hair in seriously record time but seemed to be the norm for her because she did it with great ease. She put me under the dryer then rinsed me and on to the cut$cut! We discussed I wanted about 2» off and layered throughout. She started cutting and noticed my bangs were very thin. I explained over time and different haircuts the «bang line“had slowly moved resulting in thinner bangs so she redid the hairline to give me nice thick bangs ! Awesome ! She did become a little nicer at this point. Everything seemed pretty good. The color was great but when she showed me the back I noticed that it looked like right in the middle of the back of my head it was like she just cut a line and the hair on either side was longer??? I thought I’ll look at home worst case my curly hair will hide it. I was also a little concerned about the bangs but I thought I think they’re ok. I checked out at the front desk and sat down on the couch to look for the tip. In the process my daily container of pills dropped and 40 pills I take a day for lupus and 5other diseases fell to the floor and scattered. At which time the desk clerk said OMG not the pills ! Get those pills. Collette made a comment by saying the woman’s name at which time the woman explained I meant like spilling alcohol you don’t want to waste THE pills! Uh fyi not those kind of pills! It was really inappropriate. Skip to when I get home… I knew those bangs were to good to be true! I have bangs (Which are to short) and then long hair! there’s no incorporating of the bangs into the rest of the hair. Which I also told her I wanted the front to be tapered to frame my face… not done. So now I have basically an upside down it I frame my face. Seriously worst cut of my life. I don’t know how this can be fixed without going pretty short. Really disappointed. I also noticed on here Collette never comments on any if these complaints yet plasters all over on how to give them a thumbs up on fb Unilocal etc! I researched Collette quite a bit and was really excited by her career. So much for that! Not sure how to add a pic or I would. They would have gotten 1 star but the color so far from what I see looks good. Pics are posted in the picture section numbers 8. 10. & 12. Blonde with glasses and square cut!

This salon is exactly what I was looking for in that it is upscale but not pretentious. Everyone was warm and welcoming. Jane did a beautiful job of styling my hair and I love my new look. Not only is she a skilled stylist, but she also took the time to educate me on strategies for improving the health of my hair. Thanks Jane!

So I’m in town and had been for an extended period of time. My stylist was out East, and I was not heading that way for awhile. Christmas was around the corner and I seriously needed to get my usual color/​partial highlight. It was a gamble as you all well know ladies, but I could not stand to look at my dark roots one more day.
I Unilocaled and found this salon. Now if there was one business that was going to get reviews that were all over the map, it would be this category. The consensus leaned toward the positive and this place was just a couple blocks from my hotel, so I made an appointment.
I’m not big on froo froo places where everyone seems to have an attitude just because. The salon was located on Walton, steps from Michigan Ave. but was not street level. I took an elevator to the third floor and it immediately opened up into the shop. It was super busy and seemed to have a good vibe, with lots of windows overlooking the street below. The receptionist greeted me immediately with warmth and sincerity. I liked this place already.
In no time, «Vicky», had me in her chair ready to do her work. The first thing she said after we consulted about color was, «that is a bad cut.» I had been so consumed with other serious family issues, that it never occurred to me that the reason I couldn’t style my hair for the past two weeks was because the last stylist botched my trim.
With nimble fingers and unbelievable quickness, Vicki had my hair in foils and color. Twenty minutes later, I had a beautiful new shade with just the right amount of gold shimmer. She asked if she could fix my cut and I obliged. She took great care and never even charged me for it. She also took her time styling my short hair, and I was really really impressed. I took a chance, and it certainly paid off. Thanks Vicky! Now I think I will plan my next trip out to Chicago when I need to have my hair colored again!!!

Jane was my stylist, and she did a great job! I got full highlights and a cut and love both! She cut my layers in some crazy way I’d never even seen done. She had me flip my head upside down to cut the layers from the inside. I’d never had anyone do that before, but the results are great!
Only complaints would be that if I hadn’t bought a Groupon, the cost would have been close to $ 230 for a full highlight and a cut. I feel like that’s a bit pricey. I also made an appointment at 11am, was running a bit late so called to let them know, and they didn’t even have me in the books for the appointment. They got me in later in the day, but it was kind of annoying. Overall though, my experience was good.

Jane did a fantastic job with the cut and color. She has been in the industry for two decades and owned two hair salons. Her classic approach to beautiful hair really paid off!

Actually, I should apologize first. I bought the deal on Goupon and I changed my appointments twice and I may forget to call them the second time. Usually they will call me before the appointment but I did not get receive any call the second time so I assume I have called. Then, I called in to discuss about the possibility for a new appointment today and I am not pushing they to reschedule one for me. the manager is way so RUDE, really pissed me off. I am not a native English Speaker as you can tell from my pic. But I am comfortable to express myself. She kept talking like I am lying. All right, that is fine as my memory may be vague. And then she kept saying FAILURE TO UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTION ON GROUPON IS MY PROBLEM, LIKE I am a mentally challenged people… And then she kept saying I.WILL.LET.YOU.IN.THIS.TIME.BUT.IT.IS.YOUR.FAULT. one word by one word like she is offering me a huge favor. I may have a long day today and I really need a break. I am so pissed off on her attitude. The refund does not matter so much right now. They are not worth my trust and it is a totally waste of time spending my 15 working minutes to listen to they saying ‘we r a fancy boutique salon’. Anyway, I do not think they are good or high class salon with this kind of attitude.

Get it quick: The owner and staff were unprofessional and rude. The balayage color service was botched, and the resulting corrective color service only provided new issues. Avoid this salon.
Full details: I came to Colette’s salon and saw Korie for a full highlight and cut. I waited over 15 mins for my stylist to ARRIVE (she wasn’t finishing up with another costumer, she was late). She was also awkward to talk to during the long appointment. When I asked for highlights to achieve an ombré look, she decided to use the balayage technique. Although the technique is the preferred way to achieve a more natural ombré look, she was not skilled in the technique and the results were horrific.
After I left the salon I saw how splotchy my hair was with large spots of blonde high on my head and many hot spots scattered through my hair. I immediately returned to the salon. (How they could let me leave with such a terrible color service in the first place baffles me). Although the staff recognized me from earlier in the day, no one came up to greet me and continued to talk amongst themselves. I had to ask to speak to a manager. Colette, the owner was there to speak to. I informed her that I was not happy with my service and I needed it corrected. She looked over my hair over and agreed it was not right, and offered to have it fixed. We went to her office to reschedule.
The owner was very rude to me. I requested a more senior stylist to fix it, as I understandably did not trust my stylist to correct something she couldn’t do properly from the start. She refused and gave me a difficult time rescheduling. I informed her I needed it corrected within a week as I was attending a wedding. The owner told me, «well it’s not that bad» with extreme attitude. It was wildly unprofessional. What owner wants work coming out of their salon that’s «not that bad»!!!
I had to see my original stylist Korie to have my hair corrected. As I walked into the salon, the owner Colette walked out past me– knowing I was coming in for my correction. Since she was still there when I arrived and having made the appointment herself, I felt she should have greeted me to apologize and also consult on the corrective service to make sure I would be taken care of. No one assisted my stylist on how to correct what she had done wrong.
Unfortunately the corrective service only swapped one problem for another. I left with uneven foiled highlights to try and cover the splotches.
I will never return and I strongly recommend you seek out an alternative salon in Chicago for your color services. You can find much more qualified & friendlier salons, all while still being more affordable.

I had my haircut with Jane with a Groupon. I have curly wavy hair and trying to grow out a pixie. She understood exactly what I wanted and didn’t give me a typical cut, very specific and listens intently. Will book for full price again.

I used a groupon here about a month ago and had a great experience! Todd did my hair and he did an amazing job! He listened to what I wanted and then made it happen! The salon is really cute… a little difficult to find if you’re not familiar with the area but nothing too bad. I highly recommend this place — especially if you have a groupon because then it’s really reasonably priced!

Bought an awesome deal for a shampoo, conditioning, haircut and blowout from groupon. Got my appointment with Corey and she gave me a gorgeous haircut and blowout! Loving it :) thanks!

I was in Chicago for a few days for work and decided I wanted to get a haircut and highlights at a salon close to my hotel. This salon had decent reviews so I decided to give it a shot.
I’m so glad I came here because I absolutely love my hair!!! Korie was an amazing stylist and did a wonderful job on my hair. She listened to what I wanted and provided great advice on hair color. The salon was very nice inside and in a great location. Colette introduced herself when I was checking out and she seemed very friendly as well. I would definitely come back next time I’m in Chicago. I wish I could move the salon to my area!
My only feedback would be to provide better signage on the outside to make it more obvious where people should go to get to the salon. It took me a few minutes to figure it out.

I recently came in to Colette Salon & Spa this past Friday. I went in for an eyebrow wax and haircut. The moment I walked in I was greeted with a smile and even offered to have my coat put away (I was offered drinks but I walked in with my coffee). For my eyebrow wax I had Lana (which I highly recommend). She’s very sweet and gentle. I’ve had my eyebrows waxed before and it was a total pain. When Lana waxed off my eyebrows I literally felt nothing! She kept a conversation going and even tried to crack some jokes (said my eyebrows were better than Cara Delevigne’s! Come on now.)
For my haircut, I had Corey — a young, sweet, delicate, hip hair dresser. I had long, dull, straight hair and walked out with a flawy frame without having TOO much hair cut off! I loved her patience and techniques. Will definitely recommend her to anyone!
