Captain Curt’s Bar Be Que

The phone number is disconnected. When I have driven by there it was closed. I’m mad because they left food out of my order that was promised to me.

Decided to give it a try after many years. First off when I walked in a woman was walking out and told me don’t eat here go to the place down the street. When I got to the counter to order my food the cashier which was also the owner Curt was on the phone and had me standing there for over five minutes. When he finally got off the phone and took my order I was handing him my money and he walked off. When finally returned and took my money he asked if I wanted dessert when I declined he insisted that I get some dessert because it was nice and fresh. I then declined again. At this point I was ready to leave. Long story short when I got my food it was terrible the rib tips were practically 90% fat and there was big globs of oil in the tray. This was the worst experience I have ever had. I think i should have listen to the woman’s warning.

Terrible Spot. The ONLY thing Curt has going for him is his sauce and you can get that at grocery stores in Chicago. His prices are way too high considering the poor quality, slow service and the fact he is in an area that has a large amount of competition in a one mile radius of him. He is on 82^nd and Cottage Grove. Uncle John is on the next corner at 83^rd and Cottege, Barbra Ann’s on 76^th and Cottage and Lem’s on 75^th across King Drive. ALL of which are cheaper, faster, more for the money and taste better.

I am really disgusted w/​this establishment! I spent almost $ 30 for chicken wings. It took forever for them to get ready & then when I got to my destination they were all burnt and dried out! I immediately called the restaurant & was given to someone that refused to let me speak to a Mgr. He told me to bring the receipt back in the next day (I was too far away to come back then) to get my money back. I went in the next day & Momma Curt totally avoided taking responsibility for their bad food & service. I had pictures of the food which was obvious it was burnt. She said I had to bring the food in. I advised the man I spoke w/​on the phone did not tell me that. She refused to give me my money back or apologize. Her explanation was this was just a one time incident. I will never go in this restaurant again! I would advise you don’t either unless you want to waste your time & money.

Well… 1^st, the food is really good but I see now why the captain hasn’t opened any other spots. When Curt is there the service is OK at best but when he’s not there the wait time sky rockets and the servers are incompetent. There weren’t a lot of people the place at all and I waited over 30 minutes for my food. I don’t expect people to move like they’re being timed on a game show but it would be cool to actually act like you want me to get my food before it gets cold & soggy. They tried to give me fries that had been sitting for at least 25 minutes but I asked for new fried since I had been waiting so long and they (half heartedly) obliged me.
Again, the food is usually good buy the service is a real chap shoot (with the best service being ok). I like the place and would love to see more of them but the service has to get better or I will stop going.

Curt’s has a fun décor, great sauces, and, sometimes live music. Unfortunately, that is where the good points end. The food is TERRIBLE. All of it. The links are mushy and flavorless. The ribs and tips are fatty, charred, and poorly cut. Then, to add insult to injury, everything is overpriced! Save your money. Travel of another 10 minutes and had over to Uncle John’s BBQ on 69^th & Calumet instead.

Thought I would give them another try and to my amazement, it was worse than before. The only thing I will go to them now for is change.

I was there yesterday with my husband we ordered wings and beef links. The fries were half cooked the beef link um lets say If I ate dog food it probably would be better than the soft nasty links they gave us. this was not my first time there but I have not been there in years and will never go back. For the money they charge the food should be way better than it was. I was not able to eat it my husband who will eat almost anything he pay for was unable to eat this stuff. the one star is for the sauce my husband said the sauce it still good but no good enough to cover the taste of the links.

Curts wings are good… Service however is another story!!! Ordered six wings… Saw seven in the basket just pulled up… Sittin there… I waited teeny min while they laughed and other monkey business… Knowing all the time I was gonna write this… So I waited saying nothing just watching the time… 22 min for those same wings that I saw at first! Sucess has made them even sloppier than when they had their forst location 15 or so years ago… this is a perfect example of decent to horrible!

A small group of us drove down to Captain Curt’s for lunch and we were blown-​away by the service, the food and the BBQ! I am already planning another trip! Captain Curt explained the different sauces and made recommendations on combining them to get the best tasting rips, wings and rib-​tibs in Chicago!

Let me Edit your review of Captain Curt, Theodis… the rib tips are VERY UNTASTY and I was Dis-​satisfied! the rib tips are not seasoned and they don’t have no distinctive taste, It just taste like pure pork with no season… yuck! :(
the chicken wings were good but they would of taste much better if they went easy on that curt sauce… too much sauce made it un –enjoyable and messy!
To sum everything up, captain curt bbq has completely fell off and I will not be going there again, to top things off, they are a BIT Pricey!!!
Take My Advice

some of the best bbq in the city. the sauce is a very sweet but tangy flavor, and the meat is well cooked and seasoned to perfection. if your in the area, stop by and get the wing and rib tip combo…(verrry good). one of my favorite spots…
