Studio 703

I don’t like to post negative reviews and I feel bad writing this, but my experience was so bad I feel like I need to. I scheduled an appointment online, which I thought was a nice feature, and went in for a full head of highlights last week. I brought a few pictures to show my stylist what I wanted and made it clear I wanted to lighten my medium/​light brown hair to blonde. The girl was really nice. Like really, really nice. Which also makes me feel bad about writing this review. When the highlights came out it wasn’t even close to the color I wanted or has shown her, but initially it didn’t look bad. I assumed it was just hard to make brown hair blonde. I should’ve noticed the red flag, though, when she did not show me my hair in the mirror until after it was dried. She trimmed a small portion off the bottom, put in some choppy layers and said I was done. She did not offer to style it either, which isn’t a necessity but is usually done. I paid (it was very expensive) and left. When I got home I noticed large, obvious stripes near the top of my head. I later found out this is from the color bleeding because too much was applied too near the scalp. Not only were there these horrible lines, but the highlights were very choppy and not even close to my head in many places. When I went home (to Wisconsin) to have it fixed, my salon I’ve gone to for 20 years said they had never seen anything like this. Now, I understand making mistakes. She was young and probably newer, but she should have told me instead of hiding it from me. She shouldn’t have let me pay so much money for her awful work and not offered to fix it. It’s a poor representation of this salon that has so many other positive reviews. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Like most guys, I went to the national chains for years… and time after time, they would butcher my hair. Once I found someone who was of any quality, they would move on, and I’d end up with someone new. I kid you not… at the end of my last haircut, the stylist had to get her manager’s approval before I was allowed to leave. Enough was enough…
My wife had been going to Studio 703 for years, and she set me up for an appointment with Shawn.
Needless to say, I had no idea what I had been missing. What a difference it makes to have a true professional cut your hair. I no longer had to worry about watching their every move, because these guys actually know what they are doing. I was surprised at how many other businessmen were in this place when I stopped in… I guess they figured things out long before I did.
You’ll be surprised what a good quality haircut will do to your confidence… Don’t just take my word for it, you need to check this place out. If your a businessman, you can’t afford to have jacked up hair, and these guys will take good care of you. They’re top notch.

Love this place! Very nice staff and always accommodating. I have been going to Jennifer H. for years and she is truly something amazing. What I love about her is that she is honest with her clients and will help you decide on what style/​color is best for you. She always gets it right! I recently added some color to my hair to lighten things up a bit. Being that my hair is very dark I left it in her hands to do what she thought best. And that is exactly what she did! Thank you Jennifer! You are simply the best. :)

Big thanks to Natalie at Studio 703. She spent 3 hours with me working to get red out and give me that subtle ombré I requested. I was her last customer of the day and felt bad for keeping her but she wanted me to be happy with the results. I LOVE how it turned out — and I am not an easy girl to please. Thanks for the great service. Will definitely be back!

I have been going to Studio 703 since they opened their doors — and I haven’t lived in St. Louis for 20+ years. I have continued to travel back «home» to get my hair cut all these years because Shawn and his team are the best! I completely trust them to make me look and feel beautiful! They always give me incredible hair cuts & styles that are easy to keep up and — my favorite part — always grow out beautifully. They are the only ones I trust to cut, trim and style my hair — no matter how many miles I live from them, I will always be back!

My husband made the appointment at 703 for me as a surprise. Normally, I get my hair trimmed for $ 20 and do my own coloring at home. I usually do not like my hairstyle and I end up wearing a pony.
I showed up on Sat for my stylist, Missy. We talked and I told her about all the issues I had with my hair and why I didn’t like it. I told her she could do whatever she wanted with the style and color. She explained some of the reasons why my hair acted the way it did and she explained it in a way it made sense to me. She was very easy to talk to and she made me feel more comfortable than any other hair place I have been.
I was completely satisfied with everything that she accomplished. Color is great and I love the style. Husband thinks I look «hot». Only problem I have is duplicating the style that she so easily did when she blow dried it. Guess a little practice and getting some hints the next time I come in will help.
I will definitely be back to see Missy and find out how her holiday weekend went at the lake. Thanks for the great service.

Missy is the best stylist and colorist!

I had incredibly high hopes for this place (being that their reviews were fabulous). I made an afternoon appointment and everyone was incredibly friendly. The color consultation went well — and then it was time for the cut.
Hack. Job. I kid you not — I explicitly asked to keep my length as I am trying to grow my hair out… I now have choppy layers inches from my scalp. I am not one to get upset about a haircut — I have had short hair before and I have dealt with it. However, the haircut itself is absolutely TERRIBLE. The length in the front doesn’t even match (it’s off by almost an inch!). There was a point in time where she was cutting my hair horizontally — yes, like a bowl cut. It looks like a mullet and a bob mated on my head. Seriously tragic.
In addition to this, after 3 days of shampooing, the color that was promised to cover and keep the copper tones in my hair at bay is turning up – you guessed it – copper!
It is incredibly possible that I got stuck with someone new… or perhaps it was just an off day for them. I’m not sure, but I’m probably not going to risk a second shot at it.

What can I say about Shawn, Dee and the Fabulosity Crew at Studio 703? A friend introduced me to this amazing place in 2004 and I have never considered going anywhere else. In fact, I now live in Belleair, Florida and continue to plan all of my visits home to St. Louis around my hair appointments with Shawn!
I have sent many friends here… and I don’t send my friends anywhere unless I’m really, really sure they won’t be disappointed.
By day I play an IT professional, but at night I play myself — rock singer, recording artist, and cabaret performer. Having a hair style that is current, flattering, and most of all represents «me» is really important. I have had a lot of styles in my day (can you say «spiral perm»?) and this is absolutely the first and only hair cut I have ever, ever had that is truly wash n go FABULOUS. If I have a show or a photo shoot I can style it out — but if I want I can just as easily come out of the pool, shake it dry, and look great. Really. Like going out to dinner great. And don’t even get me started about my color! Not a week goes by when someone doesn’t ask me, «where did you get that HAIR!!!». Seriously, I am sometimes amazed myself that this is actually my hair. Shawn has somehow given me the hair I never thought I could have… it’s all in the cut, baby.
Co-​Owner/​Operator Shawn Summers has been my stylist since day one and I wouldn’t trade him for the world. He and Dee Broderick take great care to hire quality, highly professional people who are genuinely committed to making people look great and feel good about themselves.
The vibe is upscale but still cool, casual, and friendly. You feel as if you’ve slipped into some kind of time warp and have been transported to the type of place you’d find in LA, Chicago, or New York, but its totally comfortable. Everything about the place makes you feel welcome, relaxed, and refreshed when you leave.
Over the past 8 years (wow!) I’ve gotten to know Shawn, Dee and their amazing team and I can honestly say that they are all just the kindest, coolest, nicest people you would want to meet. Don’t let the high-​end look scare you away from discovering this fabulous little gem.
So when you call, be sure to ask for Shawn and tell him Shauna sent you… and tell him I said to «rock you out» like he does me every 4 weeks… Trust me you won’t be disappointed!

I’ve been going to Amy since I moved here in May; so far, so good! I found her when my husband nominated me for a makeover and I never looked back. She recommended some changes to my current cut and color, and was able to work within my parameters for hair care. Basically I require something that is wash and wear — no blow dry, no heat style, and minimal product. Not an easy task for a stylist to work with, but she did it and I get lots of compliments on it!
On those humid days when my thick curly hair looks like Pink Panther just stepped out of the dryer, I just don’t tell people who my stylist is :-). I know most of you 20-​something hipsters have no idea what I’m talking about there, but you can google Pink Panther cartoon and have a chuckle.

I spontaneously stopped by this place after yoga since it was only 2 min away and I REALLY wanted bangs. I have a super unique and unfortunately shaped face that just refuses to look good with any sort of bangs (according to every hairstylist I went to), except for the super long ones that cover your face. After reading reviews, I marched right into this place and told Missy I really really really wanted short bangs. She was super nice about it and told me while she doesn’t recommend straight blunt bangs, short side swept ones would look great on me – YAY! She then started snipping away and asked if I wanted them shorter, more to the side, etc. She listened for my input but still gave me suggestions. That is what I like in a hairstylist-​someone who works with you but doesn’t leave you hanging to decide all by yourself what you want. Even though it was just a bang trim, she spent a good deal of time and concentration on my hair and I really appreciated it. I’ve been to other places for a bang trim where they just snip snip snip and then you’re done in 2 minutes. I dig the atmosphere too – clean and mod without that upscale posh crap. Prices are pretty decent too. I can’t wait to get my haircut here– I’m sure I’ll rate this place 5 stars afterwards!

I went to Studio 703 for the first time Friday and I was very impressed by everything. My hair stylist was amazing, the front desk girl was so friendly and helpful and the owner even came over to talk to me and complimented my hair. As soon as I walked in I was offered a beverage. The salon is beautiful as well. I will continue to go to Studio 703 to get my hair done.

I have known Shawn Summers since he got started in the business, and there is absolutely no one better! Shawn and Bob created Studio 703 to be a place unlike most salons. It is a place that is «real» and a place where you are given total attention and care. More than just a family atmosphere with a business casual flare, it is a place you are determined to keep coming back to time and time again. I’ve been to both of their salons (this one and the one on Manchester). Both are equally amazing.
If you want a place where you’ll keep coming back to, well step right up, sit right down, and let the professionals do the rest. It’s more than cutting edge and trendy … its creates the trend that determines the edge.

I am in love!
I finally found my new hair salon. After my last hair dresser moved out of Saint Louis, I have to admit that I let my long hair just keep on growing without a trim for the last 10 months. Then, this past Friday my twin sister wanted to get all dolled up for our birthday party that evening so I decided to go with her.
I ended up just wanting to get a hair cut but it was so much more than that. I had an appointment with Missy and she was absolutely amazing! She did an amazing job then styled my hair for my birthday party. I felt so gorgeous walking out of the salon and excited to go back to Studio 703 very soon!

Bob and Shawn have got one heck of a place here. Good service, some if the city’s best hair professionals. I’d recommend this place to just about anyone except the guy looking for a $ 5 haircut. If that’s you, go get a flo-​be.

Go see Deyne. She’s the best! I followed her here from another salon even though Studio 703 is a little farther out of the way. The place is nice. The people working the desk and phones are always friendly. But the only real reason i go there is for Deyne.

I learned about Studio 703 when my hairstylist began working here a couple years ago. Since, she has moved on elsewhere, but I still love this salon. When people want their hair colored, I always recommend they come here. This is where I get my hair colored. You can get your hair or your makeup done here.
The owner is a photographer and does a lot of work with models. That fact makes me very comfortable in coming here. The prices aren’t too crazy and the staff is nice. The décor is urban and I really like it. One problem is that they are in a little strip mall and I drove right past them the first two times I visited.
