Amazing New Year’s Party… Great food, fantastic DJ. We really had a good time. Thank you

It has been 10 months since I first stepped into Café Prague and I am please to say that everything I expressed in my first review is true today. The food remains varied and prepared with care. Malada’s kitchen continues to balance its traditional Czech fair with wonderful salads-the Caprese– and fish offerings– the Grilled Trout. And the Garlic and Mushroom soup have yet to be surpassed by any I’ve had in the city. My recommendation as we enter 2016: be more aggressive with new menu offerings. Just don’t touch the Mushroom or Garlic soup ! 5 Stars are now gladly bestowed.

Food is amazing there! Staff is very nice and helpful. The only thing I didn’t like is their DJ. He is very rude!!! My friend had her 21 B-day there and when she came and ask him to play her favorite song he said that he doesn’t work for her and she can listen to those songs that he has in his playlist. Most of his songs were Polish and since we are not Polish we didn’t really enjoy it. When you have B-day dance part is very important and that polish DJ just ruined it.

My wife and I lived in Prague for a long time and we’ve always had a hankering for a good svickova or Smazeny Syr and Café Prague nailed it! Run by Czechs, clearly for Czechs. Great beer. Great food and the weird Czech décor :) If you get ‘the traditional fried cheese’ which is Smazeny Syr, get it with Muenster cheese. Also the sirloin in cream sauce(Svickova) is a great meal. Being Czech don’t expect the service to be on point, they’re slow, but hey in the Czech Republic its the same so just go in with that mindset. You are stepping into a Czech establishment. They’re very polite and helpful though, which is not what you get in Prague. On our last visit we took some friends and they absolutely loved it. I would recommend to anyone who wants the authentic Czech food and experience and not want to pony up for a flight to europe, go here! You won’t be disappointed!

Came here originally a month ago for a wedding party and food was amazing. Which I would have given 5 stars, however we ordered food for pick up yesterday and it wasn’t good. Fries looked very good but tasted old. Mushroom soup was good, but super sweet. Two people that had mushroom soup had stomach pain. Chicken with mushroom and cheese was very good. Very sad that food was not as good as when we went the first time.

We had them cater for an office lunch and I have to say I will abslutly be coming back. This has been one of my favorite sites to get authentic Czech food that reminds me so much of the time I spent there. So when it came time to order something different for lunch for the office. I knew exactly where to go! I was expecting to hear a few complainers since you can never please everyone. But for the most part everyone loved the Czech food and was excited to be able to try some dishes from an area of the world that they normally don’t get to eat from. The Sopsky salad was a favorite of the office with my favorite Svickova and the Bread Dumplings came in a close second. They were easy to work with and delivered exactly what we wanted at the time we needed it. We will be ordering there again for sure!

Finally, summer in Chicago has arrived. Rosa J., Daddy J., and Mama J. were checking out the Montclare neighborhood on the western boarder of the city. I «yelped» Café Prague ahead of time. Café Prague is located near the Belmont and Rutherford. What an Oasis! The lady servers there were absolutely gorgeous! When I asked for recommendations, one of the beautiful young ladies quickly explained some of the Czech staples. In the ends, Mama J. went with the traditional halusky(a noodle-based dish with bacons and sour cream); Daddy J. picked beef goulash; I chose the grilled filet mignon. The beef goulash also came with a choice of bread dumplings. While I wasn’t crazy about the taste of bread dumplings(semi-bland and doughy), the beef goulash was tender and filling. If you typically like any western-style comfort food, beef goulash would potentially be a great belly-warmer when the harsh Chi-town winter season comes around. Although the traditional halusky was listed as an «appetizer» on the menu, whoever with a small appetite should be fine with this dish alone. The combination of the potato noddles, fried bacons, and sour cream were quite delicious. However, I know many of you aren’t the fan of sour cream in any shape or form. You might want to skip this one if you dislike anything with an acidic flavor. On the other hand, my grilled filet mignon was cooked appropriately according to what I requested(medium). It was juicy, with a plenty of sauce to keep the meat moist. With one(1) starter and two(2) entrees, our total came to $ 41.90. I thought the price was fair for the neighborhood standard. Café Prague also has a small, yet well-decorated patio facing Belmont Ave. They also have a separate area for bar patrons. We saw a Czech-style birthday party going on at the adjacent table. As an immigrant myself, it’s always delightful to find a place to celebrate and make myself at home in a foreign country. This afternoon I got to know a little bit about the Central Europe, and walked out the restaurant with a full stomach.

We had dinner here on 5÷31÷15. The food is wonderfully and beautifully presented. Our server, Oaxana, was delightful. I did not get the manager’s name, but she was very welcoming. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. We will definitely go back.

Great service! Friend took me there to watch the Hawks game. Never had to wait for a drink. The food was amazing. Even tried a new app that was little pieces of bread with pork and cheese. The owner let us try it for free. Would suggest to all my friends. Had a great time. Meal and drink for 7 people was only $ 150.00.

I’ve been here seven times now and every experience has been excellent. The servers are all attentive, nice and extremely helpful in making food and drink recommendations. For purposes of comparison I’ve been to the other Polish and Czech restaurants in the are and find the service here well above the rest. The atmosphere is simple but tasteful. The value for the quality of food is exceptional. I can recommend the beef goulash with potato pancakes, the shnitzel and the pork shank as well as the selection of beer. If you’re up for some Czech spirits try the Becherovka, Fernet and the plum brandy. They usually have the game on(Blackhawks, Bulls, etc.) at the bar so I go here instead of the sports bars in the area when I want to watch a game and drink a beer. However, I haven’t been there for the DJ nights yet, so can’t comment on that vibe.

We have gathered as a small group of friends twice, and both times were fun, delicious, and memorable… which is saying something since their drinks are potent and flow like wine… or, in CP’s case, like plum brandy! * The food does not fail! We ordered a myriad of items and it looked like a king’s feast complete with a giant shank resting atop an enormous bed of sauerkraut. The potato pancakes are my fave and the mushroom soup is the mister’s. He had been dreaming about it since the first visit. The biggest problem with the food is you order so much and barely have any room for it when the actual meal arrives because you’ve already scarfed down this light and fluffy pâté(I don’t even eat that but it’s sooo good!) and other appetizers you just had to have. Oh, yes, we are a bit loud from time to time, and not once did we feel shamed for enjoying ourselves. Because of all of the above, this has become our new fave meeting place to share and catch up on our lives. *they also have flaming absinthe shots and a number of delightful martinis.

I have visited this place three times, yesterday being my most recent. I went with a friend were surprised to see kids running around. At times kids sitting around the bar area with I’m assuming their parent. I was also confused by their concept, alternative music? Bar and family restaurant? Weird mix. Food wise, we both had salads and both were disappointing. The lettuce tasted like it had been too long in the fridge. I had nothing to drink but water, and even that wasn’t filled promptly by our distracted waitress. Quiet annoying since she seem to check on everyone else(we were in the bar area). On the flip side, coffee was pretty good!!! Two stars for it!

Great food and service but definitely felt like more of a club/lounge than a restaurant. Went here on a date night with my husband and expected a nice, soft lit romantics place for dinner but it was completely different than what I had imagined. Not terrible, just not as I had expected. They have great Martinis and Eastern European food for good prices and it was relatively quiet, apart from the pumping music that made it feel like a club. This is definitely a place to go to for just drinks to hang and not so much a date night. I’m only giving it three stars because they’re going through this process of figuring out of they want to be an upscale restaurant or a club/lounge. Easy to find parking though!

Had a great experience eating here! The waitress was very kind and offered great recommendations, and let us try a sample appetizer on the house. Our drinks were never empty and she was attentive without being in our faces. Let’s talk about the ambiance. Simple but elegant. The music was great. Lots of Melodic metal ballads and dancy cover songs. And best of all, they are OPENLATE! I had goulash which was tender well seasoned, and came with my favorite, potato pancakes. My boyfriend had chicken schnitzel with gooey cheese and mushrooms with mashed potatoes. So freaking good! Will I be back? Oh yes.

Wow. Not sure where this is but it’s like 6.5 miles west on Belmont. Went here for the bf’s birthday with his family. Got there at 6:30pm and ended up staying until 1am. Let me explain… We get there and order drinks. I had the staropramen which was good and ended up drinking that all night. I started with the mushroom soup and then the goulash for my main. My food was really good. For those of you who are cooler than me, they do have absinthe but my wilder dranking days are quite rare now. The best thing was that around 8ish the DJ starts playing quite a bit of disco a la Bee Gees. Then as it gets later he starts playing a lot of obscure new wave and lesser known 80s music. Shut. The. Front. Door. I. Die. After the ‘rents pay and leave, we go to the bar and have a few more drinks. All of the staff here was nice and they spoke English for us. Make sure your phone is charged so you can shazam all these songs. I knew they would play One Night in Bangkok, but the lesser known Boney M(not Rasputin!) was a surprise. We actually got out to the dance floor for several songs. Definitely a fun Saturday night!

Staropramen is on tap here! Can you ask for a better beer? Very Europe feel to this place! Usually had something exciting going on here, from bands, samplings or new Dj’s! It’s a must do if your in the area! Have a Staropramen and enjoy the outside area! We’ll worth the trek! Seriously the nice staff ever!!!

Café Prague is the place to be! Very chill and cozy ambiance. having a dance floor/stage area makes it a great venue for many different events! The food is very tasty! Ive had 7 different items in the menu all but one were very good. The half duck, It’s because it was the Bomb! I licked the whole platter clean! Great staff, they were all friendly, accomodating and pleasant!(Also HOT!) Me and my fellow Chicago Ducati Riders are very fortunate to have been introduced to Café Prague and its beautiful owner Milada! Café Prague is CDR’s official Bar/Restaurant destination!
