AC Dentistry

I have been meaning to write a review for Dr. Schulhof and his team but had not had the time until now.
His office is located close to the intersection of Diversity and Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Park. I have never had a hard time finding parking near the office. There is usually plenty of street parking.
AC dentistry has been my dentist for the past 3, almost 4 years, and I have no complaints. The team always provides the best customer service and is always extremely friendly. From the receptionist to the hygienist and especially the dentist, Dr. Schulhof himself, everyone provides a 5 star dentist experience. I would recommend AC dentistry to anyone looking for a primary provider.

Dr Keith Schulhof is hands down the best dentist and runs the best practice I have ever seen. He and his staff are professional, informative and fun to work with. I also like their text message appointment reminders and my wife loves their paraffin wax hand treatment.
Bottomline, we can tell that Dr. Keith and his staff truly care about their client’s well-​being. I am grateful to have him as my Dentist. THANK YOU DR. KEITH for taking good care of my wife and I!

Dr. Schulhof might be my favorite doctor I have ever had (across all specializations)! The entire office is incredibly friendly and very homey. Dr. Schulhof remembers all of his patients individually and really gives you the attention that you need. I moved here from Ohio obviously needing a new dentist and was recommended to Dr. Schulhof. Every visit feels warm and the entire staff take great care of your teeth. Great place overall!

Came here last minute in pretty bad shape. Dr. Schulhof found the source of my problem straight away but wasn’t able to fix it at that moment due to the fact that I was a walk in and he had another appointment. That was fine by me. He prescribed me some anti-​biotics and we set an appointment for a later date. Not even an hour had passed before the office called, telling me the last appointment went quickly so they had time for me, if I wanted to come in. Of course! In about 30 minutes he eliminated the problem and the pain. Everyone there is so sweet and professional, I will definitely be coming to this office from now on.

Favorite dentist that I have been to. Always on time, staff is incredibly friendly, and Dr. Schulhof himself spends lots of time with you — he even has done my entire appointment! You can also watch whatever you want on TV during the appointment, and they give you lots of toothpaste to take home.

I have been going here for almost a year now and Dr. Schulhof and his staff are always friendly, professional and thorough. I would highly recommend them!

Dr Schulhoff office was one of the best dental experiences I ever had. Dr Schulhoff has done many different dental procedures for me. I most recently completed Invisalign with him and my teeth look great. He has fixed my cavities for me and made me a night guard a few years back also. I followed him from his old location that was downtown. I recommend all my friends who like in Lincoln Park too him.

I am very pleased with with Dr. Schulhof and his friendly and helpful staff. I’ve seen Dr. S for 5 years and just had my first cavity with him… it was great. My teeth are very sensitive and usually ache for days after getting a filling… this one didn’t hurt at all.

I moved to Chicago 2 years ago was recommended to Dr Schulhof by a colleague, generally I am sceptical when people I don’t know that well make a recommendation, but in this case they were absolutely right!
Like some of the other reviews on here I am posting this because I received an appointment follow-​up with a request to leave a comment — which unlike one reviewer (with initials AK) I have no issue with, after all we live in a digital world and I would have real concerns with a business not confident enough to use social media to get real and honest feedback from its clients. I rarely post a review, despite receiving cards and emails suggesting I leave feedback on Unilocal from many of the restaurants and businesses I use, but having read a couple of the recent reviews on here and having been so impressed by Dr Schulhof and his team I felt I needed to give my opinion — especially since I have actually been to see Dr Schulhof and am not making comments about a completely different dentist who I have never seen.
(Yelp is a fantastic resource when used correctly, but if you have NEVER been to see the person that you’re reviewing and therefore clearly haven’t seen the substantial improvements that have clearly been made PLEASE DON’T WASTE MY TIME BY POSTING TRASH COMMENTS TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL IMPORTANT. No dentist is perfect, but Dr Schulhof comes pretty close. From the moment I called to explain that I was new to Chicago and had no previous dental history to provide (I moved from abroad) I have seen nothing but a friendly, professional approach. Bernie is always friendly whether on the reception desk or answering the telephone. The first time we spoke she was more interested in finding out about me and not my insurance, which I really liked and was a great insight in to how this office works. Subsequently she ALWAYS remembers my name and nothing is too much trouble for her and although my calendar is always pretty hectic, she works with me to find an appointment that works.
When you meet Dr Schulhof you can’t fail to be impressed by his friendly and approachable personality and his professionalism. My first visit was for a cleaning and check-​up and it was great. He took x-​rays and showed them to me immediately on the screen above the chair (something I had not previously experienced), taking time to explain the good and the bad to me. I was also very impressed by the fact that he opened a new bag of instruments that had clearly come straight out of his autoclave in front of me and the whole office was spotlessly clean.
Since then I have been back 4 times, one appointment was on a day when Dr Schulhof wasn’t working but he came in especially to see me because I had lost a filling and needed to travel for work the next day. He was even friendly when he arrived! — GREAT SERVICE.
He is very progressive and is clearly investing in improving his business, both things that I think are really important when choosing a dentist and I really can’t see me going to another.
Dr Schulhof and his team are friendly and professional and are clearly committed to offering the very highest levels of patient care. I highly recommend them.

The dental practice is located in a converted 3 bedroom basement apartment on Diversey. The doors have been removed from the bedrooms and dental chairs etc have been installed instead. You’ll see the missing screws/​hinges as you walk in. There are also closets in the bedrooms (at least one of them), which appear to be filled with junk or files. It’s a shame that all the Unilocal photos were posted by the business owner since this isn’t giving the full picture, as it were. Notice that all the pictures (except the first one) were uploaded on the same day.
The equipment is old. I had Xrays taken and I noticed the manufacture date of the machine as it was being positioned up in my grill. I don’t remember the exact date but I think 20 – 30 years old is about right. At one point I needed a picture taken of something on the inside of my mouth, and the dude did it with a regular Cannon digital camera. I asked the Dr about it and he said that the commercial dental cameras cost like $ 2K, and the only difference is that they are shaped like pens, so who cares.
To be fair, I don’t think I had a particularly bad experience at this dental office. True, they lost some dental imprints once, but there were not major issues and the work I got done was fine. When I visited this place, I always saw Dr. Codell, so I can’t speak to Dr Schulhof’s skillz per se. It does seem like this practice changes hands every few years. My very first visit was with another dude who subsequently sold to Codell.
At any rate, I am fairly outraged by the bs email I got from these guys. It’s a combination of aggressive marketing and poor judgment on their part. Two qualities you want to see in your dentist… except the opposite. Also, I’d point out that Unilocal itself discourages this kind of solicitation by business owners. Evidently the Dr doesn’t care about that.
I hope AC Dentistry appreciates my hard work composing this heartfelt review. You’re welcome. And by the way, you can quit calling me every 6 months asking me to come in for an appt. It been like 3 years, I’m not coming back.

FYI, Unilocal is more than a blunt marketing tool for your low end shop. Your ham fisted attempt to manipulate the reviews for your business through this solicitation offends me.

I was asked to write a review, no problem at all. I was referred to this dentist from a close friend and immediately loved the staff and Dr. Schulhof, but I can say that I didn’t love the location. Very hard to get to and the parking sucks (but that’s Chicago, not the dental office). The dentist was very thorough and told me each step that he was going to make, unfortunately two days after getting my dental cleaning, the entire right side of my face was swollen. I had a staff infection that came from tools not being cleaned. I called about this and was told to come in to be checked out. I didn’t want to, so I visited the hospital and they gave me antibiotics for the infection. It was a terrible experience the right side of my face was swollen and I had a rash.
I wanted to give them a second chance, I scheduled a visit, but was unable to make it to the visit because of a family emergency… because I cancelled before 48 hours before… I was charged a $ 50 cancellation fee!!! Ridiculous! Needless to say, I don’t like owing the medical field anything because they love putting things on your credit– I sent them the stupid $ 50 last week.
I was going to continue business with them, but since then I haven’t gotten a return phone call when I called to schedule an appointment about four weeks ago, after calling four times and leaving voice messages. Apparently, I will be looking for a new dentist. They have my money so I guess my business is complete.

A++++++ A pluses across the board Dr. Schulhof is the BEST. He is down to earth. Extremely nice, explains everything. He is personable and sincere. Great dentistry. Great side chair manner and he keeps the pain to a 0. I highly recommend. As a patient with a lot of dental work liking your dentist is important. I can not say enough good things about him and his staff. Bernie is the office manager. This woman is top notch. Bernie is sweet, professional and will break everything down so you understand in black and white what the finances are. A refreshing team. Honest, sincere, professional and they make you feel comfortable. If you want a great dental team, that you can feel comfortable that you are getting the best care possible this is your dentist. Thank you Dr. Schulhof and Bernie. I appreciate your hard work and will continue to send my friends and family.

Dr. Schulhof is great. He is very down to earth and trustworthy. The staff is very good also. I’ve been a patient since I moved to Chicago 6 years ago.

I have been visiting AC Dentistry since I lived nearby the office some 5 – 6 years ago. Dr. Schulhof is a fantastic dentist. He is calm, friendly and easygoing, which helps you feel more relaxed in the chair. He’s also very descriptive about what will happen with each procedure. He may be the best dentist I’ve ever seen. His techs are all very friendly and competent. Bernie, the Office Manager, is absolutely wonderful and knows how to treat patients with the best service possible. I highly recommend AC Dentistry!

Since I have moved to Chicago, finding primary doctors has been tough. But, thankfully my boyfriend found Dr. Schulhof and I could not be happier.
Who really enjoys going to the dentist? Nobody actually enjoys having their gums poked or being told you need to floss more. But, I never dread my 6 month cleaning. Bernie, at the front desk is always very friendly and helpful and the rest of the staff is great. I have been there twice (once for a cleaning and once to pick up the free whitening trays they gave my bf for him referring me) and I have a scheduled appt coming up. Each time I talk to the staff, they remember my name (and my boyfriend’s name) and make me feel extremely comfortable as if they have been my family dentist since I was young. You can’t go wrong here and I highly recommend AC Dentistry.

This used to be my regular dentist for years, then I lost my job and have no dental insurance. He was a great dentist I went to for a second opinion after being told I had 9 cavities from another dentist.
Now I am trying to get back on track with the new dentist of this practice for my regular cleaning.
Good that there is a 10% discount for services for folks without insurance. Bad that there is no discount for the exam if I bring in my x-​rays, which were from my last checkup and cleaning 6 months ago at another dentist.
Good price for cleaning, bad deal if you are trying to just get a regular exam and bring in your own xrays.

Dr. Keith Schulhof is the best dentist I have ever had. This is a small practice, and everyone from the receptionist, Bernie, to the dental hygienists, to Dr. Keith is so nice and accommodating. They are prompt to respond when scheduling, whether via email or phone, and have great evening and Saturday hours for those of us who work 9−5s. I usually hate the dentist, but this office has made me want to keep my regular 6-​month checkups a priority!
I’ve gone here for teeth cleanings, check-​ups, and had a few cavities filled. All of my appointments have been on time, no wait, and always move quickly. When they do my teeth cleaning, they always take special care to clean my permanent retainer and give me special floss that I can use on it. I haven’t had any major dental work done here, so I can’t speak to that, but I would trust this staff with my teeth.
Also, just as perks, the first time I had an appointment, they gave me a paraffin wax hand treatment while I was getting my teeth cleaned; the next time I was there, Dr. Keith had brought his dog into the office, and let me pet him when I was all done. Amazing.

Dr. Keith Schulhof now runs this office and I cannot express to you how awesome him and his staff are. I really enjoyed Dr. Codel, but you are most definitely in good hands with Dr. Schulhof and his staff. Very thorough cleanings, honest, and very flexible when it comes to getting an appointment. I called one day, and apparently the day I called the office did not open until noon, because they stay open later that day. So I left a message and sent an email, and Dr. Schulhof called me back immediately and told me he could get me in that same day. It was for a chipped front tooth, so as you can imagine, I was very reluctant to get in right away and get it fixed. He did an amazing job in a short amount of time. I could not be more thankful to find this office. The nicest dental office in Chicago by far. Highly recommend.

Keith Schulhof is a cool dude and does what he can to make you happy. As much as getting work on your teeth sucks, they try and make it okay.

I went to see Dr. Codel years ago and unfortunately I had a cavity that needed to be filled.
He completely destroyed my tooth. He ground it down so much that it no longer feels normal.
He seemed more concerned with getting me to buy expensive whitening products rather than my oral hygene.
Time to move on.
