Satchmo’s Bar & Grill

Just moved to the neighborhood and stopped in to try the local bar and grill and we’re glad we did! Great food, friendly and competent servers, and an open comfortable atmosphere. We were able to be there for the weekend’s live music and we had a very good time there. Definitely coming back and recommending to others!

Wow, never knew this place was here. The food is as great as the pictures look. Will be back (a lot) for sure. Awesome stuff!!!

Wednesday night 8 buck steak and patato good deal. Fish and chips tonight, should have ordered the steak.

Never been here before and wanted to try something different. Had a server that was new and he let us know which was nice but he preformed like he’d been at this place for a while! I ordered the jerk chicken burger and my wife ordered power plate with sirloin. Everything. Was fresh and very good! Dessert menu was only one item that didn’t sound good to us so that is he only thing I’d like to see changed. Highly recommend this place!

Satchmo’s is terrible! Ah, just kidding as I don’t want so many people to go there that there is a wait for a table. Went for the first time and 2 of us had a burger and 1 a chicken wrap. Everyone loved it. Started off with some nachos which were also excellent. Good selection of craft beer on tap and if you can’t find your flavor, good variety in bottles. Server friendly & efficient. Live music just added to our experience.

Excellent service and good beer selection. We went on St. Patricks Day so I don’t think we can fully judge based on this one experience, because it was crazy busy. We got hot wings; and MY LORD they were hot! I would call them «BLAZING» or «KILLER» wings! The burgers were ok as well, but I will absolutely go back and give it another shot!

My girlfriend and I went for lunch February 23. We were invited to take a seat, so we chose a booth.
Our server was quite friendly, offered menus and took drink orders.
I thought this was just a burger joint, but the menu is quite varied. Specials today were a meatloaf sandwich and New England clam chowder.
I got a bowl of clam chowder. My girlfriend got fish ‘n chips.
The clam chowder was rich, luxurious. The clams were small. The potatoes were cut small. A flavorful, rich broth. So, you got some of everything with each spoonful. A tasty bowl of soup. And quite filling.
I sampled a couple of my girlfriend’s chips, which really just looked like Ruffles — but they were hot (temp-​wise), very crispy and very tasty.
My tab was ~$ 5.

We live in the area and have been here several times. It’s kind of a local dive bar that has tried to have a decent menu. The place could definitely use a little cleaning and updating.
We used to go up for burger night but the service was so slow. This is the main reason that we will not return. We were recently in there on a Sunday afternoon. A few locals at the bar and one other table. There was 1 waitress/​bartender and 1 cook. It took 1 hour to get a wrap, burger and nachos. One hour. The grilled chicken sandwich is now a chicken burger which was pretty gross.

We came for drinks and a late dinner and mostly enjoyed the experience. Our food was good and we found the options to be extensive. One of the chefs also came out and showed us their new menus debuting soon. We had drinks but unfortunately we had to keep going up to the bar for new rounds since we never actually had a consistent waiter. The other problem was that we happened to go on a night when a band was playing and though they were okay, there was really no area in the bar that wasn’t blasted with their music. Next time, we will check and go on a night without the band.

We like our burgers well done and often places either serve a hard, dry burger or it still has pink in it. Sachmo’s burgers were cooked perfectly and they were delicious! We had great service and heard a great band. We will definitely come back!

Best burgers in town! The beer is fresh and the service is [usually] great! Try their sweet potato fries. Yum yum.

Pizza is legit. However, beer selection could be better. Much better. It would be amazing if they had some more wheat beers beyond Shock Top and Blue Moon. (e.g. Abita Strawberry Harvest lager which I consume at such an alarming rate that I might as well get some shares in their company, if they ever go public… IPO for some IPA, hah get it?)
But yeah. Mad props for lack of provel on their pizzas. Also got a decent deal on Sunday night — I think it’s like $ 9 or $ 10 ish for a large pizza. That’s normally the price for a small. So yeah. That’s pretty cool. I did have to bring the remainder home though, but it was worth it. Still not as good as Shady Jack’s pizza but this place is somehow marginally closer to my home and I don’t have to drive through the ghetto to get to it either, so that’s a plus. And the whole open on Sunday and serving late thing is awesome. Fuck Sunday. It’s the worst fucking day of the week, ugh! D:
They allllmost got my companion’s burger right this time. Verrry close, but still no pink in the center. Maybe it’s a legality thing???
Any case, I will be back, but still wish there were more beers available.

Received an email from the new management — looks like they are trying very hard to re-​establish the business so I’m willing to give them a second chance.

Update — I did get a very quick response from the owner regarding my experience. I am confident he is sincere in wanting to rectify the issue. My hope is that it doesn’t happen to anyone else.
I come here occasionally usually to meet people who are regulars. I met some friends here in March to help celebrate a birthday. It was not busy at all and i got a drink right away. I asked for a menu but that took forever. The woman tending bar seemed distracted and focused on helping some but not all at the bar. Getting her attention to get a menu and then to order took forever… Food was good once I got it. Then she took the plate away eventually but then proceeded to put another full plate down in front of me. I was like i just got done eating. It was strange and there was no apology.
I would not and do not make any special effort to go here as the service is that poor.

Great first experience. The menu was very diverse and all 5 of us ordered something different. We all agreed the food was amazing! Great portions and value. Definitely exceeds expectations on what sports bar food will be like. Tasty cocktails and nice beer selection. Both bartender and server were attentive and friendly. Music started at 7:30 and the band was great. Can’t wait to go back.

This place is great, pizza is good, beer is cold, televisions showing the Cardibals game is always good. Touch tunes machine for music. Bartender Caitlyn is top notch.

Great food. Decent service. Wasn’t able to use my coupon but wasn’t informed until after I had already placed my order (I asked prior to placing my order) but mistakes happen. The food was great quality and reasonably priced. The fried green tomatoes were extremely salty so I wouldn’t recommend those but the lobster ravioli was delicious and our burgers were great. Our waitress/​bartender was nice. The $ 3.99 burger was delicious although I ordered it medium and got well done which usually is irritating but it was extremely flavorful so I let it slide. They definitely need to get a bigger location with more seating. I would recommend this restaurant for the food and the numerous options but I was not really feeling the atmosphere. There are some places you go into where you just feel comfortable and I didn’t get that vibe here. Nothing anyone did, just wasn’t a good vibe for me. :)

Came here for a party, and definitely wouldn’t have tried it otherwise. A little out of the way for me, living downtown stl, and unassuming in the middle of a strip mall.
Staff was super friendly and made sure everyone was taken care of. Cocktails were great! Rob introduced himself to our table and explained the new menu at Satchmo’s. The food was better than I expected it would be. We tried the sesame crusted ahi tuna (thumbs up), pig wings (soo good, falling off the bone), flatbread, and potato skins. I would recommend it if you’re in the area!

I rarely write bad reviews but our experience at Satchmo’s Friday night was too awful to ignore. We have been there many times because the place is in our neighborhood and the food was surprisingly good for what is primarily a bar. Service has always been slow but Friday was a nightmare. It took more than 20 minutes just to get menus. Another 20 passed before anyone took our order. A full 40 minutes and lots of complaining finally brought food. The music was blaring so loud I had to shout at my husband across a small booth-​and was hard rock with screaming, extended guitar solos for a crowd made up 80−90% by people way over the age of 60.
And the food-​I ordered the night’s special which was Chicken Marsala with wild rice and asparagus. I have never seen a Marsala sauce before that was dark, muddy purple and tasted strongly of cheap red wine. Chicken was extremely dry with some kind of unidentifiable thick breading. Rice was congealed, asparagus was cold. My husband said his spicy corn chowder was tasty but lukewarm at best. Pulled pork tacos were average. We spoke with the manager/​owner, who basically said he was sorry but offered no explanation or remedy. He did offer to buy us a drink, but we were not drinking alcohol that night and by that time just wanted out of the place. Our server was nice and apologetic but service is totally disorganized. No drink refills, etc.
The place was more crowded than usual because they were supposedly running some kind of coupon deal. I am sure virtually all of the people the deal attracted will not come back. The new owners took over about a year ago and have no clue how to run a restaurant or manage staff. I had heard from a friend that they had fired their previous chef who had been responsible for the good quality of the food in the past. (Apparently he was fired for posting some unflattering reviews of management.). We may come back for drinks just because a lot of our friends frequent the place but I will never again eat there.

Great Southwest Burger. Try the sweet potato fries and fried green beans. Both great options!
Only drawback — no miller lite on draft. Bottles were cold though and the beers came quickly! We’ll be back!
