Amazing customer service. Marc and Reed here went above and beyond.

They have some stylin clothes, but WAY overpriced. The customer service isn’t great either; pretentious and insincere. However, if you’ll pay $ 175 for a pair of shorts, you might find this all very appealing.

Pretty cool men’s shop in Bucktown. Yes, like others here on Unilocal,I came here looking for Warby Parker glasses but they have a fine collection of men’s clothes as well. All the hip names in men’s clothing are represented here and most you cannot find in big department stores in the area except say for Nordstroms.
The shop itself is pretty cool. It’s small, yet airy and open and very comfortable to shop in. A place that would easily be spotlighted in an issue of GQ and Esquire (they have btw). The clothes are not cheap, but if you want to wear what all the hypebeasts are all currently wearing then that’s the price you pay.
But I did end up leaving with a pretty nice Rag and Bone sweater that was on clearance as well as a $ 5.00 off coupon on a pair of Warby Parker glasses.
Staff was very nice and helpful and I’ve have been back a couple times since. If you’re a guy who follows the trends in clothing, this is definitely a place to consider.

This place is hands down among the best stores for mens clothing in the city. I work hard and like to spend a little extra cash and attention on my appearance. It makes me feel more confident and this place stocks a well curated selection of the latest styles from quality menswear brand names. They have sales too so look online or in the sale section of the store towards the back for great deals. I like to pop in to browse from time to time and the staff is usually courteous, friendly and never trying to make a hard sale. I will continue to shop here and hope they continue to keep guys in Chicago looking good.

I’ve never been to Apartment number 9. If I’ve never been why would I dare review?

Honest to God I just got off the phone with Apartment number 9. I was looking at Warby Parker frames and saw that they where the only store in IL that sold them. I called looking for more information. Would I have to make an appointment? Do they have the women’s frames even though it’s a Man shop?
Simple question, should have gotten a simple answer. What I got was talked down too.
I’m a 25 year old with ADHD and a learning disability that leaves me stumbling over words and mixing letters and numbers up. Now I don’t expect others to magically know this. But I pronounced the brand name wrong and the woman let me know that its WARBY PARKER.
Me: Ok sorry I can never say it right
Woman who answered phone: Well its Warby Parker, just Warby Parker.
…ok I GOT IT. you only have to correct me once. I’m so sorry I upset the great knower of all knowledge.
That upset me but the lack of knowledge pushed me over the edge.

The BF and I came here mainly to look at the Warby Parker frames twice. The first time around, the sales associates weren’t very friendly and didn’t attempt to help us or ask us if we needed anything. The second time around the sales associate was more attentive. I ended up ordering glasses and the associate used my prescription to enter the order. It took about 2 weeks to receive my glasses. I guess she entered in the wrong rotation and I had to order another pair with the correct prescription. It took another week or so before the correct pair arrived. The return process was relatively easy.
Overall, the WP glasses were a good value. The attitude and service at this place could be improved.

strictly for the warby parker section:
the chick here was super helpful. i read past crappy reviews and that was not even close to what i experienced. the display was very organized and clean. i mean, it was thursday around eatin’ time, so it wasn’t crowded at all. the WP lady let me try stuff on for a bit and then helped me narrow down my options, including giving me other options i hadn’t tried yet. she was great. she even measured my pupils for me. all with the swipe of her iPad mini, i was outta there within 15 min.
i’d definitely recommend coming here instead of doing the 5 pair thingy online. maybe just come on your lunch break.

I went there to try on the Warby Parker frames, and the staff was AMAZING. Even though they were not going to be ordering on my behalf (and getting some sort of spiff, I imagine), they were incredibly helpful. One of their salespeople stayed with me, offered advice on the frames, and helped me decide on the most flattering. Will definitely be back whenever I need a present for a man in my life.

I’ve been in to Apartment Number 9 a few times and I have always had good service and found great products, but after my last trip in I figured I had to write a review. I actually didn’t even buy anything during my last trip in, but the staff was so helpful and friendly. I also love the clothes that can be otherwise hard to find in Chicago (e.g. Maison Martin Margiala)
Overall, every time here has been a great shopping experience and I love the products and the overall look and feel of the store. Definitely recommended shopping for anyone looking for (more upscale) menswear in the area

I’ll admit it, apartment number 9 has ruined me for other men’s retailers. It’s the bar with which I measure the quality and selection of menswear stores and, in Chicago, is rarely met, and has yet to be exceeded. apartment number 9 is, simply, cool.
Started by two sisters, apartment number 9 smacks of a personal-​sartorial style with attention to detail; not everything the owners buy is great, some of it is down right odd, but together, the collection is a cohesive and consistent expression of style. The store feels like the closet of a well dressed friend who has decided to let you but whatever you want off of him.
The staff is incredible, meet them once and they’ll remember you forever. I hated feeling like just another customer in Barney’s; at apartment number 9, I’m the customer.
The store hides some real gems. To the back in a small nook on southern wall there’s a locker sized wall of sale items that consistently yield some of my favorite finds. Severely marked down Rag and Bone or Save Khaki? Yes, please! Band of outsiders on sale?!? With pleasure! It’s hidden in plane sight and if you can’t find it, ask an employee, they’re super nice.
Finally, I can’t talk about apartment number 9 without mentioning Warby Parker. I love Warby, but for very different reasons than why I love apartment number 9. I used to call them high quality knock offs of Oliver Peoples, because of the high quality, fantastic style and cheap price point, but now that the Warby’s brand is well known, I really don’t need to compare them to anyone else. I like to think of Warby as a staple or basic; they’re the thing that can be done right inexpensively. The clothing of apartment number 9 on, the other hand, is comprised of «pieces,» the kind of things that were made by hand with love and attention; the kind of thing that can’t be duplicated on he fly. What makes apartment number 9 great is that it has both.
Someone once told me that in order to look your best, you should be comfortable in well made garments. You need to know what well dressed feels like before you can look well dressed. apartment number 9 is the kind of place where exploring fashion can happen, where taste can develop, and where casual shoppers or folks who want to look good and be treated right without all the fuss and pretension can get exactly what they want.

I went in there this afternoon to try on some Warby Parker glasses. I agree with the other reviewers that the display area was small, but I was the only person trying them on so it was fine for me. The sales girl was really helpful and recommended some pairs that she thought would look good on me. She also helped me decide which style I liked. Another sales girl that was in the store also asked to see and provided input, which I thought was nice. The girl wrote down the style and color I chose and gave me instructions to order them online (they aren’t doing online orders at the store yet). I also got a $ 5 off coupon. I thought they had great customer service and was very impressed.

Warby-​Parker: If you’re going here planning to get a closer look at or try on frames, don’t bother. The selection is limited — many styles from the website aren’t available at all, and the ones that are, are often shown in only one color. Nothing is labeled or organized, and the few frames I was able to try on were dirty/​smeared. Dog forbid there’s another person trying to do the same as you, since the display area is small and not conducive to a single person much less two or more. No assistance from anyone working at the store was offered (they sell clothing). Unfortunately, really disappointing all the way around.

Warby Parker. Very busy! Great spot to try on these glasses then order on line. They give you $ 5 off online order. You can buy on prescription glasses here! They have been a men’s boutique for over 11 yrs. Paul Smith, Rally, and other great brands. Street parking easy!

Extremely disappointing experience with their e-​commerce platform. Ordered a Jack Spade briefcase listed at $ 230 then get an email from them saying it actually costs $ 550. They refused to honor the original price I paid, essentially owning their mistake. Instead that burden fell on me as a customer. Very disappointing. Will not shop here again and do not recommend Apartment Number 9.

This review will only focus on the Warby Parker showcase as I went here solely to check out [Warby Parker] frames. I went on a weeknight and there wasn’t much traffic inside.
Initially, I wanted to see the frames and test them out, so that I could order a pair online. But the [Warby Parker] display and lack of organization is frustrating. Many of the frames are bundled next to each other in this small section of the store, in a smaller bookcase. In some cases, its hard to tell difference between men’s and women’s frames. Just imagine, a style has 3 color options, but they are all spread around that you have to pull a «Where’s Waldo.» There is no organization, there are no tags; I wasted time and kept picking the same discard frames in different colors every few choices.
Normally, this wouldn’t matter because there would be someone there to help your or give some advice. Not here, since its something Apartment Number 9 doesn’t really sell, nor are they optometrists or glass professionals. They can’t or won’t give advise nor help you choose a frame (well, no one came up to me and asked, nor did the sole employee there even make any acknowledgment that I existed until I asked her for a pen and paper to write some styles down.
In the end, I decided just to go to Warby Parker’s website and get a sample of 5 frames to test at home and show my friends to get their opinion. Going to the store was a little more overwhelming that I didn’t enjoy the process at all.

Worst customer service ever. Store was near empty and not even a peep. OK then! Easy review for me.

Came here to try on warby parker glasses, the ladies here were very nice and helpful to the many people trying on glasses.
If you want to come here to try on glasses, go for it! if not, warby parker does have a try on at home feature. you can pick up to 5 glasses to try on and they’re send it to you foooo freee!

Despite standing two feet from what appeared to be a few employees, in an otherwise empty shop, none could be bothered to greet me, ask if they could help me find what I was looking for, or say adiós when I walked out.
The store’s upscale charm and design warmth is put on ice by the staff.

Excellent customer service! I drove up from the SW side of Chicago specifically to try on the Warby Parker frames. Unfortunately, they had just closed early due to an unexpected emergency. The employees were still locking up and when I mentioned my long drive, they graciously reopened the store for me to browse. The ladies were extremely patient and gave me great tips on best glasses to buy. Small business owners can’t always plan for emergencies, but they can make up for it with great service. Thanks so much! I’ll be sending my husband up next!

We’ve gone in here for a long time, though not in a long time til today. I love their stuff. But the staff’s (and the owner’s) noses are stuck so high in the air they can’t be bothered with mere mortals like me.
We were spoken to when we came in, and the clerk agreed with us that we liked some pants they had. But after that, zilch. My spouse even huddled near the clerk and the owner but to no avail. I was hoping to find out what the sleeve length was on a shirt but we couldn’t get their attention. And when the owner heard from clerk that we had complained, she literally wiggled her fingers at me waving good-​bye, definitely losing a sale.
I can’t help but notice that the Unilocal reviews are more negative than not. It’s a shame that people have to be like that. I think I’m officially done with them.
