Chuan Spa

I recently organized a spa day here for me and three girlfriends and I have nothing but good things to say about Chuan Spa. It’s worth disclosing that this place is MUCH more expensive than a lot of the other spas in the area, but in my experience it is worth it. The facilities are great and the bathing ritual is really, really relaxing. It’s definitely worth arriving here early for. I also really enjoyed the massage itself. The pressure was perfect and the woman did a great job addressing the problem areas I pointed out. I also like that most of the time in the massage was hands on (vs. other places where a lot of time seems to be spent grabbing bottles and organizing other supplies). The locker room to shower and great ready is also great.
My one tip would be to try to go early or to find out which days are less crowded if you want to take advantage of the bathing ritual as I found there was a bit of a wait for the aromatherapy showers (which are awesome), though it was not a problem with the saunas, steam room, and heated lounge chairs. It also seems to be the kind of spa that attracts ladies in groups so if you expect quiet in the saunas and steam room this may not be the place for you. Also the aromatherapy showers are open so if you plan to partake I’d recommend a swimsuit. It definitely makes the bathing ritual better for the more modest.

I’ve been to most of the spas at the luxury hotels in Chicago, and this is one of the best hands down. The area is very spacious and they have many different areas to relax. I like the 2 saunas they have. Nice touch. Would recommend and have been there 3 times. Each time they were consistent in providing excellent service.

Chuan spa is the best luxury spa experience you could ever ask for. Seriously the facility is amazing, and I had such a wonderful experience. It’s very high end, but worth every penny :)

Located inside the Langham Hotel. So tranquil and relaxing for a mini-​trip to the mid-​west.
Definitely go early and take advantage of the saunas, aromatherapy showers and the ergonomic recliners, so relaxing for the muscles. Really puts you at ease before your treatment.
The staff are super professional and truly provide world class service.
My luxury HydraFacial was AMAZING:
–red light therapy
–extractions through a vacuum like process called Vortex-​fusion, which also infuses peptide rich serums into the skin
–exfoliating peel mask
–Hand, neck and shoulder massage put me right to sleep
–comes with a full size hydropeptide eye serum, $ 82 retail
Rare to find a results driven facial in a beautiful luxurious setting, usually it’s a med-​spa.
Extras:
–Italian marble and running water throughout the facility
–nuts, fruit and chamomile tea
My skin has never felt so clean and bright!!! Fantastic. I will be looking up this facial in the Bay Area and purchase a series. In Chicago only the Langham and the Park Hyatt currently provide this treatment.
The therapist for the massage also provided the relaxation the bf craved.
Final check out, the gentleman in the suit just hovers around and makes it super uncomfortable. Really unnecessary. Not a good way to end. Still, 5 stars.

If you’re looking to splurge and spoil yourself for the ultimate spa treatments– look no further.
I’ve visited the Chuan Spa about four times in the past year and loved each visit. I was lucky to hit it off with Risa, the therapist who works wonders! My first few visits were all for prenatal massages where she made me feel as comfortable as possible with my growing belly. My latest visit was my first postpartum and it was so incredibly relaxing. Exactly what I needed after many sleepless nights with a newborn!
I highly suggest taking the time either before or after your treatment to relax in the Dream room. They have these super cool and futuristic relaxing lounge chairs. They play music and lightly vibrate– lulling you to dreamland… for 20 minutes. I passed out the first few minutes.
So if you want to treat yourself whether for a birthday, anniversary or just because you want to be completely pampered– definitely check this place out.

I am so torn on this review…
The facilities are 5 star. You get access to the workout room, great locker room with showers, steam room, saunas, heated loungers, etc. the swimming pool and hot tub… although when we were there, the hot tub was being worked on so no go for us. But, for the most part, the facilities are clean, crisp, and plentiful… and included in your spa service.
The spa desk was right next to a huge luncheon… which took away from the ambiance. I didn’t like walking out of the locker room in my robe to business people chatting it up while I walked down the hall to the spa lounge… that was weird. Not a fan.
We did the Chuan Rituals. The massage was good. I wish there would have been more explanation of my ‘symbol’ and the acupressure points, etc. They were just like, you are wood. I’m like… what’s wood??? Still no clue. I like the idea of Chinese rituals but isn’t the point to understand what it is? The facial was awful… like one of the worst I have had. She barely did anything to my face and was massaging my feet and hands for over half of it… which is nice, but I would’ve loved a facial massage! Then she squeezed and squeezed some very deep acne that I had… when most estheticians would never have done that. I have had about a million facials and this was pretty disheartening. My friend said the woman was just pushing products the entire time. My girl didn’t do that. The rooms were very nice and the ambiance was great. Music was the perfect level.
The dream room was super cool. It’s loungers that light, vibrate, play music and you can look up at the starry sky. Pure relaxation.
When we checked out, the staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing… they tried to charge us separately even though I booked the Rituals. They had to re-​run it, which again… isn’t the end of the world, it’s just at a spa of this caliber, you expect them to have it figured out. Oh and don’t worry, they had about 5 products sitting at the counter for my friend, HA!
Overall, I definitely think for what we paid for a high end spa, downtown Chicago… the Chuan Rituals is worth it IF you are the type of person that loves all the bells and whistles at a spa. I personally love steam rooms, saunas, etc. We were there at 9a and left at 2p. The massage was good, facial was bad BUT if you just get a massage… it’s pretty pricey SO if you do Chuan Rituals, it’s kind of worth it. I just wished the facial would’ve been better, no luncheon right by the spa, hot tub in working condition, and the check out staff knew what they were doing.

Had an enjoyable SPA day with my partner and I on a Saturday. This place is definitely not a 4 or 5 start SPA. Besides the overpriced services which dont have anything extra the SPA is shared with the hotels gym and pool. So if your thinking of a nice relaxing swim watch out for kids and other hotel guests. The waiting area is tiny but the water fall is nice.
The «dream» room is a total joke and don’t even bother. This well thought out space is where you relax in individual pods with music and where the staff continually comes in and out to fill water glasses and grab snacks for other guest. BIG FAIL!
I couldn’t figure out the aromatherapy showers so those seems like a buzz also. They should come up with a better way for you to get help or have a locker room attendant.

Cheryl gave me a great facial and eyebrow wax. I told her I needed to be out at a specific time, and she made the appointment work to the fullest despite my time constraints. I will go back to her next time I am in Chicago.

Do not go anywhere else!
Living up to the hype in every way, I agree that Chuan is the preeminent spa experience in Chicago. The facilities are beautiful and immaculate. The service rooms are beyond gorgeous and spacious, and the personnel is professional, accommodating, hospitable, and skilled.
I have been to the spa on two recent occasions, once for a massage with Violetta and then a hydra maintenance facial with Christina. Both times, I am happy to report that I experienced world class spa treatments. I was a bit concerned that I wouldn’t get my money’s worth for the maintenance facial (25 min) but Christina was more than thorough, making three passes with the hydra-​brasion machine plus twice more on the T-​Zone. There was still plenty of time for a face, neck, arm, and hand massage, too. My skin looks amazing more than a week later. Plus, there was no down time, sensitivity or redness associated with the treatment. I’ll never do a «dry» microdermabrasion again.
The next on my to do list here is a pedicure. I will forgo three months of the typical pedicure and paint my own toes just to justify what I’m sure will be another amazing Chuan experience.

Incomparable spa experience.
If you’re looking for it all… amenities, luxury, ambiance, services, swimming facilities… Chuan Spa is it, look no further.
Located in the überglamorous Langham Hotel, Chuan Spa is the crowning jewel on what is already an insanely well-​appointed, high end, beautiful hospitality experience.
Fashioned to mimic a more traditional Chinese spa, Chuan is all things zen, sleek, balancing, relaxing. There is not a corner of this spa that has not been well thought out and touched with beauty. In fact, I think I almost had a more rejuvenating experience in the locker room than I did during my massage. Even calling it a locker room does it a great disservice. The «ladies lounge» (and men’s, too) features a salt sauna, herbal sauna, chamomile steam room, warm therapy pods, aromatherapy showers and all of the vanity products one could imagine. Plan your time accordingly to hang in here for an hour or two at least.
Services are all performed in an equally heightened manner. The rooms are stunning, sumptuous and evocative of Chinese culture. With sliding doors, muted tones and candlelight, I was transformed to a dreamlike state before my tech even began. Sheer perfection is found in these rooms.
My tech started off a bit chatty for my liking, but the international sound of silence sent a clear message that I was here for tranquility and she followed suit quickly. My 90 therapeutic massage was expertly performed and I say that as someone who likes a bit more pressure and work in specific tired areas. A typical «hotel» rubdown this is not.
Chuan also offers Chinese Qi balancing, acupuncture and cupping (scary) in addition to more traditional services like facials and scrubs. Definitely can’t wait to try some of the more Eastern offerings.
Finish off your services with a dip in the co-​ed pool beneath a faux starry sky — adorable — or seek out the Dream Room with its sensory chairs, blankies and meditation music. Clearly a haven for those who just don’t want to leave Chuan. Like me.
Total five star opulence.

What an unbelievable place! If you cannot relax here then you need help! From the moment you walk in you should feel the stress leave g your body. I had a signature foot and leg massage. Yep, I fell asleep. Heavenly!

Guys a couples massage with your wife, girlfriend or fiancée is the ultimate foreplay. The staff are professional and attentive. I had the hot stone massage which was one of the most relaxing ever while my wife fearful that the stones would be too hot opted for a classic massage.
While The Langham is totally attentive, my wife was disappointed as the locker room was out of their complimentary toothbrushes and combs. For such high end spa, I would expect that the locker room would be constantly refreshed with complimentary amenities.
The men’s locker room has three saunas, one steam, one dry and one aromatherapy. The amenities are luxurious and plentiful. Everything from toothbrushes and mouthwash to shaving kits. The showers are private and clean with a separate changing area in each unit.

The search is over ladies. The best spa in Chicago has arrived.
I’ll start with the amenities first. There is a Himalayan salt sauna, a herbal sauna, a steam room with color changing lights on the ceiling, warm chairs to relax in, two small luke warm showers to pop into, and huge individual waterfall showers. There are three or four individual vanity areas and many big lockers.
Next I went to the beautiful spa lounge with the most comfortable sofas. The sound of the water in there was the most relaxing thing ever. Had some hot green tea and some dried fruit. I was then led into a huge gorgeous treatment room for my therapeutic massage. The massage was very relaxing and the therapist really focused on my trouble points. She also gave me tips on how I could reduce my headaches. I could really tell she genuinely cared. I wish I could remember her name!
Next I was led into my favorite part of the spa– the dream room. Here I sat on a 4 senses chair with color changing lights, relaxing zen music, vibrations, and aromatherapy. plus I was covered in a comfy blanket. I wanted to stay in there forever.
The pool is really nice, love the lights above it, just wish it was warmer… and it also really sucked that the jacuzzi was broken :(
Some other small details that I loved– the beautiful lighting throughout the entire spa area and the most amazing scent wherever you went.

This is one of the most luxurious spas I’ve been to. Be sure to take advantage of the fancy locker room and it’s 3 different saunas.
First was my massage. Even though the package I paid for only included a very basic, more pressure-​point based massage, my therapist was very willing to alter the massage based on my needs. She focused on my trouble areas and performed more deep-​tissue. She surprised me with her skills — usually when I want a skilled massage I head over to my chiropractor, but my therapist here was actually comparable! I was very pleased.
The facial was less facial, and more massage. Still relaxing. Just felt I’ve had more effective facials elsewhere. But all is forgiven because I just love getting my feet and hands massaged.
Between my massage and facial I got to relax in the Dream Room. It has these fancy alien-​pod looking chairs that play music and lights and vibrate. It’s fun. There are also nuts in the room for you to snack on.
Overall a wonderfully luxurious and relaxing experience, I’ll definitely be back!

As part of the opening promotions of the Chuan Spa at the Langham Hotel in the old IBM Building, a group of girlfriends and I signed up for 3 complimentary early morning tai chi classes on their plaza along the waterfront. The classes were a great way to start the day. After the 3^rd class, the spa director offered us a tour of the spa and a 30 day complimentary pass.
we went once a week for 4 weeks and loved it. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is gracious.
There’s a fully equipped workout gym. The trainer gave us a great overview and was generous with his time.
The walls of the pool room are clad in an off white stone that echos the rest of the building, with ginkgo leaves carved into one wall. The showers are tiled with squares of labradorite. Tiny lights twinkle in a Milky Way above the pool, and the hot tub is, well, hot and bubbly. The pool water is purified with an alternative to chlorine, so that was nice.
After the pool we’d head over to the spa area. There is a Himalayan salt sauna, an aroma therapy steam room that has tiny sparkly colored lights in the ceiling, and then a straight up aroma therapy room. They’re designed to be used in that order, each one progressively cooler, so that one’s body is set up for one of their treatments. There’s an aromatherapy shower for a final cool down. The hair products in the showers and dressing rooms are all Moroccan Oil, which I love. There are heated stone lounge chairs to relax on before getting dressed.
The staff was all very gracious. A day pass is a reasonable amount. The Chuan Spa was such a treat!

The most gorgeous spa! Staff could not be more helpful and friendlier. Had the most relaxing afternoon. Had my hydra facial done by Letty. Phenomenal!!!
