My daughter and I are vegetarian and always looking for great vegetarian options at restaurants. Mellow Mushroom has a lot of veggie options on the menu. We had a Greek salad and the mega-veggie pizza. Both were very good. My sons had a pepperoni pizza which they really liked. The service was excellent. We went at lunch on a Friday. I noticed they have a good lunch special of salad and pizza slice for $ 7.99 I think. The small salads are pretty big! We will be back!

The pizza here is very good… the crust is thicker and lighter than a traditional NY-style pizza… The draft beer list is large with good variety(and I think it is updated often)… last night I tried the Perennial Sump Coffee Stout and Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown Ale. The Brown was good, but the Stout was amazing… Also had a Caesar salad which was very good…

I had no idea this was a chain. I picked this place based on its Unilocal reviews and their offering of gluten free pizza. I was craving pizza and my boyfriend was craving wings. He was thrilled when we pulled up to the restaurant and I had picked one of his favorite places. We ordered: Gluten Free Pizza — very good, crispy crust. Loved the many selections. We picked the thai pizza. Chicken Wings — Honestly, excellent wings. Perfect amount of sauce and spice. Wings weren’t too fatty or fried. Great beer selection too! All in all, a great meal and a good option for when you’re craving pizza or wings on the road.

Mellow mushroom is my favorite place for pizza in Cville! Not just pizza, but pretty good craft beer selection, huge menu of pizza, salads, or pasta choices, and an even cooler atmosphere. Who wouldn’t want to eat a delicious meal surrounded by bright colorful paintings and sights to see? I had the Cosmic Karma pizza, which is one of their best. Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, pesto sauce swirled on top, simply delicious! And the crust is amazing with the Parmesan sprinkles all over it. My friend had the Mellowtereanean pizza(like a Greek pizza) which looked really good, especially with the large side of tzatziki sauce. My other friend got the Red Skinned Potato pizza which was so different but so amazing! I loved it, tasted like a loaded baked potato on a pizza! That was very unique, filling, but so delicious. The only food I didn’t like was the cheesy bread appetizer with olive spread, had waaay too many olives, it overtook the dish. I normally like olives, but on this app, it was too much. Overall, one of my favorite places in Cville for a chill meal with great atmosphere. Not only me, but all my friends love it here too. Its becoming our Cville tradition! Such a cool place.

I love pizza. But Mellow Mushroom’s has to be my favorite. They never disappoint! Their crust and dough are the best in the game. They are the perfect fluffy texture and I could honestly just eat the crust by itself. Even after eating the big, filling slices I always want to eat all of the crust. The topping and flavor combos are also awesome. Today we got 3 pies: Buffalo Chicken, Philosopher’s Pie, and Thai Dye. The buffalo chicken one was to my surprise amazing. I wasn’t doubting Mellow’s pizza-crafting skills, but I usually do not like any buffalo chicken items. This one was different. The chicken was tender and there wasn’t a weird hot sauce taste. It was mixed perfectly with the ranch and bacon to create a perfect taste. The Philosopher’s Pie was also good, but the only topping I personally am crazy about is the portobello mushrooms. I didn’t get to try the Thai Dye one because I was too full from the two slices! But I did try a couple pieces of the cucumber topping and even that was delicious. I packed some to bring home and try which I am more than thrilled about.

Best gluten free options in Central Virginia. The crust for the«well floured» among us is simply amazing. Ingredients are fresh and this is THAT pizza place you would expect in a college town. MM is relaxed, has a great bar, and the service was fantastic. We have been twice and it’s consistently worth every dime. Can’t wait to get back. And it’s great for kids.

For a mid week dinner stop it was perfect. Very fast service, our server was very friendly! Happy Hour from 3 – 6. Only knock is that they don’t have flights as I was told some of the beers have high alcohol content. Solution: only offer certain beers for a flight. Great pizza, quick service, great atmosphere!

Not bad a pizza place, but their crust was on the too thick side for me. Their pepperoni pizza also on the salty side. Their waitresses provided great and friendly services. Parking was challenging. I had to settle for a paid parking($ 5.00 for two hours) just to check out the place. Definitely not a place for frugal visitors, but probably a perfect eatery for UVA students who can just walked there.

I love the Richmond location so I was excited to give other locations of Mellow Mushroom a try. Unfortunately, my favorite items on the menu simply weren’t as good as they are in Richmond. The spinach dip was almost entirely spinach, no creamy filling, and I didn’t like the taste. My pizza was pretty good but still just not the same as Richmond. Décor was cute — once again, however, I’m biased towards the Richmond location.

I was excited to see this place when I first started going out to Charlottesville. But it doesn’t compare to the RVA location.

I’m pretty sure if you took a look at my genetic make up my genotype would read: PIZZA. So, with Mellow Mushroom being a Pizza place you bet I tried it and then kept trying it. The pizza is delicious and my favorite is the House Special or the Mega Veggie(minus the artichoke hearts and feta). The crust as mentioned by a bevy of previous reviewers is in fact an herb tasting dough that when paired with sweet toppings and salty meats is unique in flavor. The House Special is a salty meaty conglomerate that ranges from bacon, pepperoni, sausage, to mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, etc. It’s basically pizza topping heaven. The Mega Veggie is exactly what it sounds like and contrary to the veggie nay-sayers out there it has a hell of a lot of flavor especially when you add pineapple. Trust. Now as far as the restaurant itself, this place is causal and choke full of college students. As a result, it can be a loud crowded gathering in the evenings. However if you come during the afternoons it can be calmer. From time to time MM also has themed nights such as Trivia which can be fun, but again, kind of crazy with the onslaught of people jammed in there. Also note, that if you’re looking for delivery MM only delivers starting at certain times in the early evening so be aware before you call. I find that it’s often easier to just order and pick up since delivery can be unpredictable.

Not the best pizza, but definitely tasty. The dough is really good and I found myself finishing all of it, which is unusual. They have lots of unique options for pizza, which is good. The holy shiitake is delicious, although I think they could go a little lighter on the swirl of sauce on top(maybe serve it on the side). The maui wowie is already good, the banana peppers balance out the pineapple(which I usually dislike on my pizza). Also love pesto. They were super busy(friday night), but takeout only took 20 minutes. Would come again to try other pies.

This is only the 2nd time I’ve reviewed in Unilocal.I have been vegan for over 10 years and this was the most unflavored, blandest Pizza I have ever eaten. If you are vegan and want to eat good pizza steer clear of this place. And the pizza was $ 34. For a 2 vegan-gluten free pizzas.

My company gets Mellow every now and then for the office. They have a wide selection of types of pizza. My husband loves pizza and he really likes Mellow too. I usually eat it to go so I can’t comment much on the sit down atmosphere. Good local dive, worth your time.

I love rolling into college towns after long drives, and hitting up the local MM where I can indulge like I was 19 in beer and pizza pre-Celiac days(no gluten for me).but at Mellow Mushrooms I can pretend ‘it’s all good’. We were here on the busy Wednesday before NYE after a long drive. The fellow who was the host was kind and expedient. I was quickly bawled over by the yuppy feel of it, but that shows how much I knew about C-vile. I found our server curt and annoyed, but fast and attentive nonetheless. Even though it was advertised, there was no gf beer(cider is not the same!) and my gf pizza was brought to me in a giant to-go box at a small table in the middle of the room. I appreciate the sentiment with not having it contaminated– but at this point I’m just feeling uncomfortable, and don’t know where to put my giant to go box as it was crowded as hell. Suddenly I’m remembering the anxieties of being 19. Which is when trivia night started. That was frankly the best part, that and the actual pizza itself/really great gf crust and toppings. Honestly, I wouldn’t go here again, I didn’t feel welcome and I probably wasn’t.

IMHO, this is the best pizza in Charlottesville. Great dough, unique flavors, gluten-free options and a fun place to be! Every Wednesday they have Mellow trivia, which is definitely a must-do before you graduate. As a Batten alum, we used to order Mellow for all of our speaker events, and even though I was eating it almost weekly, it never got old, haha!

Not often in a city where I can get Mellow Mushroom so it’s always good to grab a pie. Just grabbed carryout so I could get back to work but the place was packed full. Not sure how long the wait for a table would have been but it was tough to even make it back to the bar for pickup. Got the Kosmic Karma and as usual they did not disappoint. Looks like it would be a good place to grab beers and a pizza with a group based on the crowd.

Upon reading my first review for mellow, I must slap myself silly considering I am a crack addict now and their holy shitakke pizza is my crack. This pizza gives me life. It gives me purpose. God bless.

Good pizza. Honestly good pizza especially for Charlottesville and great topping selection and love that you can get whole wheat crust, but as someone who’s spent a long time in the north east, manage those expectations, it’s no New York slice. That said it’s the best around and a cute atmosphere to boot.

Good food. Good service. More of a college dive bar atmosphere compared to the one that I normally go to in richmond. But it is in a location that caters to that being that it is on UVA corner. Overall good experience. Normally pretty crowded every time I have been on weekend.

Very friendly; decent food. Brought our kids and dogs here for lunch. They have a kid’s menu and brought the dogs their own bowl of water. When we asked where my husband’s sub was, after the rest of us had been served, they brought him a free one(because they had burnt the first one, which is why it wasn’t up with the rest of the food). The salads were good, the pizza was fine, the sub was apparently fantastic. All reasonably priced(even if we’d paid for the sub!!).

Very good place to eat a variety of subs and pizzas. Their menu is very varied and offers the classics while also having their own unique combos of pizzas and subs. Things to keep in mind for Mellow are their Beer Club and Tuesday Pint Night special with $ 2 pints! Mellow serves a HUGE variety of beers with their beer selection rotating every week or so, both local and from other brewing companies, so their Beer club is a good thing to jump on if you’re into trying out beers. You can think of it like gaining xp whenever you get your Beer Club card punched when trying out new beers! And $ 2 Pint Nights on Tuesdays are just a steal, through and through. Starts at 8pm and fills up FAST, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself waiting in line if you get there around 9 or 10. Some people get there to eat dinner at 7 and then already have a table when Pint Night starts, or I’ve found that the crowd dies down around 11pm.

While Mellow Mushroom isn’t the best option for pizza in Cville, I’d say it comes in a close second. I have never lived in a place with a Mellow Mushroom, but now that I’ve been, I can see why there is so much hype. I prefer to go to local places, but that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying it on a few occasions. I’ve gotten carryout pizza and dined in once. It is normally really crowded on the weekend, but not so bad that you have to wait a very long time for a table. I have tried the Mega Veggie without tofu and the Holy Shiitake Pie. Both pizzas were awesome! Their large Greek salad is enough for two-three people to share.
