Barry Regent Cleaners

Great for alterations. Got a nice pair of Gucci slacks at Elliott Consignment, just north of the cleaners, and had them let out for $ 15. It took 2 weeks.

Visiting Chicago for a wedding and discovered my pants no longer fit. I called up the Barry Regent Cleaners, and they were able to tailor my pants for the next day at no extra cost. The fit was also perfect.
The alteration was a great price as well.

Went here on a referral to get my wedding dress cleaned ($ 150). They did a good job but since there was some dirt stains on the hem I still did a lot more work on it at home. Brought some clothes that needed to be dry cleaned too since I was going there anyway and those cost a small fortune to have done. Very expensive but they are very nice, speedy and do good work.

What a complete joke wedding dress preservation is at this cleaners. After 20 years of carting my «carefully cleaned and preserved» dress box around from house to house, my girls convinced me to open the box and show them my dress. After being told by the cleaners to keep it airtight so it will last for the next generation, I opened it to show the next generation and was disgusted by what I found. The dress had not been cleaned at all. There was dirt all along the bottom from the reception and a stain on the front (I still remember the appetizer that caused the stain!) what a great gig — tell the bride not to open the box so you can hide the dirty dress and still make $$. I would never recommend this place and if I didn’t live out of state, I would be dragging this mess back in for them to see and demand payment. Brides beware!

I thought I’d try Barry Regent to get a shirt’s sleeves altered. I knew they’d be pricey but was willing to try them again.
$ 25 to get cuffs moved an inch up on a shirt? Grossly overpriced. I went to several drycleaners to price match their charges for altering sleeve lengths, and Barry Regent was the second highest of them all.
For a neighborhood cleaners, they charge an arm and a leg for everything, whether it’s simple laundry services or alterations. The folks who helped me behind the counter were pleasant, but there are ample drycleaners around the area that I won’t have to go to Barry Regent again.

OK I impressed… Walked in and I did not say a word and they just brought my stuff… Having 100s customers it is impressive and I’m there not more than once a week for last 5 months… Voted the best in Chicago several years in a row for a reason… Always amazing service and quality…

The prices are crazy, I took 3 shirts for laundry and a 2 piece suit to get dry cleaned and my bill was almost $ 40.00 I don’t typically need repairs so my cleaning needs are pretty basic. There are a lot of other cleaners in the area so I won’t be back.

Awesome place. Great service and great quality. Turn around time is wonderful as well. This place has stayed in business for so long because of their great work and reputation!

Here goes… After being a loyal customer of BR for over 30 years, I’m declaring this business a crap-​shoot. Sort their ratings by date and you’ll see their glory days are behind them. After a negative experience that went on for a few days I took the item in question to another cleaners and they did a much, much, much, better job than Barry and told me my request was not unusual. Prices have always been high. The morning staff and all the managers have excellent customer service. For several years I stopped using for alterations because of 2 weeks for the smallest of jobs but recently the nice lady is in charge. I took an on-​line purchased coat in with good results and she did it in a week so I would use for alterations. BUT, I have to agree with the Chris guy who submitted a Unilocal with one star over a shirt. They believe they are always right. And, I had a similar experience with the other Unilocaler with the damaged blouse that they wrapped up and never mentioned. That happened to me a few years ago. I noticed all the shredding in the back before leaving the store. After the manager became involved he explained silk breaks down, yada yada AND he knows they have cleaned the blouse for year. OK — I see how that can happen… but they did not have the courtesy to place a note outside the bag (they had a 2X3 «Best Can Be Done» tag tucked inside) and given that they had made a few hundred dollars cleaning the blouse for years, you’d think they would not charge me and we’d both mourn the death. My recent experience had so much involved I can’t even get started. Poor communications, they had questions on my job but never bothered to call me back — made the decision on their own, told me I never spoke to the manager when I had, ignored his request for a do-​over once (he admitted it) and then either ignored his 2^nd request, did it wrong again, or he told them not to do it. What was once a very good dry cleaners is now skating on past success. I will use them for same day items. I will use them for nicer items (and cross my fingers) but will continue to look for a substitute. I have moved another type of item (the one that they said they could do as requested but after 3 attempts did not) along with my non-​rush items to my new dry cleaners partner. Maybe a 3 star, but factor in their cost and their inability to deal with a bad situation — which happens — I have to be honest and give ‘em a 2.

After having numerous items of fine clothing ruined by mediocre cleaners in the past, I made the choice to move up to the premium service of Barry Regent. They understand fine garments and take the time to ensure the cleaning techniques they apply will not ruin clothes (or at least alert you to before taking your garment that it could possibly be a challenge to clean). They hang all garments with paper inserts to keep them full and free from wrinkles. The only reason I am giving 4 and not 5 stars is due to the fact their tailoring takes too long. If you live in the city and want to be sure you protect your fine clothing, this is the cleaners to use.

Barry Regent destroyed my Celine bag. It was almost a $ 3,000 bag and in cleaning it, they singed the leather, changed the color of the suede, destroyed the shape, and ruined the bag. They have been very negligent in remedying the situation. It is almost a year later, and I still don’t have my bag back. They sent it somewhere in Wisconsin to have it «re-​constructed.» I will believe it when I see it. What they should have done, is admitted fault, and paid for the bag as soon as they destroyed it.

Multiple items in the past 6 mos have either been damaged or pressed poorly. Most importantly, the customer service is terrible and they are severely overpriced.

There are a few things I refuse to have more than one of in this life. My hair stylist, my eyebrow lady, my barista, and my trusty cleaners. I am hardly ever in need of going to the cleaners but when I do, I make sure that I take all of my things to Barry Regent. I have gone through it all at one time or another. I had a last minute pressing situation where I needed my very delicate gown pressed ASAP and it was ready to go in less than 5 minutes! I had two pairs of jeans that I wanted more of a skinny leg on and the seamstress had both pairs ready in less than 2 weeks. I managed to get foundation on my tan blouse and without a doubt they were able to remove it without discoloration to the material. The three managers are complete life savers at BRC. Paul, Q, and Rich always tackle my problems and give great customer service as well as the friendly counter employees.
Nothing bad to say about BRC, you pay for quality! A job well done deserves 5 stars.

It was my own fault for continuing to go here (convenience) after my clothes were returned with weird crinkles around the buttons, collars, sleeves, etc., buttons that were ruined bc they weren’t properly covered during cleaning, etc. — I even overlooked a blouse that was burned somehow because, well, it wasn’t that noticeable and it was kind of an old blouse anyway. The real bummer was that I went to pick up a dress I was planning on wearing to an out-​of-​town wedding the following day. Normally I wouldn’t have even taken it out of the bag and just packed it right up, but for some reason I took it out and discovered that one of the straps was fastened together with a safety pin! It wasn’t broken when I dropped it off, so they clearly broke the dress and, without simply sewing it back (hey– fine, stuff happens, just fix it), they safety pinned it together, didn’t say a word to me and sent me on my way. I was fuming at the near miss of having to wear a safety pinned dress to a wedding, so I brought it back the next day (calmed down) and explained the situation. I think it was a manager that I spoke with, and I was so stunned that he didn’t apologize, didn’t refund the cleaning, and acted like it was a favor they weren’t charging me to fix it. Didn’t even see the point in getting mad. Lesson officially learned. Ciao.

These guys should be at 4 stars, so I’ll say 5 to help bump them up. They really are professional and have always been helpful, I recommend them.

Consistently great service, and they were able to get a difficult stain out of a silk blouse and coffee stains out of a silk dress. A little more spendy than some other cleaners in the area but worth it for the quality of work – especially if you don’t need drycleaning done on a weekly basis. Plus, they often have coupons circulating.

I had a beloved winter coat whose lining was falling apart. Rather than buy a new coat, I decided to buy some fabric and commission a new lining. I took the coat to Barry Regent and they quoted me a price. It was not inexpensive, but it was still cheaper than replacing the coat. The seamstress came out to consult with exactly what I wanted. She said she could have it done in two weeks.
Two weeks later, I went to pick it up and was thrilled with the outcome! The original lining had a ribbon running across the waist and ruffles at the bottom. The seamstress had replicated it perfectly! It was top-​quality work and well worth the slightly high price tag.
Will definitely take my future alterations here.

I dropped off one shirt and suit jacket to get cleaned for a wedding. I returned two days later to pick them up on my way to work. I give one of the people working behind the counter my slips and he goes to retrieve the clothes. It took longer than I was expecting and the worker came back several times to check the computer and eventually brought another man over (maybe a manager?). Eventually they tell me that my shirt has been misfiled and ask for a description. No apology or anything. I was now running late for work and had to leave. I had to tell them to call me if they found my shirt. Awful customer service. I hope they find my shirt, but now I need to buy another one for the wedding.
So in short, don’t come here unless you are looking for someone to lose your clothes and act like it’s not a big deal.

I’d been avoiding this place for a while. The yo-​yo reviews, rumors of high prices and story of a porn star patronizing the business (what if… that stuff… gets on my clothes?) scared me away. But after years of going with cheap (er) cleaners and being dismayed at the product, I had to see if paying some extra moolah was worth it.
And, you know what? It was.
It’s never fun paying more money for something that you can get cheaper but in certain circumstances, it’s worth it. The dentist. Yes. Doctors. Uh huh. Hotels. Usually. I’m going to have to add dry cleaners to this list. I have spent years going to area dry cleaners, looking for a bargain, only to find shirts that are still dirty and prices that seem to change as the wind blows. With BRC, I get consistent pricing, clean clothes (imagine that), a professional atmosphere (they have this down to a science: step up, drop the clothes, give instructions, get your PRINTED ticket, get out), and the prices aren’t as shocking as I would believe having read some of the reviews (granted, I am getting gently worn standard pieces cleaned but nothing I have paid has given me the vapors).
BRC, keep cleaning my clothes well and in a reasonable amount of time, and we’ll stay cool. Please don’t make me rue this day. kthxbye.
