Love this local hardware store. They have many items and are super close by. We need to support our local businesses ad to his is a great one on Main Street in Chatham.

Yup an old-school hardware store in the best sense of the word, it’s still hanging in right on main street in Chatham. Village Hardware is packed to the rafters with inventory and staffed by friendly people who know that inventory well. I went in for a bit of brass hardware and was helped instantly, out the door again in a New York minute, try that at a big-box store! They also made a key for an old door lockset for just $ 2, very fair. This is the local Benjamin-Moore paint depot if you need that. Their hours are amazing for such a tiny store, it opens 7am every weekday and even has Sunday hours. I’m sure some prices are annoyingly high but the frustration and blood-pressure-elevation factor is delightfully low here :) give them a chance.

These people are amazing. I am a local plumber and use their store because they have great service as well as great part selections in a pinch! I use to bring my little daughter with me sometimes and they’d let her ride little baby bikes in the store. They loved seeing her come to the store! A REAL tightly knit family operation, entirely reasonable prices and stellar service. Our country needs more mom and pop stores like Village Hardware. A real store with real people who actually CARE!

Went here to help my mother-in-law, and brought a screen door fitting to be rescreened. A little expensive, but better than waiting for my husband to do it. Will probably go back. I love hardware shops and am lucky to have several in my area… not just Home Depots!

Places like this are the reasons I cringe every time I am forced to go to Home Depot for something or other. The staff is not only knowledgeable, but they are just down-to-earth people who are trained to gauge your knowledge and not speak over your head. –and while I am waiting to get my paint(Benjamin Moore) mixed, I love to wander down the aisles and find all sorts of cool stuff. This is definitely one of those hardware stores I remember walking into with my mom and having the lamp re-wired or something crazy like that. Need a screw of a certain size or a washer… not only do they sell them loose here, but if you bring in one of the same, they will show you how to use the sizing tools! They have 95% of everything I need, and even a website with coupons! Parking is plentiful in the back and sometimes even on 124… Listen… I live two blocks from a brand new 3-story Home-Depot, but I save my hardware trips for this place on my lunch hour…

I don’t miss the quintessential small-town hardware store, because I’m lucky enough to live in a town that has one. Village Hardware is right downtown, with a huge display window filled with all sorts of interesting stuff. It’s packed to the rafters with an incredible variety of items. Yeah, you might save a buck on something at any one of the 6 or 7 Home Depots within a 10 mile radius, but that’s not worth the convenience of walking in, saying«Do you have(insert item here)», getting shown right to it(everyone who works here knows where everything is), paying and leaving. Especially if I’m in the middle of a project and need a tool, or a piece of hardware, there’s nothing like walking or driving downtown to get exactly what I need. There’s price and then there’s value, and buying something at Village is always a good value. We’ve also bought all our paint and supplies for interior painting here. They’re a Benjamin Moore dealer, and are great to get advice from. If you’ve never gone to a small store like this for paint, it’s a completely different experience than a big box. Again, you’ll spend a few dollars more per gallon, but it’s worth it. Overall, there’s something immensely satisfying to me about our local hardware store – a feeling that I’m preserving a part of Americana by patronizing it. If you lament the changes in our society that have brought about faceless megastores, a place like Village is an antidote to that.
