Bark Side of the Moon

You can tell the owner Jeff really cares about animals because of the way he has the place set up. It makes me happy to go in there because the dogs are so happy. I feel like I’m taking my dog to a friend’s house. Jeff even plays the guitar for the dogs! My dog is so happy and relaxed when I pick her up. If you want your dog to be in good hands when you can’t be with them, take them to this place.

When we first visited this place, we were a little concerned that our pup may end up a pothead if we took him here. It’s such a chill vibe, we weren’t sure what to think. So we visited the huge doggy daycare down the street. Thank God there was too long of a wait list, as we ended up taking our pup to Barkside of the Moon, and we love it! Our pup adores Jeff, the «living room» environment has helped potty train him, and he’s always happy and healthy when we pick him up. Looking back, our dog gets way more love and attention here than if he was stuffed in a room with 100 other «small dogs», forced to pee on the floor all day. We really couldn’t be happier. My prior doggie daycare provider went out of business and so my dobe Louie and I started with Barkside a couple months ago… such a tranquil environment. At the other place I would pick him up at the end of the day and he would be very agitated. At Barkside he is calm and relaxed. Terrific people and fantastic day care.

I just want to thank Jeff, Lisa, and John for treating my dog Ooy like a member of your family for 3 years now… I don’t know what I would do wi the out you… thank you!

I have sat on this review for a very long time. I will start out with a few disclaimers.
This is a review on day care only. I have never owned a dog before on my own. I had childhood dogs, but the dog I have now is the first one I’ve ever been soley responsible for and yes, it is just me here so day care is crucial for me to keep a job. I am a project manager for a living. I am organized and I appreciate when my questions are answered especially when they are reasonable and concerning a living creature that I am responsible for.
I called ahead in an attempt to get to meet the owners, take a tour, provide paperwork, etc. This seemed to be the standard at all the other places I Unilocal-​ed in the city (I live in 60 640). Immediately I was brushed off on the phone — I’m busy and I can’t talk now. Ok, no worries. I understand. Is there a time to call back or come in? No. That was that. Ok I thought, maybe just a rough day? I call back the next day and ask some of the same questions and got basically the same responses. (Don’t ask me why I kept going at this point when ALL of my sensors were telling me not to). Finally, he gives in and allows me to come in. I said that I won’t have much time in the morning so anything I can do ahead of time would be great. I had taken several days off to acclimate my new dog and get a good schedule down for her. I was trying to be flexible.
I show up and he basically kicks me out again saying he is busy and I came at a bad time which was the time we agreed upon so uhhhh ok.
Once again, I don’t know why I kept going at this point but I did. I figured all the good Unilocal reviews couldn’t be wrong and everyone is totally allowed to have an off week or day or whatever.
I show up at 7 on the dot on a Monday morning. He isn’t open yet. Another gentleman and I are waiting outside, no biggie at all. Out of no where this woman walks up and takes my dog out of my hands and says sorry we’re late today. Once again, no biggie. However, this is when it goes really south. She keeps walking with my dog and I never even see where she goes. The dude basically says «I’ll see you later.» Uhhhh, do you need my papers? oh yea… sure…i guess. can you leave them? once again, why am i still standing there?! I finally had to ask, do you know which dog is even mine? he responds OH this one and points basically to the ground. I can’t see the ground dude so you could be pointing to nothing, to a dog that isn’t mine, or hopefully actually my dog. At this point he once again tells me he is busy and has to go.
Maybe people like this sort of thing. Not knowing where your pet is going. Will they get fed? Do they have a little corner to sleep if need be? Will they get water? Will she be in a room with GIANT dogs or will she get to chill with buddies her own side. I know I’m a little crazy, but these seem like reasonable questions. He never gave me the time of day. I had to send my aunt over there before work because I was scared and couldn’t get out of my meetings for the day.
Icing on the cake? When I went to pick her up the lady scolded me for tattling on her and kept repeating that they had been in business for 20 years. That’s fantastic, but this is one lady who will never step a foot nor a paw in that place ever again. I love my dog and I need to know she is safe all day. Plain and simple… if you want that. Head to Stay.

I love Bark Side of the Moon! Jeff and his crew have always taken great care of my dog. I have been super happy with how willing they have been to go the extra mile and help me out when unexpected things have popped up and I’ve needed to board my dog on short notice.

My Dog had only been in a kennel one time in her 10 years. And it was not a good experience. But I’ve heard and read about Jeff and Bark side of the moon. I’ve had my dog Annie stay there 11 days. Picked her up, she looked great. Didn’t even smell like she’s been with other dogs. And most important she was not stressed out. No side affect, like diarrhea. I will most certainly will bring her back.

Jeff and Bark Side of the Moon have been a godsend. We have a rambunctious Saint Bernard who needs some daycare or she will go NUTS (she loves ALL the dogs). We tried out another place, but after some mishaps with that business, it became clear we needed to find another spot for Lucy.
I stumbled upon Bark Side of the Moon through Unilocal,and I echo all the other five-​star reviews. Jeff and his staff (Friends? Staff?) are GREAT with the dogs. Absolutely great. They know all the pups and treat them like they are their own. Lucy goes two days a week, and our usually-​apprehensive dog loves him (she is afraid of most people, even if she has met them before).
I also love that he will board dogs, but it’s not typical boarding. It’s like she’s going to a sleepover — no cages, just hanging out with her dog friends. Great place — would highly recommend if you are looking for a doggie daycare.

Milkdud has stayed here several times when I go out of town. I know that Jeff takes good care of him, so I don’t need to worry. I love the set up, there are lots of places for ‘Dud to chill out, which happens to be his favorite activity. I highly recommend Bark Side of the Moon.

I can’t give enough kudos to Jeff! He has been so extremely accommodating with last minute requests, he is real life saver. My Dane is completely exhausted by the time she gets home after a day at Bark Side of the Moon!

After recently moving to Chicago, I had a weekend trip planned and spent quite a while researching into new dog boarding places. I settled on Bark Side and I am so pleased with my choice. Jeff is so nice and accommodating. I got back after he typically closed on the Monday and Jeff was happy to hang around a little later for me to pick up my little man! And I know, my dog can be a handful and they have the most adorable pictures from their walks as well!

After moving from Ohio and leaving a wonderful doggy daycare facility there, I was on the look for a place just as good for my high energy goldendoodle. After reading reviews on Unilocal,I took him to Bark Side of the Moon once, and haven’t looked back. I take my dog there ~2 times a week and he loves it. He gets so excited as we pull up, as he knows a day of fun is in his near future. Jeff is great, accommodating and so easy going.
After 5 years of having help from parents when I went out of town, I was no longer near the convenience of having pup go to «grandma and grandpa’s» as easily. I had never boarded my dog, and I was very nervous. I knew my pup would do just fine, it was me that I was worried about. I chose the weekend of Lollapalooza to board him for the first time. I would be in the city in case something were to happen. From the moment I dropped my dog off, I had a sense of comfort all weekend knowing that my dog was in Jeff’s care. He stayed all weekend and there were no issues. I will definitely be boarding my dog with him again, and continue taking him to daycare on the regular. What a great facility and a caring owner that really enjoys what he does.

Sadly, last week I moved away from Andersonville. Among the many drawbacks of moving away is that I now have to find a new walker and sitter for my dog. I found Jeff’s flexibility and accommodating nature to be a breath of fresh air. Sometimes my work schedule is unpredictable, and it was great to know I could count on Jeff to help out with my little buddy.

Jeff is such a sweet guy! Petunia, our very anxious beagle, has a hard time being away from home and it is really nice to know that we have someone in the neighborhood that can take excellent care of her. Jeff is so easy going and you can tell it has a very positive impact on the dogs. We have taken Petunia many places before and we always have a lot of trouble when we pick her up because she takes a couple of weeks to get back in the swing of things. Not with Jeff — she gets a lot of attention and bounces back quickly when we come home. He’s also super flexible which is awesome. Bark Side of the Moon is a great place to board your dog!

Our puppy absolutely ADORES Bark Side of the Moon. As many others have mentioned, our pup is actually excited to go visit Jeff, and is always very happy and (thankfully) very worn out after a day of playing & jamming out to Jeff’s tunes at Bark Side of the Moon. We’re moving away from the city soon, and SO sad to be losing this absolute gem of a place. Although we’ll be out in the suburbs, if we have to go out of town, we might just have to come back to Andersonville for boarding our dog, that’s how much we love this place.

Bark Side of the Moon is such a wonderful place to either take your dog for daycare or to board overnight. Jeff, the owner, is very attentive, takes requests at the last minute, plays guitar for the dogs, and just an overall pleasure to do business with.
In the last month I have taken my 3 month Golden Retriever there daily for daycare, he gets walked up to 5x per day, is now able to sleep through the night for 6 hrs straight, and has been trained to get along with other dogs, as well as, cats (mine).
Jeff charges $ 20 per day for daycare (hours are from 7am to 7:30pm) or $ 35 for overnight boarding. He only has about 15 dogs daily so providing attention to the dogs isn’t a problem. Jeff also lives above the daycare as well which is quite convenient when your running late.

Such a great place! The owner is a very sweet and nice man! I can tell he truly loves animals.
I was a bit nervous leaving my dog for the first time at Barkside of the Moon but there was no reason to worry. When I picked him up, I could tell he had a great time.
Plus, this is the most inexpensive boarder I’ve used in the city and surrounding suburbs. It was $ 35 over Christmas instead of the $ 50 I paid last year at another boarder.

I wish there were more stars to give Jeff at Bark Side of the Moon!
I have 2 ultra-​tiny Pomeranians (2 and 3 pounds), and I was very worried about leaving them with just «any old dog boarder» when we went to Mexico for a week. Because of how quickly little dogs can go downhill if stressed out or not given enough attention, I researched a lot of places, and chose Jeff because of his Unilocal reviews.
Jeff was so friendly, easy to get a hold of, accommodating, informative, and just generally nice. He gave my babies special attention like he does all the dogs, and when my boyfriend and I got back from Mexico he let us pick up the pups even though it was an inconvenience to him and the kennel was closed. We couldn’t thank him enough, because we felt we couldn’t go another minute without seeing them!
My pooches were well cared for, he looks out for all the dogs best interests, and you can tell he is a genuine animal lover. Thanks, Jeff! We’ll definitely be using you again!

After becoming a regular at this place I have to bump it to a five. Was out for a few days and my puppy didn’t want to leave.

In the space formerly occupied by Schnortzville, Bark Side of the Moon is a new doggie day care facility that caters to pooches who like lots of personal attention in a calm and comfortable environment. Jeff Hallead, a former Schnortzville employee, is now the sole proprietor.
It’s a great neighborhood resource for dog owners in Andersonville. Jeff loves every dog like his own. Daily walks are included.
