The staff in here was helpful and friendly! Selection is quite small but I’m used to shopping at the large TriBeCa store.

I have shopped at Steven Alan in NYC and was generally excited that they finally have a location in Bucktown. I think they have a great selection of clothes and accessories and I generally enjoy getting something from time to time. However, part of the experience of spending money at a store like this is the service. It should be friendly, positive and helpful. It’s a high end store and customers expect that. The woman who manages the store here however doesn’t meet that expectation in my experience. I’ve shopped there a number of times and have found her to be either less than courteous or have an air of feeling annoyed. It makes it unpleasant and uncomfortable for me as a consumer. I even noticed her making a comment to her colleague once… it seemed like it was about me but I can’t be certain.
Anyway, here’s a tip: when a customer walks into your store, whether to browse or buy, don’t act like you’re not interested in them. Even if you’re not being rude, it comes off that way. And never confer with your colleague about a customer… especially if they are still in the store and might notice.

I second an earlier reviewer in that the customer service at this location is nonexistent. I never feel the need to write about my shopping experience but this one seems to stand out. I placed a phone order for a coat last week and was pleased to receive it in a timely manner, however, much to my dismay the coat seemed to have been returned previously as it was missing a pin and the interior smelled of cologne. As soon as I received the item I placed a call to Steven Alan Chicago to rectify the situation. In my mind, an exchange for the same coat, in the same size, seemed most appropriate. The manager disagreed, her response was that she had personally packed the item and it was most certainly brand new, albeit missing a pin (which implies the item was received defective). Her dishonesty was most surprising, as the item had written markdowns on the tag. In my experience working in retail the items do not come brand new with markdowns on the tag. I phoned Steven Alan online customer service who also agreed the item needed to be «damaged out» (as one does for defective items) and replaced.

Make sure you purchase items in person so that you may inspect them inside and out.

I don’t know the name of the manager, but I can tell you he is an outstanding example of customer service! Over Christmas my boyfriend’s sister and I were trying to buy him a duffle bag, we called the store and they had it but were closing in 5 minutes. He offered to stay as long as we needed after hours so we could purchase the bag that day (an extra 30 mins). AND THEN a different time, I lost my phone in the store and I didn’t realize it. He called my friend I was with and said he would hold the phone for as long as I needed. When I got back there he had it charging for me because it was only on 5%! What a nice guy!

I must say for such a nice store I am very disappointed in how I was treated when trying to return an item that I purchased. When purchasing such expensive items one should be told in detail the return policies of the store. I wore the watch I bought for maybe 4 hours before I discovered it was not working as a $ 500+ watch should work. When I went to return it today they pretty much said too bad you should not have worn it. 1) how would I have know it wouldn’t work unless I wore it and 2) I was not even given all of the information that was supposed to be given when purchasing the watch. I am just disappointed, the watch is beautiful I just wish the experience in spending so much money was not such a bad one and I may have been treated with so respect when asking nicely to return it. I will not shop at Stephan Alan again.

I’ve been shopping at Steven Alan for a couple of years now and was surprised to see a branch opening in Bucktown. NY based clothing store that has an offering of house label subdued clothing mixed with quality brands (for guys you get Filson, Rancourt & Co, Wings + Horns, the Hill-​Side, etc). Relatively pricey clothes, but I find the quality to be great, the brands mindful (lots of American-​made) and the pieces pretty classic with some nice character. The store associates in this location are friendly and chill, good experience!
