I recently had a color correction appointment with Megan after a humiliating ombré-​gone-​wrong at another highly rated Chicago salon. I expected her to look at the bottom third of my long hair — bleached yellow, uneven, and spotty — and tell me that it would be impossible to fix, that the only option I had to was to chop it off.
Somehow, she completely saved my hair. After a few hours of wizardry (highlights, lowlights, toner, snipping the ends), my hair looked natural again, and actually not far off of the «goal» photo I had showed to the original stylist. Overall, an extremely positive experience. Will definitely be returning!

This is a five star salon experience.
I came here after another highly rated salon in Bucktown on Damen near the expressway destroyed my hair.
When I say destroyed I mean bleached it out to oblivion when we simply discussed all over honey blonde color, only to have me go back later on (two more trips later) to the owner who couldn’t figure out how to color the roots. The owner who Instead of bleaching the roots just places high potency color on the roots so then I had this sweet looking discolored line on my head. Seriously disaster. So the first time I had purple lavender white hair like Olivia Clarke in Game of Thrones to more spot on color but then with a weird line on my head where they were inept at matching their work from the prior time. Overall a nightmare on all 4 visits. I will never return but I also won’t post a Unilocal review on them because they immaturely attack their clientele and Unilocal reviewers who post.
Needless to say I searched long and hard (Instagram, Facebook, calls to salons to speak with their receptionists, Unilocal,etc) to find a salon that utilized high quality products, employed talented and competent stylists, and wasn’t downtown. Voila! Mane Salon fit the bill.
I first came in for a quick consult with Lauren so she could assess the landscape and deploy a strategy for how to tackle our next appointment.
They squeezed me in a couple weeks later and I was at the salon for about three hours, which is usually pretty standard for me. She fixed my hair and did a reverse balyage where instead of painting in blonde she painted in brunette to fuse with my already blonde ends. It turned out a little darker on top than I would have liked (my roots are coming in and are a little lighter) but very close.
Overall I recommend this salon, the people who work here know what they are doing (it amazes me how many people call themselves stylists but are completely color inept). I would continue to come here if I lived in Chicago– you’re in good hands with all of the stylists here. The environment of the salon is also really nicely done and they play relaxing non-​club music.

Jesse cuts my hair (not to mention the hair of almost all of my closest friends — both male and female) regularly and, as far as I can tell, he is pretty much a wizard when it comes to cutting and styling. He always takes time to discuss the best options for your specific hair type and it is very apparent that he has a genuine passion for what he does because he speaks about hair with expertise, knowledge and enthusiasm akin to that of a seasoned somelier discussing fine wine. Every time one of my friends goes to see him for the first time, they always receive tons of compliments on their new do… which is why so many of them have become regular clients of his. Jesse is professional, meticulous and truly skilled, and I always feel like he puts a lot of thought and effort into every haircut. Oh, and he also uses the best products — and always has great recommendations. Basically, I can’t say enough good things about him and I will continue to recommend him to everyone who asks me if I know a good stylist.

The wonderfully talented and personable Lauren gave me an all over color, partial balayage, and a trim to my layers last week and I couldn’t have left the salon any happier! Sometimes I’ve found that hair stylists can be overbooked and a little frantic at other places, but Lauren took every measure to make me feel like I was treating myself and I never felt rushed.
All of the staff there seemed both really dedicated to their jobs and laid back, which you don’t find very often. I’ve been to many salons in the city, but I think I’ve found my spot :)

I’ve always been super picky with my haircuts and haven’t been satisfied with the last few that I’ve gotten. I went in yesterday and the receptionist was so friendly and made me a coffee. Danielle made me feel super comfortable the second I sat down and gave me the best cut I’ve gotten in years! The girl who washed my hair was also very personable and nice to talk to. I’m sad Danielle is moving soon but she recommended a few other stylists there, I can’t wait to go back!

Got my hair cut by Jesse last week and had a great experience! I told him I was thinking about bangs. Jesse made sure he knew exactly what I wanted, but also that I knew exactly what I was asking for (how I would style it, the texture of my hair.etc.) When he was finished with the cut, he took the time to blow it out and straighten it before doing some detailing. The end result was amazing! I LOVE my hair and will be back in a few months for my next cut.

Rachel A is amazing! I came in with 4 month outgrown highlights and hip length, stringy ends and she sent me out with beautiful, fresh blonde locks. She was friendly and personable and really made my experience enjoyable. My hair tends to take a very very long time to do due to its length and tangles and even though my appointment ran into her next appointment, she never made me feel rushed. The salon was cute and clean, and I loved the way my hair looked when I left. Thanks Mane and thanks Rachel A!

Usually get my hair done in California, but was in Chicago for an very extended amount of time and couldn’t go on much longer without a touch up.
Had been researching color stylists in the Internet for weeks because I’m so protective of my hair! Found Galina and was so excited to get started.
This salon requires consultation before the color and I always appreciate that so the stylist isn’t going in blind and I can actually feel comfortable with what is happening to my hair. I got a hair cut the same time which was nice. They do a de stress massage and it’s amazing. Cut included a blow out, and all together was around $ 60. Not bad.
I came back about a month later for the actual color because Galina was taking time off for vacation. When the day came, the process was very simple. She started painting on the balayge and I just waited to be amazed. I loved what she did to my hair, but do take note, the color only is what is being charged, which for Galina js $ 200. There is no hair drying/​styling including. If you’d like to add that, it’s an EXTRA $ 50. They did tell me this upfront, and I did it, because why go get our hair colored to leave the salon looking like a wet dog? I mean, what if you didn’t like the results and couldn’t see until you got home?
What I did notice as well was Galina does a very basic blow dry. Just brushing the hair straight with a flat brush and blow dry. No big round brush, styling or anything. She also VERY quickly ran my hair through a big barrel curling iron (she said she’s so against flat irons) but it was so quick, my hair didn’t hold at all, and fell pretty straight as soon as she finished. Which is odd Because I have thick curly hair and usually holds curls very well. Definitely NOT worth the extra $ 50 in my opinion. I was pretty upset about the lack of effort on that part.
I also felt for the amount of bleaching she did to my hair, she could have offered s conditioning treatment, but it wasn’t. Oh well I guess.
Beware of parking, it sucks. I was searching for 30 minutes before I came in.
I probably wouldn’t come back here just because I feel like I get more with my usual salon in California. Which in reality, if you’re spending over $ 200 on a hair color (which I also do in California) I feel a blow out and style should definitely be included.

Absolutely love this salon! Moving from Lakeview to the West Loop in February, so decided to find a new salon. I’m very picky when it comes to my hair but like anything that’s not my expertise, I want to be able to trust the stylist I’m going to fully. After reading some other Unilocal reviews and looking at the pictures provided, I decided I was going to make an appointment with Jesse. From the moment I got there they were super sweet. Offered me bottled water, helped me figure out where to park, and just overall friendly vibes from everyone working there. The décor is beautiful.
I met Jesse and loved him from the beginning! He is SO personable and really fun to talk to! I could have sat there all day talking to him! But on to my hair! My hair was super long and I decided I wanted a big change. I wanted a shorter cut and I had a specific idea in mind. He sat and explained everything to me so I felt super comfortable with what he was about to do! Let me tell you, he did an AMAZING job! I absolutely love my new cut! I’ve already received so many compliments from everyone I’ve seen today! I’m so thankful to have found Jesse and this salon! He is amazing, the people are super friendly, the salon is so clean, and it was just an overall great experience! Can’t wait to go back!

Jesse was amazing! Bottom line if you want a great hair cut than you HAVE to go to Mane and you HAVE to go to Jesse. I had so many bad experiences and botched cuts that I never wanted to get my hair cut. After doing some research and seeing my jesse’s work I made the appointment and I couldn’t be happier. His attention to detail and precision are superb and he can take tackle almost any hair type. (Specifically, he took my thin hair and made it look fuller without compromising the length I wanted)
Okay so do yourself (and your hair) a favor and make an appointment with Jesse. You won’t be disappointed! :)

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Galina @ Mane Salon for a few years and she is just the best. My husband gets his hair cut by her, and she also did my hair on my wedding day. Just recently, she did a balayage color to my hair and it turned out beautiful. She is such a hardworking, upbeat, motivated person and an extremely knowledgeable artist. She takes her time with her work and is proud of her talent. We consider her a friend and someone we trust. I also had Rachel A. help with my bridesmaids on my wedding day and she did a wonderful job as well — both Galina & Rachel have a talent for creating naturally beautiful up-​dos.
The management takes great pride in their business and it shows. I can tell you all of the stylists are really talented from going there and seeing their work over and over again. Mane Salon is a cutting edge, beautifully unique space located in the heart of an up-​and-​coming neighborhood. We love that this salon calls West Town/​Riverwest home because they bring such a great vibe to the area.

I went to Mane Salon because I have been going to the same stylist in my home town for the last 15 years and just can’t make the journey out there for a haircut all the time.
I am super picky about the styling and cut of my hair, but needed to get my hair done on this day. I was assured I’d be in good hands with Tiffany.
Tiffany did an amazing job! She really took the time on my hair and styled it so simple but it was perfect!
I will definitely be returning as the customer service was excellent as well!

Galina is simply spectacular! She worked on my hair and I have to say that she did a remarkable job. She is professional in every sense of the work.

Before I even start my review, just call already and book an appointment! Ha. Seriously, though, this place is magic.
I have long, thick, dark brown hair that’s naturally wavy and I had been wanting to get Balayage for some time now, but deciding who to trust with my hair seemed like an impossible task! So I checked on Unilocal and could not believe the praise Mane got, especially with their stylists abilities for Balayage. So I called and made an appt with Lauren and oh my goodness… best thing I ever did.
I had never been to Mane before or to any of the stylists, and I went in for a (complimentary) consultation to meet Lauren and talk about what I wanted to do with my hair. Right away we hit it off and in those fifteen minutes of talking with her I learned so much about color and balayage and how it works and what expectations to have for my own hair. She was so lovely and friendly and knowledgeable and it just felt like a perfect match. (And the salon itself was so beautiful and open and had such a cool feel about it.)
A few weeks later I went in for my cut and balayage and I left feeling like a million bucks. I’ve always had dark hair, which I’ve loved, but I was ready for a change and really wanted a blonde, beachy feel to it for summer and I really could not be happier. My hair looks AMAZING and I thought I might freak out a bit to have it look so different but I just love it so much. (So much!) I get a million compliments and seriously, I just could not be happier.
And aside from how talented and awesome Lauren is, the entire staff at Mane was just incredibly lovely. Everyone there made me feel so welcome and comfortable. Who knew spending four hours in a salon could be so fun!

I’ve know Galina for 8 years. She is very professional, always consistent, and knowledgeable. This sweet, funny girl change my life the first year by changing my hair color from black to a platinum blond and cutting it short. I became a complete different person! Slowly I brought all my relatives and friends to her, so she is our family stylist now :) I don’t know how she works her magic, but she’s the best at making me so stylish, I get tons of compliments on my haircut!!!
Overall, the staff at Mane Salon are very friendly, welcoming and talented! And omg!!! That rustic style of the place is amazing, and makes me feel vey comfortable. Prices are reasonable for the level of quality.
Highly recommend to all who’s looking for a great place with amazing service!

This was my first experience at this salon and my goodness was it just what I expected! Lauren was my wonderful stylist and I couldn’t have been more happy to have stumbled upon her. She was inviting and wonderful to talk to — we chatted the whole time and laughed, which made me feel comfortable.
Aside from that, let’s focus on the hair. She did an AMAZING balayage. What made me feel the best was that she took her time (3 hours) to perfect everything. I left the salon feeling rejuvenated and beautiful! I have never written a review, but Lauren’s talent and bright personality sparked me to do so.
The only thing that hits ya is the price… but hey, sometimes you just need that extra pampering and I promise you it’s worth every penny!

So I have naturally really dark hair, and went blondish with darker roots about two years ago. I got a little too cocky in my at home hair toning skills, and *shocker* completely ruined my hair. The entire top of my hair was a horrendous orangey color and the bottoms (lightest part of my hair) turned silver with a green tint. Literally as soon as I dried my hair, I stalked top rated Chicago salons (wanted to try a new stylist, my current one was always way too rushed throughout the appointments and gave me anxiety) and chose Mane Salon. I booked my appointment and was told the stylist’s name was Tiffany.
She. Is. Amazing! On my first visit, she completely fixed my hair back to what it was before, but I wanted to bring the blonde up a bit higher. We did a partial balayage, touch up, hair cut, hair treatment, and blowout. It ended up being a bit pricey but I mean, I was getting the works done, completely understandable. She worked on my hair for almost 4 hours and was so great about everything. When we finished, we both agreed that the newly pre-​lightened parts of my hair weren’t as ashy as we would like, but very pretty nonetheless. I made a second appointment for two weeks later to get more ashiness in.
Two weeks later, Tiffany does her magic and I kid you not she did not let me leave that salon until I was completely and fully satisfied with my hair. My hair has never felt and looked so healthy before, and the color is spot on. I’ve been getting non stop compliments on my hair, and that makes me lover her even more lol
I will definitely be coming back to her, I can’t stop recommending her and Mane Salon enough.

When you are looking for a new hair stylist, sometimes it’s like playing the lottery. And if that is the case, I won big! :) For over a year now, I have been getting my hair cut by Jesse at Mane Salon. I have very long hair that can be complex. It is fine, yet coarse and wavy but there is a lot of it! Jesse is an artist– he gives me layers that fall perfectly and blend so well — I feel like I never have a bad hair day. He is meticulous, and each time he cuts my hair, he is very attentive to all of the details– trying to make sure that I am happy, while also using his expertise to get the cut just right. He is obviously a master of his craft, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great cut!
I must also tell you about Sheri Cox, or as I like to call her «My eyebrow guru.» Sheri took my eyebrows from fine to face enhancing! It does require a bit of patience, but my brows are now fuller, and to be honest it was much easier than I expected to get to a place where I have no makeup on and I just love the way my eyebrows look. Trust her. She is REALLY good at knowing exactly what your brows should look like, and then she will make them look that way.
And then there is Nico. Nico did the Bayalage on my hair back in October, and she took such care to make sure that my hair looks sun-​kissed and totally natural. She takes such great care of all of her customers too. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Mane Salon!

Galina is the fairy godmother that can make all of your Pinterest dreams come true.
I heard about her through a friend, who’s hair I envied, because I desperately needed to get my highlights touched up.
I walked into the gorgeous salon and sat down with Galina, who asked if I had pictures of what I wanted. I came completely unprepared, so I just said I wanted a balayage to accentuate my natural blonde hair. And with only that, she got to work.
Galina is everything I was looking for in a long term hairstylist. She fun to talk to, which makes time fly, and she is absolutely meticulous and takes her time painting your hair. Literally, she paints it like an artist.
After she was done, I had Victoria’s Secret bombshell hair. Seriously, we’re talking likes on Instagram for days and men stopping on the streets to stare.
What’s even more impressive is that three months have passed since I got my hair done and it still looks amazing. She purposely blended the highlights in a way that gives a low maintenance color that doesn’t show roots!

For half a year I was toying with the idea of getting my hair balayaged. Being a hair virgin and all, the thought of dyeing my hair not only excited me but made me downright nervous/​paranoid to find the perfect salon to do my hair. After months of research and reading millions of Unilocal reviews about various salons, I chose Mane for their consistently amazing reviews. I couldn’t be happier that I did!
1. Galina did my cut, color and style. She’s absolutely fabulous. She was great to talk to, very educated on their products and answered all my questions. She listened to what I wanted and executed it perfectly! (Check out my before and after picture I posted) ever since I posted that picture on Facebook, over 8 of my friends have asked me where I got my hair done!
2. I also had my eyebrows waxed by Sherri. At first I was very scared because I’ve been getting my eyebrows waxed by the same person for years, but change sometimes is great! I read so many amazing reviews about Sherri that I couldn’t pass it up and honestly, I felt as though my eyebrows were the best ever after her appointment! She really knows how to perfect my eyebrow shape! She’s literally is the best in Chicago!
3. The salon itself is absolutely beautiful. You should just go and see it because it is that gorgeous. Whoever designed the interior, props to them! Every detail is beautiful.
4. They use MorrocanOil and Kerastase products which are both absolutely amazing! I have been using MoroccanOil products for years so it was great to go to a salon that uses them consistently.
All in all, if you’re looking for a fabulous salon, definitely go here, it’s the best in Chicago!
