I’m old school and I love old school rock. If you’re like me and live in Virginia Beach, there’s really only one radio station to serve your classic rock needs: 106.9 The Fox. Although the station is targeted to the Baby Boomer set(just check out the disk jockey’s and the prizes they offer, sheesh!), it plays a great selection of traditional classic rock. Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and more of your favorite 60s, 70s and 80s artists are always on tap. The one criticism that I have about this station is that they seem to get sucked into playing the popular hits, despite having a huge selection of recognizable deep cuts from these epic artists to tap into. When 106.9 plays The Doors, of course it’s Light My Fire or L.A. Woman. I want to hear some Back Door Man or The End. And of course when they play Led Zeppelin it’s Stairway to Heaven. I want to hear Dazed and Confused and When the Levy Breaks. 106.9 The Fox is like a starter kit for the classic rock fans. Listen to a few hits then check out the deep cuts on your own.
