Dr. Benson is a great endodontist. She performed the first root canal I had ever had. Because my insurance changed I went to someone else for the second root canal and he in no way compared to Dr. Benson. She has a wonderful bedside manner. She listens patiently, communicates well and shows great empathy. She takes a conservative approach rather than trying to maximize her profits. There was the possibility that I needed 2 or 3 root canals but she thought it was better for me as a patient to wait and see if the one root canal solved the problem. I don’t find that level of integrity very often. I thought that a root canal had to be one of the worst experiences from the way people talked about it but I must say it was not bad at all in her chair. The technology she used was very current and the procedure was quick. After the procedure I needed a stronger pain medication and she quickly addressed the issue outside of business hours. In addition to being a great endodontist, Dr. Benson is a very nice person and I recommend her highly.

Omg, I really cannot say enough good things about this office! The entire staff is great, hard working, professional, but with a lot of personality, charm, and humor. A big part of the process of a root canal is making the patient feel welcome and comfortable, and they are the best! I barely felt the numbing shots, which was astounding, and the part I was dreading the most. The root canal itself was quick, painless, and… dare I say… enjoyable? It honestly was, and that’s unbelievable. And besides a small ache after the shits wire off, I had no pain after a couple hours, and could bite just fine. Her office recently moved to 700 S Federal, in Printers Row, but they’re there and awesome! If I can, I will travel from anywhere to get a root canal done by Dr. Benson

Had my first root canal yesterday. Dr. Benson got me in in an emergency. i had a painless procedure in a professional environment. The anaesthetic has worn off but I’m still happy with my entire experience. I recommended Dr. Benson to a couple of family members yesterday to find out that both had already also had root canal done by her. If they were Unilocalers they would also be adding 5 star reviews. All of that said, I hope to never be back!

Wow! I had a root canal today and it was painless n swift. Great staff and Dr. Benson is very friendly n good at her craft. She walked me through procedure and treated me as if I’ve been a customer for yrs. Her staff is also very friendly. I totally recommend her for my husband when needs his a root canal.

First thing to mention is that I am petrified of all dentists. I had 2 great experiences today. It must be a Halloween miracle. I was traveling for business last week and had a tooth that started hurting me. I kept my fingers crossed it would go away and used a lot of mouth wash. By Sunday I was in pretty bad pain and I knew I would need a root canal. I have not been to the dentist in many years because of my fear. Today I turned to Unilocal for help and I found West Loop Dental. They got me an emergency appointment the same day and in I went. Everyone there was very kind and patient but they don’t do Root Canals.Dr. Cooper called Dr Benton and they took me right away. Dr. Benson and Jennifer are the best. They both put me at ease immediately. They went at my pace but finished the job quickly and efficiently. This was the first time I have had this procedure without anesthesia. I will defiantly return if more work is needed. I would recommend this office to anyone in need of this procedure. There is also an inexpensive parking lot right next door which is very convenient.

Dr. Benson and staff were very friendly, personable and professional. I got a root canal there earlier today. The entire experience was pleasant. She explained each step and made me feel very comfortable. Great place!

I have no complaints at all, the office and staff are great!!! I did let Dr Benson know I was going to write a review, because she was really patient and awesome. Keep in mind I am not a fan of the dentist when the service is beyond a cleaning. In order to give a real review I waited until my entire process of the root canal was done. My initial plan was to get put to sleep (I’m a true chicken doodle) — -after meeting Dr Benson for a consultation I decided she seems to be good and other reviews were raving about her so I’ll go for gas. On the day of I decided to just use local and I’m glad I saved the money because Dr Benson completed my root canal without pain and made sure I was comfortable. If you deciding on a dentist to perform your dental work Dr Benson is the one hands down.

Best root canal experience ever!

I am only in Chicago for the summer so when I had severe tooth pain I was pretty nervous to go see a dentist that wasn’t my own. Freshworks Dentistry gave me a referral to see Dr. Benson when my x-​ray showed I needed a root canal. I was very nervous and have self diagnosed «dental anxiety». I found out from this experience that this fear is only because of the horrible dentist I had at home. Dr. Benson made me feel immediately comfortable from the décor of the office to her kind receptionist. Keisha, the hygienist and assistant made feel comfortable. She hooked me up to the laughing gas and explained the basics of a root canal.
Dr. Benson introduced herself and talked about her kids with me. She also explained what they were going to do and that there is less drilling with a root canal than even a normal filling. She was right.
Keisha was also very kind to let me squeeze her hand when I was getting the novicane. It wasn’t that the novicane hurt, it was just my reaction to it.
I was very comfortable during the procedure. When I had questions she stopped and let me ask. I didn’t think she would understand me with the equipment in my mouth but she did perfectly!
I was most impressed when I got a phone call at 9pm that night asking how I was doing. She told me that she meant to call at 8 but left my phone number at the office so she went back to the office to get it. That was completely above and beyond.
She even spoke with Freshworks about my next steps.
Thank you Dr. Benson and your team for making what I thought would be a horrible experience into a pleasant one.

I want to echo the other positive comments. I can add that Dr. Benson has even gone to my regular dentist’s office to see my x-​rays on the dentist’s fancier equipment, and to confer about my dental issues (that were started because I didn’t treat sinus problems with the seriousness needed).
Root canals are noisy and time-​consuming with your mouth wide open but other than that it was a painless procedure.

Brooke Benson is a dream. I relied on Unilocal to find her after I needed a re-​treatment from a root canal done by a general dentist. I have had maybe 3 root canals now, and each time is painless! Dr. Benson is so good at what she does, she uses an appropriate amount of Novocain at the site rather than numbing out your entire face. Her staff is super kind and she has a great rapport with them and pleasantly distracting banter during the procedure. She gives me Motrin on the way out the door and I am able to go to work right afterward. There is some low grade soreness but totally manageable.
I have also referred a friend who has had a positive experience. Total life saver, it is easier and more painless to have a root canal by Brooke than a cavity filled. She is incredible.

Keep in mind that I haven’t written a review or even logged onto my Unilocal account in like two years. I use it all the time to search stuff (it’s how I found Dr. Benson) but I don’t often review… so when I do, it’s cause I’m really pissed off or I’m really very pleased with an experience. With Dr. Benson, it was definitely the latter. She really is the most pleasant person even in the most unpleasant of circumstances.
I went to her back in March for my first and only root canal. I was really nervous and had no idea what to expect. So much so that when I felt a small pinch while she was administering the needle full of anesthesia, I freaked out and was like wait I can still feel stuff! Haha, I thought she was starting the root canal, even though she just told me moments prior that she was giving me the anesthesia. Silly me.
It turns out that I was really nervous for nothing. The whole procedure is pretty much painless. I mean it sucks and it’s uncomfortable, but it’s a root canal. I don’t think the discomfort can be avoided no matter where you go (unless you opt for nitrous oxide, which I believe is an option at her office too). My gums were really sore after the anesthesia wore off, but I was fine within the week. I was surprised when she called to check on me a few days later. You can really tell she cares about her patients and her business. I hate to even think about the possibility of another root canal, but I know where I’ll be going if I ever need one.

Brook and her assistant Carrie are phenomenal. I had to have two redo root canals. I couldn’t have asked for a better specialist. They made having this procedure done as pleasant as having two root canals can be. I loved the atmosphere and energy in this office. Hopefully I won’t have to have anymore root canals done anytime soon but if I do I know who to call. I highly recommend this office! CS

Dr. Benson is AMAZING!!!
A tooth that I had a root canal on a year ago started suddenly hurting on a Friday. It went from uncomfortable to the worst pain I have ever felt by that Saturday morning. I couldn’t eat or sleep. (I couldn’t even drink water because the fluid passing by the tooth even made it hurt!)
I called my regular dentist Saturday morning and he referred me to Dr. Benson. I called her for a dental emergency and she got back to me very quickly and was very reassuring. She knew exactly what was going on and prescribed me medication and made an appointment with me first thing to re-​do my old root canal. Everything went smoothly from the time I called Dr. Benson for an emergency, to the moment I left her office after re-​doing my old root canal.
Overall, I was in a horrible dental situation and Dr. Benson made that experience as wonderful as getting a root canal could be. She even personally checked up on me a few times throughout the days before and following treatment. I’ve never met any doctor, of any sort, who cares like Dr. Benson.
Another note: the location of the office is a little awkward getting to if you don’t have a car, but it is well worth the trouble!

I was a bit horrified when I was told I needed a root canal and did my due diligence on researching endodontics. The reviews were on point — Dr. Benson is amazing.
She took a look and made sure I actually did need a root canal, gave me adequate numbing medication, and before I knew it, the root canal was done. No pain, jaw just a little sore from opening my tiny mouth enough for them to reach (my fault, really), didn’t need to take any advil afterwards. So far so good, tooth hasn’t bugged me since!
The whole staff is sooo nice and walked me through everything, made the time fly by with conversation. I think I’m gonna need another root canal, and even though I’m moving to SF, I think I’ll come back here when I visit. Root canal here while on vacation would be just fine by me!

When the general dentist I went to told me I needed a root canal, he referred me to a different endodontist, and when I learned that endo didn’t take my insurance my dentist basically told me I was on my own and he couldn’t be bothered to make another referral (yeah, as soon as my crown is done I’m finding another regular dentist). So I hit Unilocal and cross referenced with my insurance web site and found Dr. Benson. It wasn’t at all convenient location-​wise, but I went ahead and called. They got me in the very next day!
When I got there, the waiting room was pleasant, the front desk staff had already contacted my insurance and had a breakdown of costs waiting for me, and I got to jam to some cool 80s tunes while I waited. There was even a Costco-​sized bottle of Listerine with a pump and tiny cups in the bathroom! Dr. Benson was pleasant and friendly and HAWTT (apparently she does CrossFit). Her assistant was very professional and friendly as well. What really struck me was the professional rapport they had. I’ve never seen a dentist treat their staff with so much respect and professional courtesy. It was awesome. The procedure was quick, and I was entertained by the banter between Dr. Benson and her team (I mean seriously, why would someone be annoyed by that? It’s not like you’re going to be having a conversation with them during your root canal? They do it on purpose to distract you, I think).
I hope to never go back, but if I ever need further endodontic work, I’ll call them first.

I’ve had 5 root canals over the past 20 years (don’t ask) and Brooke has done 3 of them. Of course this procedure never conjures words like «pleasant» or «great», but she somehow pulls it off. Her «chair-​side» manner is right up my alley as well.
I first met her at Lincoln Park Dentistry where she performed an absolutely painless root canal on a very difficult tooth. I was so impressed, 7 years later, I sought her out for more «pleasantries». Luckily she decided to stay in Chicago.

I noticed the one bad review on here said that Dr. Benson chatted the whole time through the root canal. That is true for me too, but I really enjoyed it and it made me feel comfortable in an otherwise uncomfortable procedure. I even comented to her that I had never had a dentist talk through a procedure and she said that people should be worried when she isn’t talking. I took it as confidence in her procedure, which made me feel comfortable.
The rest of the staff were pleasant and I was happy that they were so upfront with the cost of the procedure and what I should expect through all parts of my visit.

I’ve had two root canals performed at Benson Endodontics on two separate occasions. I’ve had several dental procedures over the past few years and these root canals were the least invasive of all of them. This is saying a lot since they basically go inside of your tooth. I have TMJ issues and they were very accommodating, stopping whenever I needed a break to rest my jaw.
I went for a third time when I had another tooth acting up, sure that I would need a third tooth taken care of. Rather than immediately getting to work and busting open that tooth, Dr. Benson performed a sensitivity test, said it should get better in four to six weeks, and told me to call back in two months if it wasn’t less sensitive. Lucky for me, she was absolutely right — it did get better in six weeks. It’s one thing to do a root canal well, it’s another to have the caution and prudence to send a patient (and money) away on the chance that they may improve.
