Vito’s In the Valley

I was really excited to try it, maybe that’s where we went wrong. My wife being gluten free means we have few options. Yes, that’s our fault, not theirs.
We had dinner at the bar on a Saturday night. The service was very good (⁸⁄₁₀), the atmosphere was good (⁶⁄₁₀), but the food was just okay (⁴⁄₁₀). It wasn’t bad, but I would never order what I had again. That, to me, is disappointing. Maybe I need to try some of the other menu items… and I will.
The salad was covered in oil, with almost no flavor. Our pasta was interesting, but had to be sent back and fixed by the kitchen. It was forgettable.
The wine list was nice, with good value bottles for sale.
I’ll come back again and try something better. Stay tuned for an update.

If you are a Margarita pizza connoisseur like I am, this is not where you want to order one. It was the worst I’ve had. On the plus side, the décor and wait staff were pleasant. I will try again for salad and/​or pasta.

Our server seemed spread a little too thin, I noticed errors for us and other tables in her section.
My husband and I both ordered the «special» strip steak with 3 mushroom medley and Brussels sprouts/​roasted red potatoes. We were not asked the temperature of the steak and they both came out rate-​med rare, which is far too undercooked for us. Also, we received no sides with our meals.
When they came back, my husband’s was better but as I started eating mine only about 25% was edible meat, the rest was fat and connective tissue. I gave three stars only because we said something about it and she had it removed from our bill. For $ 33, I would expect to be able to eat more than 25% of my dinner.
The potatoes and Brussels sprouts were excellent.
I don’t know if we just ordered the wrong thing or were here on a bad night. I am up in the air about whether or not we will return.

Vitos in the valley is amazing! The food is top notch and the happy hour has great prices for the items you can order! Bar tenders are attentive and friendly! Come check them out for dinner, you won’t be disappointed.

Great service wonderful food. Had the lamb it was fall of the bone good. My date and I split one meal, salad, lamb, ap, and we’re stuffed. Also Unilocal had a free wine with check in. My date said it was very good. It is elegant mom and pop establishment

Decided to try out Vitos for the first time last night and I have to say it was my best decision of the New Year. My wife and I walked into a packed restaurant without a reservation and were seated immediately in the bar. Our server Corey was great he had great wine and menu knowledge. We ended up taking his recommendation of wine and got a bottle of Trinchero Meritage. This is now my favorite wine. We ended up ordering two of their specials. I got the sea bass and she got the Ciopino. Both were amazing. Everything about this experience was phenomenal. We will definitely be back.

So I gave a 3 but probably shouldn’t have been a 2. There wasn’t anything horrible but the entire experience was below expectaions. Food was all ok but nothing great. Found chicken in our mussels. They brought us the wrong bottle of wine and poured it. Not a place I will go back to

Tried out Vito’s for the first time last night and was less than impressed.
The pros: I really like the space, the bar has lots of cocktail tables and the dining room is comprised of a variety of tables with high ceilings. Our server was pleasant, but definitely lacked in good serving qualities. The complimentary bread is delicious and served warm.
The cons: we ordered a bottle of the Vietti barbera – one we are familiar with and it’s usually between $ 40-​$ 50 depending on where you go. She brought a bottle of barbera out and I told her that label was not one that I recognize so I grabbed the menu and again pointed to her the one I ordered, a $ 46 bottle of Vietti barbera, she said yes, this is it. Tastes fine, so we stuck with it. After we were almost done with our first glass, she comes over to tell me that she actually poured me a $ 90 bottle of wine. I should have known better but after double confirmation, I thought it was okay. She took the bottle away and came back to say the manager said he would give it to us for $ 55…fine. We started with the mussels, they were pretty tasteless and though the menu points out a spicy tomato broth, there was little to none. And interestingly enough, we found a piece of chicken in a mussel shell. Weird. We then split a Caesar salad, usually those are hard to mess up, but this one was over dressed and flavorless. For our entrée we split the rack of lamb special encrusted in bread crumbs. Nothing special about this dish, it wasn’t bad but I’ve had much, much better. I was surprised the manager never made an appearance, particularly after the wine. Not sure we will be back anytime soon. 3 stars was a stretch. There wasn’t anything horrible, just not a memorable experience with bland food.

My daughter, mother and I had an amazing dinner here! The Christmas décor was absolutely beautiful! You can tell there was time and attention put into decorating the restaurant for the holidays. We had a reservation and were seated promptly upon arriving. Our server was excellent and very attentive throughout the entire dinner.
The food arrived very quickly and was hot and DELICIOUS! My mother had the Penne Ala Vodka and she raved about how good it tasted. I had the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly (I eat salmon all the time and places tend to over cook it). My daughter had Fettuccine Alfredo which by name is a very simple dish but my 8 year old LOVED it. The warm bread they bring to the table is yummy as well.
Over all a great dinner! I noticed the owner walking around chatting with all the tables and making sure everyone was happy! Now a days you just don’t see that. Hard to even find a manager at the local chain restaurants. Will definitely be back to Vito’s sooner than later! Great job to the staff and owners!!!

Pizza with a side of philanthropy!
Not only is Vito’s my favorite place to go for Happy Hour in Chesterfield Valley ($ 2 beer and $ 5 apps? Yes please!), but the owners have hearts of gold as well. When the cook at their son’s preschool came down with an aggressive form of cancer, the owners stepped up and threw an amazing event at Vito’s. They went above and beyond their call of duty by setting up buffets, silent auctions, and raffles for the cause, all while still operating a normal Wednesday night dinner service. The event was a huge success and it was in large part due to Vito’s. A place that is willing to turn their business upside down to help someone in need, is a place that deserves your patronage. $ 5 glasses of wine don’t hurt either.

Took my lady here for a romantic ambience on a Friday night, very classy with first rate service. He just had a couple of drinks and some appetizers but they were all delicious and Vito’s made for a great date. This was my second time here, the last time was for lunch on a Sunday and there was some chill live music and again the service was top notch and the pizza was awesome. If your in the valley check it out, good prices for the quality of food and service.

THE BEST service we have had in a long time. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations that fit our tastes. The food for each course was fantastic. In fact, my wife went off the menu to order an asparagus risotto, which was great. The server made it seem like such as request was par for the course. The owner was very involved with the staff and patrons. An excellent overall dinner.

Found this place on Unilocal.Italian is my favorite so it wasn’t a difficult decision to try it.
I stopped in at 5:15 on a Wednesday. It wasn’t too busy. Sat in the bar area and ordered a Manhattan. I usually order it ‘up’ but forgot. Still enjoyed it. The bartender did great.
I ordered an appetizer, then dinner and wine. The appetizer was for two. Nothing special about it. I ordered fettuccini with chicken for dinner. Portion was about right for one. Nothing extra special about the Alfreda sauce. It was good, but nothing over the top. The mix of pasta to sauce was perfect.
The wine was a Malbec that had good legs and nose. A glass went down easy.
My total was $ 23 since it was happy hour. That’s a good price for the food and drinks I ordered.
I will stop by again on my next trip.
I gave it three stars for the dinner with an extra star for the atmosphere.

I already know I will back to Vito’s In The Valley. I was eating a low-​carb diet the night I came here with the International Supper Club. That was a big mistake on my part, I should have just bitten the bullet and cheated. The pizzas and pasta dishes served to the other diners, looked and smelled amazing.
I started out with Pepata di Cozze, which was mussels with capers, red pepper, onion, basil and garlic tossed in a spicy light tomato sauce. I love me some mussels and these were tasty enough to earn a special spot on my Unilocal list for mussels. If I had a list for great value, they’d be on that one as well. I couldn’t believe they were only $ 10.
For my entrée I ordered off their special Valentine’s Day Menu and had, IInsalata di Aragosta. It is a lobster salad prepared with butter lettuce, mango, avocado, julienne beets and carrots with Champagne Vinaigrette. I was totally disappointed. It was skimpy on all ingredients and the dressing was a bland vinaigrette. It is not worthy of a place on my Sensational Salads list.
The service was outstanding. Our server was very attentive as was his assistant. The table was set with linen napkins and fresh-​cut roses, adding to the ambiance of an elegant Italian dinner.
I’m coming back to for sure to enjoy a pizza or Linguini Tutto Mare, which is my favorite pasta dish.

It was a great group last night.
Service was spectacular. Owner came by to visit, as I understand he’s quite familiar with Ben S. and Charleen S., who are frequent patrons.
The bread is just too-can’t-turn-it-down good. Owner (Gio?) said it was made from their pizza crust.
Now I’m going to have to get a pizza there. Holy cow were those rolls unique, dense, almost meaty. I used butter on mine. But we also had olive oil and balsamic on the table for dunking.
I was kinda not paying so much attention to what anybody ordered.
I got the Antipasto Salad ($ 5): Tossed mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, onions, cucumber, Kalamata olives, Focaccia croutons, mozzarella cheese, House Italian dressing.
It was so good and a great price for such a lovely salad. I do so love cherry tomatoes and Kalamata olives.
Entrée: I just have to say, I perused the online menu for days in advance to decide. Torn. Torn. Torn. So many good-​sounding offerings. Pizza. Pasta. Entrée.
I wimped out and got something I’ve had other places. Yes, familiarity breeds…
Linguini Tutto Mare ($ 20): Clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp, scallops, tomatoes, crushed red pepper, garlic, mushrooms in white wine sauce.
It was a solid dish, and I’ve never actually had to extract mussels from their shells. But I did it, and they were lovely, not rubbery.

I had a great to-​go vessel of my entrée, and I asked for some additional bread, and they gave me a boatload, which I’m still enjoying.

Ms T and her sister had been to Vito’s in the Valley, and greatly enjoyed their lunch. This was my first visit. We grabbed a very good 2000 Barolo and went with a LivingSocial coupon that was going to expire soon. Vito’s corkage is $ 15 and they use good wine glasses. They are a participant in AAdvantage Dining.
We always have to start with Fried Calamari in a place like this. They did a good job on it. It was crispier than some places, which made it a little rubbery, which Ms T likes. It is garnished with a good creamy, garlicky sauce and served with a little arugula. I am going to miss the Calamari at Wildhorse Grill, but this was fine.
Ms T was really hungry for simple spaghetti, so ordered the Spaghetti con Polpette (meatballs). The sauce is marinara, so if you want meat, you need the meatballs. This was good, but not spectacular. The marinara is sweeter than we prefer but not as sweet as many St Louis places. It is also applied in excess. The pasta was properly cooked, then sauced. It is then placed into an elongated serving dish and a lot more sauce is ladled on top. It is at least double what is needed. If you want good spaghetti in the Valley, I would recommend Filippo’s.
I was tempted by a Swordfish special, but decided I wanted chicken. I ordered their Spiedini de Pollo which is served Florentine style. This is a stuffed chicken breast, not skewered cubes as normal. I’m not sure what makes this spiedini, but I really liked it. It was well flavored, cooked just right, not dried out. All of the flavors worked well together and I would certainly order this again.
One thing we noted, while the portions are certainly adequate, we ate it all, which is unusual. This is a little different from many Italian places that bring huge tubs of the pasta dishes. My chicken was a solid four stars and Ms T’s spaghetti was three stars. So I have the dilemma of where to set the rating. I am rounding up; Ms T was very happy with her lunch there earlier, corkage is reasonable and then there’s AAdvantage Dining participation. I prefer Filippos’ more for the intimate atmosphere, but Vito’s is worth re-​visiting.

Best Authentic Real Italian Pizzas
in West County !!

Wanted my first review of the new year to be a 5-​star, so I have been thinking about places that I have patronized recently and had great experiences. Vito’s was always the first one to pop into my head, so I felt compelled to write this update.
We are regulars here now, because Vito’s is one of those places where the owner gets to know you and they can be counted on to deliver great food and service. It is our go-​to place for when we want to go out for dinner without rolling the dice on a new place’s food or service. Also, they take reservations (halleluia) and are great about being ready so no wait hassles either.
About the service… as I said, we are regulars so we have experienced most of the servers at this point. They are all different as would be expected, but what they all have in common is the care they take to ensure that their customers have a great experience. To top it off, Gio (owner) always stops by our table to chat with us and make sure all is well.
On to the food. They have a big enough menu that anyone should be able to find something that they like. They always have at least one interesting special and a special appetizer. Sometimes I like to get the seafood special, other times I just want a pizza. They have enough different varieties of pizza to keep me busy for awhile, but probably the most fun is the quattro stagioni because it’s like getting four pizzas at once. The lasagna is delicious and it’s served in a cute little crock.
Their desserts are nice too and they have a good variety. My favorite is the bread pudding and I’m pretty much a one-​trick pony there so can’t comment on others.
Also, make a reservation — you can easily do it though your Unilocal app. If you don’t, you will most likely end up either waiting or sitting in the bar area.

Bumping these guys up to five stars based on the meal they served me over the weekend. We are regulars here and everything is usually great but not quite enough of a difference to warrant an upgrade to my review. Saturday night changed all that.
Made a reservation thru Unilocal’s link to Open Table and we were seated almost immediately upon arrival. My selection was in the bag as soon as I heard their specials and I went after the house-​made veal tortellini in a big way. A sage-​butter-​cream sauce brought it home for me and the addition of caramelized onions put it over the top. There were some portabello slices also but they were large enough to easily move aside.
It isn’t often that a pasta dish impresses me but this one completely knocked my socks off. The pasta was cooked exactly right and just very slightly al dente. The veal mixture inside was beefy, flavorful and just slightly salty. The onions were cut to strings and carmelized beautifully so that the natural sugars were brought to the forefront. The sauce was so good that I used a couple of pieces of bread to mop it all up because it was that spectacular. Without a doubt, one of the very best stuffed pasta dishes I’ve ever been served anywhere in the world. Apparently, it is a brand-​new special but I hope the response they receive is sufficient to warrant bringing it back around again.
I left feeling quite a bit fatter but extremely happy!

Walk in at 6pm Saturday. No reservations. Seated immediately in the bar area. Nice.
Ordered drinks immediately. Got the lemonade. It was watered down, but free refills.
Also got to order the meal immediately, much appreciated.
1. Arcini balls. Very good. Not a lot of rice. Lots of cheese. Fair around of meat. Very tasty. Very large balls.
2. Caesar salad. Didn’t show up until the pizzas, about 30 minutes after ordering. Got the small. Plenty of dressing. The dressing was delicious! Will definitely order again.
3. Got the Margherita pizza. Tomato had a slight sweet flavor and I liked it. Pizza was solid. Wasn’t wowed, but good.
4. Needed to get out quickly and they were very accommodating. Much appreciated.
5. Others got bread with olive oil and balsamic. We weren’t offered this. Not sure why not. We were in a hurry so not an issue, but it would have been nice to try that too.
