Established in 2006.

Located just north of the six-​corner intersection of Halsted, Grand, and Milwaukee, 4 Elements Salon has been combining upscale service with neighborhood warmth since it first opened its doors in 2006. The River North salon takes its name from the four elements of nature — Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Like the ancient belief that these elements comprise all matter in the universe, the four elements also are the key to the ultimate beauty and wellness experience. Fire represents power of transformation, inspiration, and creative energy — all the characteristics of an exceptional haircut, style, or color. Water, used for cleansing, healing, and purification, is reflected in the hand and nail care performed by the salon’s licensed professionals. Air also has cleansing and refreshing powers, just as facial services bring much needed oxygen to skin. Earth rejuvenates and nurtures the body with natural substances like the essential oils, minerals, organic mud, and seaweed.

I had such a great experience at this salon! I came in not knowing at all what I wanted to do with my hair… just wanting a change. Alexis was awesome! I ended up getting a cut and color (the color was a last-​minute decision and I’m so glad I did it!). I honestly have never been so happy with a haircut. Alexis walked me through how to easily style my hair (which is helpful for someone like me who doesn’t always have the patience/​time to style). She was also extremely patient with me as we figured out together exactly what I wanted to do with my hair. The salon was also very nice and my cut/​color was very reasonably priced! I will definitely be going back for my next haircut!

I stopped in last minute today, needing my roots and color done ASAP. I spend a lot of money on spa and salon services throughout the year. I get extensions done regularly, blow outs, color, etc… I have been very loyal to the person that does my extensions, have not found a good blow out and have been trying to find someone that can get my color right, bouncing between 2 people. I have gone to this salon before for blow outs and trims, but never color.
I met Alexis when I walked in and explained my dilemma and what I was looking for. She was able to take me when I walked in, which was a godsend. She took me to her chair and proceeded to ask me more questions to really understand what I was looking for. This was the first time, in a long time, that someone actually gave me a true consultation. As we discussed it more, she was able to understand what I was looking for. Previously, I’m sure I was not articulating it correctly, this is partly my fault and mostly the stylist fault. Part of a stylist job is to consult with you to truly understand what you want. I was reminded of that today and left the salon very happy. I also was pleasantly surprised when I wasn’t charged a ridiculous amount, like other places, which added to my positive experience.
I could tell that Alexis truly enjoys what she does, she explained the continuous education they do (which was apparent), she walked me through my options and she did an awesome job. She just got a new client!

My favorite salon! Maggie is the best and always knows what great things to do with my hair even when I’m not entirely sure what to do. I always walkout feeling like a million bucks! Easily the best salon in Chicago, certainly the best in River West. Also the prices are way more reasonable than any other salon in the area.

I think this salon has the foundations of being great with a beautiful space and fantastic product lines lines like my beloved Oribe, but my manicure and pedicure were so strange. I really liked my technician, I think her name was Sarah, but I’ve never had a manicure or pedicure where they don’t apply a basecoat when using regular nail polish. I think everyone knows that if you apply polish directly to the nail, it will show ridges and appear super super thin! It won’t have a glossy richness or smooth appearance. That’s what happened here, and the polish I chose from CND was a classic blue red but it was a manicure I could’ve done at home for free. I paid $ 60 for my mani and pedi excluding tip. I wouldn’t go back. what a disappointment.

Best salon ever!!! I was referred by a friend and had my hair colored by Agnes, the owner!!! I had been doing it myself and it was a mess! In just a couple of visits my hair feels like hair again! I recently had a cut and it was one of the best I have ever had!!! I am getting a keratin treatment soon and cannot wait!!!

I had the WORST experience ever. I went for a brazilian wax with Sara as purchased a groupon. As I stepped in, The receptionist redeemed my groupon and I was guided to one of the spa rooms and Sara asked to undress so she can do the brazilian. Then she comes in the room and says that they cannot honor the groupon price since I am not a first time client and to proceed I will have to pay an extra 35 $ on top of 30 $ paid for the groupon. I found the attitude and behavior of Sara very disrespectful and unprofessional that I am never going to go to that salon ever. They could have told me about this before asking me to undress. It is so RUDE and indecent. I live in the same community so have used them for some of the services before but from my experience last nite, it was certainly my last visit. I dont think this business is worth my single penny. They really need to work hard on their customer dealing especially in this highly competitive Chicago market.

I have been going to Four Elements for many years now. I love this place. Ricky is masterful. Since going red 4 ½ years ago, people that I meet all think I’m a natural redhead. I always say, «What God didn’t give me, Ricky does!» Sara does an awesome job with nails and waxing. My manny’s with her last a good week. I have recommended friends to go here and all have been happy they did.

I’ve been coming here since the salon opened; loved it then and love it now. I followed my esthetician here from another salon since Iryna works magic on my bushy eyebrows.
They carry one of the best skin care lines (Yonka) I’ve ever used. I was also able to find a wonderful stylist, Timothy, whom I’ve been going to for at least 6 years now. He does a great job with my hair cuts and color and always leaves me laughing.
This salon is like one of my second homes in the neighborhood and if it wouldn’t seem weird, I’d probably go in there to hang out even when I didn’t have appointments. The fire place and refreshments make it easy to get comfortable while waiting for your color to process.

Today was my first time here and I loved it. I called in the morning and they squeezed me in right away, adjusted my mani/​pedi to «express» so that my appointment would not interfere with the next appointment. This was not a problem for me, I actually thought it was a very considerate of them for the clients. My mani/​pedi was with Sarah and she was really great. I enjoyed every minute chatting with her and she did a great job. The entrance to the salon is where people can get their hair done and then you go through a glass door to the serene spot where im guessing all the other spa services are performed. It was really relaxing, as opposed to places that are all connected and you end up leaving with a headache from all the noise. I will definitely be going back for more services!

Went here for body services (not hair) and was very impressed. Been going to the same person for almost 10 years, and after she had switched salons for the 4th time I decided I was done and needed to find a spot more convenient for me instead of her.
Their ad on Milwaukee Avenue has 25% off for first time customers, so I checked it out and will continue to go back. The salon is well designed, clean, and modern. There is no pressure to buy «extras» like products, and there’s a nice selection of coffee, teas, etc. while you wait. Top notch and excatly what I look for in a Chicago salon.

Congrats Ashley, now senior stylist!
I’ve been going to Elements for a few years now, and that’s saying a lot. I’ve tended to hop around, but once Ashley started cutting my hair I stuck around. She is terrific, has a wonderful attitude, and is super efficient. I have very fine hair that is not forgiving at all, and she always makes sure it looks the way I want it before I leave (it always does). Plus, no hard sell on the products (I’m a low maintenance gal).
The salon itself has a welcoming atmosphere, for both men and women They serve wine in the evenings, and they have a fireplace in the waiting area, although I’ve never waited for more than five minutes.
The online appointment feature is great too! I highly recommend.

Tim is amazing.
I have thick, curly, frizzy, difficult hair. I came in yesterday to receive a Brazilian Blowout and a haircut (I was 6 months overdue for a trim). I had an idea for what I wanted my hair to look like and I showed Tim some pictures for inspiration.
Not only did my hair turn out EXACTLY like the pictures, Tim was a delight for the 3.5 hours I sat in his chair getting everything done. He was so fun to talk with and the best part is that he TAUGHT me the correct way I should be blow drying, flat ironing, and curling my hair. I have been to many, many high end salons and never have I had a stylist actually teach me how to do my hair at home!
I will for sure be back and you know without a doubt I will be scheduling my appt with Tim.

Ask for Tim! He is the best!
I’ve went to many high end salons in the chicago area (Michael Anthony, Sean Patricks, Mixed Co, act… the list goes on) and this is the best salon in Chicago.
Tim gives a consultation and listens to what you want. He also asks you about your hair care and gives you helpful tips. He will not fry your hair like many other stylists do to clients who want highlights.
I had a great experience here and will be making this my regular salon. My search has ended!

I’ve been meaning to post a review for a LONG time but just never got around to it.
Well here I am, 10 months later after my bangs finally grew out. I saw Rebecca back in February for the second time and wanted an overall trim but still something a little ‘different’ this time. I decided I wanted side bangs and expressed to her that my hair has a hard time staying a particular way because it’s so straight. She told me that if she put a shorter layer of bangs under my side bang, it might hold…
She completely chopped off my bangs. I was TERRIFIED. My face showed it too. I said «Oh.I wasn’t expecting you to cut them that short». And she replied with «Well, it’s hair, it will grow out.» I was in disbelief and tried to hide my anger.
I didn’t even know how to feel for the rest of the haircut. I think I almost cried. I had one layer of short bangs way above my eyebrows and another layer of bangs that were supposed to be ‘side bangs’. I’ve never seen this ‘look’ before and couldn’t tell if she even meant to do that or not to my hair.
I checked out and paid, and the front desk lady didn’t even ask about my service and if I liked me haircut. In fact, she was kind of rude.
Needless to say, I will not be going back here.

I thought my hair was hopeless. I’d abused it so much with chlorine, swim caps, pulling it back in ponytails/​buns for marathon training, that I literally had a line of breakage around my head. Disgusting.
Given that Great Clips is my normal stylist (and knowing that they couldn’t fix this mess), I jumped on the Rue La La deal to 4 elements. And I’m so glad I did.
Rebecca was an absolute delight and did an amazing job with my poor damaged hair. After studying my strands, and listening to me plead not to cut it all off, she managed to salvage my hair AND keep it past shoulder length. It looks fabulous, and I can’t speak highly enough of her and the fantastic job she did.
Basia did a great job with my manicure, though I did manage to chip it a day later. But I’m sure that was from swimming, bootcamp class, and softball practice. There’s a reason I don’t get my nails done.
Everyone at the salon was extremely welcoming and friendly, and offered advice afterwards on hair products, etc. (without trying to sell me on anything).
I think I may pay for a real haircut like a big girl from now on. And 4 elements will be the place.
