I felt the need to write a review for Co-Op Sauce(s) as they are technically their own entity although they originate from Sauce and Bread Kitchen. My first experience with one of their sauces happened at Southport Grocery & Café. I had sat down with a friend and when my omelette arrived I grabbed what I thought to be one of those generic tabasco sauces(cholula, tabasco, franks, etc) and poured a great deal all over my eggs. Yeah, I like things spicy… and what?! First mouthful of eggs, I recall my friend was talking to me and I just froze. OH. EM. GEE. This was not tabasco my friends. My mouth was very quickly engulfed in very(keyword: FLAVORFUL) flames. lol. I immediately knew I’d made a huge mistake pouring so much on my eggs and wondered what in gods name I’d put on there, but get this, as I explained to my friend what was going on and I went for the bottle of sauce, the burning sensation disappeared. It was like temporary spiciness. It was delicious! it was grand! Full of citrus flavor and just overall damned good. At this point I realize this is Greyhound Ghost sauce, oh yeah, this is some good stuff. It’s made with Ghost peppers, the 2nd hottest pepper on the planet, grapefruit juice and pulp and other stuff in it. As they themselves describe it, this is more of a relish than a sauce. Heck, I was blown away and delighted at the same time. Thank you«Brunch Gods» for this awesomeness! When I left I bought some sauces and in the months since I’ve bought more. This company knows their hot sauces man, seriously. They are exquisite and frankly, I am shocked every single breakfast diner and restaurant doesn’t already carry something by Co-Op. They are truly missing out. This one single item alone has brought me back to Southport Grocery & Café many times, yes that place has great food but it also has these sauces which are rare. Co-Op also does limited runs of certain batches of sauces, which in my opinion adds a bit of exclusivity to the brand. The idea of having limited runs that are full of flavor and awe and might or might not ever again be made available is just too much to handle and causes you to buy up more of the product. Throw out your Franks, Tabasco and Cholula guys and start stocking your pantry and fridge with these babies. I promise you your next dinner party or BBQ will have many people asking where you got these great sauces and if you are an establishment that sells food, what are you waiting for?! Try these out!
