The food is great. I have been there several times and I have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is friendly and light. The place is small with only a few tables and bar stools but I have never waited more than about 5 minutes to be seated. There breakfast is to die for. Large portions cooked to perfection.

It doesn’t get better than this for home style diner food. Lots of atmosphere(literally and figuratively), wonderful staff, and friendly regulars. I had the Reuben and key lime pie. Delicious. Loved the Key Lime Pie so much, I ordered 6 to bring to my daughters wedding, later that week. I can’t wait to return here for breakfast.

Delicious family run business. It’s our favorite place for breakfast. The French toast is my favorite, seasonal fresh fruit is a delightful addition and changes daily. Ann & Gary Pyle have a great little place here. Give it a try.

This is a little place that full of yumminess!!! Always order my favorite cheese steak with coleslaw! The coleslaw is a little bit too sour if you are just eating by itself, but if you are eating it with the cheese steak, it became the perfect match!!! The sourness balance well with the cheesy fattiness of the cheese and meat! Love it so much!!! I wish they open for early dinner too!!! If you still have room, you should try their homemade pies too!!! I would recommend you to eat half of your sandwich and save some room for the dessert!!! The key lime pie and coconut pie are awesome!!! P. S. Make sure you come here with cash!!! They do not take cards!!!

Absolutely delicious! We were a little apprehensive once we say the exterior, but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. The staff was very nice and welcoming. It felt like eating at someone’s home. One tip: bring cash, no cards accepted.

Exactly what you’d hope for! This little diner has fantastic food fresh off the grill. We love to go for breakfast and we’ve always been happy with anything we’ve ordered. Be prepared, it’s tiny and can be difficult to get a seat but it’s very worth it!

Wow! I love this place. Such great food made to order. Make sure to bring cash, but you will NOT be disappointed ordering anything from this menu. I had the chicken Philly cheesesteak with peppers and mushrooms, sooo good. We also bought a pie to take with us and it was amazing. This little local jewel is a must. Great food and service.

Amazing place! We got here at 10am and found a table easy. It really is a little hole in the wall place. Our waitress(who is also the owner) was so nice. She kept our coffee cups full and even talked to us a bit about the food and her place. She even left the menu with us so we could take pictures. I got sausage eggs home fries and the egg nog french toast. My bestie got egg nog french toast and sausage. Meal for two $ 25 not including tip. Definitely a hidden gem in Chesapeake to check out.

The grill is a small mom and pop joint that has the Greatest philly cheese steaks in hampton roads hands down! No cheese whiz. The burgers and breakfast are awesome as well. If possible leave room for dessert because you will be glad you did. The downside are the hours so if you get off work and think you are going there, nope you’re not. However, if you can’t make it during the week schedule it on the weekend you’ll be glad you did.

Absolutely delicious. We had the sweet potato pancakes with pecans. Very sweet but amazing. We also had the hash browns and the omelette. Gary makes a mean omelette and it was delicious with fresh ingredients. Anne was sweet as can be :) the ambiance is cozy and mom and pop which I love. Coffee and OJ are nothing to write home about, but on whole, great experience!

First time visiting this place. Won’t be the last. Little hole in the wall right on Battlefield. Awesome philly steak sandwich. Wife had an outstanding burger. Just when I didn’t think it could get better, it did. We decided to try desserts. Wife had chocolate pecan pie and I went for the coconut custard. A slice of heaven. The service was great. Even though it was closing time, I could not tell. Owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. If you haven’t already, check this place out, it will not disappoint.

Friendly staff for the most part. We did not get to try the food on the menu because it was after 11am. They do stop serving breakfast after a certain time and go on to lunch. Small place and not much seating. We were able to get seats, but with it being our first time here we did not know breakfast was not served all day. Will drop by next time to try their breakfast during their hours.

It was soooooo good! I had the steak philly with onions and mushrooms and it did not let me down!!! My husband ordered the chicken philly with mushrooms and added bacon… Delicious! The bread was quality and it was seasoned just right. We wanted to try the homemade pie but we were too stuffed to get dessert. They only accept cash so be sure to stop by the ATM before u get there. I guess the only thing was they were nice but I expected them to be a bit more personable especially when we were the only guests there(I had to ask for a refill) but aside from that the food was YES, YES, and YES! We will try it again.

Awesome little place! While traveling on business I enjoy local business rather than chains. This place did not disappoint. I arrived just in time to get the last breakfast order before the lunch changeover. The home fries were fantastic perhaps best ever and my egg sandwich was delicious! The owner is the grill man who is originally from Philly so perhaps that’s why this experience was reminiscent of a Northeast Diner. Super nice and friendly staff as well! Check this diner out and you won’t be sorry. In fact I was so inspired by my visit I joined Unilocal so I could make a post about it

Gary and Ann put out some great food. Gary is a Philly native and gets the Amoroso rolls for the cheesesteaks he serves. They are the best in the area! Their breakfast dishes are plentiful and very good. You won’t go away hungry!

Gary & Anne were gracious hosts and made us feel right at home. Partly because Gary is a fellow PA guy — first clue was him cook in’ scrape on the griddle! Don’t let the small footprint scare you off — we top of the heartiest of appetites even after our 10 hour drive! Plates are plentiful and it’s all cooked and served with love. Might need to stop for the«award winning»(allegedly u Tim I try them) cheesesteaks on our return leg.

An awesome tiny diner for breakfast and lunch, a real Mom and Pop business owned and operated by Gary and Ann Pyle. The homemade desserts are amazing, the coconut custard pie is my favorite but I’ve never had a dessert here that wasn’t absolutely delicious. The Philly cheesesteaks are simply stunning and delicious, the best I’ve had since moving to Hampton Roads from Philadelphia over 20 years ago. Gary is from Philly so he knows what he’s doing with cheesesteaks. The burgers are amazing too. I rarely eat breakfast here because they open kind of late(7AM) but their breakfast items are all delicious, I really enjoy the home fries and thick slabs of bacon. If you haven’t tried The Grill at Great Bridge, do yourself and favor and pay them a visit. Be sure to bring cash because they don’t take credit cards.

What a wonderful, little diner! Our breakfast was perfect! I’m extremely picky about my homefries and I’m pleased to say, THISPLACEKNOWSHOWTOMAKEHOMEFRIES! :-) Their French toast was absolutely fantastic. Hot, soft, and fluffy! Perfection! I was told that they give you hefty servings, so I told my son’s that there was no need for me to place an order since they both got the same thing and all I wanted was some homefries and French toast. My sons ordered homefries, French toast, scrambled eggs, and country link sausage. When their food came out, in regards to the servings, they provided enough for us to all share. The French toast filled the entire plate. The homefries took up the entire half of their plate and those plates aren’t small! The country links were huge and the it looked like they used 3 – 4 eggs per serving. Even though I didn’t place an order and we all shared, we still had enough left for a doggie bag. I thoroughly enjoyed those homefries and the French toast! My sons said their food was great and we all give this place the thumbs up. The Grill may not be a big in size, but it is BIG on food and they provide something for everyone. Our server was very welcoming, attentive, and cordial. Her name was Ann and she owns The Grill with her husband. They’ve received numerous awards and have been featured on the news for having the best breakfast in Chesapeake. I highly recommend that you check out this place.

It’s a nice small hole in the wall restaurant. I had the Philly cheesesteak and so did my girlfriend, and we really liked it. The coleslaw was delicious and I generally don’t like coleslaw. My issue is that The wife seemed to be homophobic. She wasn’t attentive and she kept giving my girlfriend looks. I noticed she spent more time at the tables around us and wasn’t too friendly with us. When we first came in, she was already rushing us and didn’t seem comfortable doing business with us. I would’ve given them four stars but I felt the service was way off. I understand that everyone has their own beliefs, but if I’m paying you for food and treating you respectfully, I should receive the same treatment as well. So, I may give them one more try and just see if it was a bad day, or if my instincts about her being homophobic is correct.

The restaurant itself is quite small, but it is overflowing with love. The menu beautifully covers every breakfast need your heart may desire. My girl and I each ordered the country platter, so we tried a wide variety of foods! The French toast and pancakes were phenomenal — they were so good, in fact, that they’re the best I’ve ever had. The home fries were unbelievable, as were the grits! And the sausage was amazing — crispy skin and all! The only negative was that we didn’t have room for dessert! The Grill provided a wonderful breakfast with my wonderful company! We will definitely go again!

Talk about a best kept secret. I had heard of this gem previously and now that I’m working in Greenbrier again I figured it was time to make a trip down to Great Bridge for lunch and see if the rumors were true. With 2 co-workers in tow we made the trip down Battlefield Blvd in short order and arrived at our destination. This is a tiny little diner in a cubed white building. As you enter there’s a counter on the left that seats about 10 – 12 people and there are 3 small tables on the right against the windows. That’s it for the dining room. It’s tight. We were placed in a table in the back corner, placed drink orders and looked over the menus. When our drinks were delivered we talked briefly to who I’m assuming is the owners wife. She asked if we had been there before, pointed out some news articles on the wall where they had won some cheese steak awards. BTW, breakfast is served until 11am, after that lunch only. Fortunately at the moment I thought to ask a very important question. «Do you take plastic?». They don’t. Grill at Great Bridge is a cash only establishment. None of us had cash, however she said there was an ATM two doors over at the gas station on the corner. We placed our lunch orders and then all walked over to the gas station. Grumble. After grabbing some cashish from an ATM that looked like a one armed bandit we returned and shortly after that our orders arrived. I could tell as she was placing our lunch on the table that the rumors were true, this was going to be a heavenly meal. I had a bacon cheeseburger(of course I did), one of my co-workers had a regular Philly with provolone, green peppers and grilled onions, the other had a chicken Philly with the same toppings. There are no fries there, two of us had bags of chips and the other had home made coleslaw. My burger was hand made and just covered with bacon. You can see for yourself in the pictures I supplied. I’m not sure where this bacon came from, but an educated guess would be a local butcher. It was delicious! Both of my co-workers said that their cheese steaks were the best they’ve ever had. The Best! Talk about high praise indeed as we’ve been to a lot of places for lunch. Next time I’m getting the cheese steak for sure. But wait there’s more… If you read my reviews you know I’m not much of a desert guy, however I do make exceptions from time to time. Grill at Great Bridge is one of those exceptions. I kid you not. For desert we all had Nutty Buddy Cheesecake. Yes, you read that correctly. NUTTYBUDDYCHEESECAKE. Holy mother of God it was delicious, sacralicious & groin-grabbingly good. If desert is your thing, you have to try their cheesecake. I even brought some back for the ladies in the office. The owner, who had been working the grill our entire visit, asked how the food was while we were checking out. Of course we all responded it was great. All in all, it’s a bit cramped but a great hole in the wall to visit. Why am I giving them a 4 star rating instead of a 5? Because I had to get up and get cash at gas station ATM. In this day in age of smart phones they could easily have a card reader on a mobile device or just a regular card reader on the counter that works through a phone line. That won’t stop me from coming back, now that I know I’ll make sure I have cash. Make the trip and check them out. You’ll be glad you did!

This is an update to my previous review of March 2012. Literally nothing has changed and this little gem in Great Bridge is still deserving of 5 stars in my book. When preparing to open the door I saw a Unilocal friendly sticker in the window. It was surprising not to see it packed at lunch today, but not complaining because it can take a while to get food when they are slammed. Gary and Ann greeted me and remember all of their regulars by name and today was no different. As a matter of fact it is hard to not find a regular at this small joint. I was not about to change a thing and told Ann I wanted my usual Philly Steak with, mushrooms and slaw. My objective was to make it all the way to Ann’s homemade pie. Today on the menu was six sweet concoctions to choose from. It took around 15 minutes to deliver a full plate of heavenly goodness. The aroma brought back memories from when I worked in the area and visited once a month. It did not disappoint either, served smoking hot and tasted incredible. But what about that pie selection, I was determined to make it. I finished off the huge Philly and was ready to bring on a slice of coconut custard pie, see pic. It has great flavor and is dense as heck, oh I missed this place. I wish this place was in VB so I could support it more. Next time is going to be an award winning burger, but no promises. I will be back, even if I have to go out of my way to do it. The quality of the food and the level of personal attention is unmatched. If you haven’t checked them out what are you waiting for, you will thank me later.
