Camden Grandview

The concierge staff are nice and friendly. However, the turnover is very large as they only pay for one member of permanent staff, so the atmosphere that builds when residents get to know them is rapidly lost as people move on from these agency jobs. Veronica is great though, couldn’t speak highly enough of her.
This week, I came home to find I didn’t have any water in the kitchen. I then learned this was because the maintenance staff apparently came to perform some (unwarranted) repairs on the water heater, this was somehow botched. I raised the complaint but gave them the benefit of the doubt, so didn’t ask for someone to come out late in the day (I don’t get in from work until around 7). They —ured me that it would be repaired first thing in the morning.
Next day, come home and it isn’t fixed. I don’t have water to wash food or clean plates, of which I don’t have any left. I have to go down to the concierge and ask for it to be fixed, obviously the maintenance people don’t want to come out at 19:30, I insist, so they say they’ll be here in an hour. I’ve been at work since 7:15 AM, so really need to eat. We’ll see if they turn up.
I’ve also had a request to have the microwave repaired and to stop leaking green fluid. Still waiting, 4 days later.
The trash is very poor too. There is a trash chute with no recycling facility other than badly labeled on the ground/​first floor. The trash room on my floor constantly smells, which pervades over half of the floor and the room is constantly full of other people’s bags of garbage.
My other main complaint is that residents here are obliged to pay for Time Warner Cable and are not allowed to use alternatives. Their cable is terrible, the service is woeful, far and away the worst I’ve ever experienced. I’ve had many problems with them and each time it’s taken hours to deal with it. The internet connection is poor at best, TWC’s DVR box is terrible, they give you re-​furbished machines which always break, so I’ve spent hours setting it up, recording shows only to lose them. Of course Camden won’t let me use a TV provider who offer a good service, so I’ve stuck with this until I move out. Which is a day getting closer and closer after 18 months of being here.
I’d also mention that generally, the communication here is poor. I just read on another review that there is a billiards room here? What? I’ve been here for 18 months and I didn’t know about that. I only figured out that there is a computer room and the theatre through word of mouth from other residents and I found out that there is a guest room yesterday. No communication of what is available here or how to reserve it, which provides for a sub-​standard experience.
Price-​wise, depending upon the time of year, these apartment complexes are much of a muchness and while not all others have a concierge, they don’t have the tired appearance of Camden that means you need the extra support level.
Edit; the guy came and fixed the issue in the kitchen. He said that his colleague saying he would fix it in the morning wasn’t sufficient and we should have known he would forget and told the leasing office/​concierge. Apparently the water wasn’t flowing due to a blockage of what looked like rust in the head, why he didn’t just suggest that as a remedy tonight or yesterday is apparently not relevant. We should have also known that this wouldn’t affect the flow of water to the dishwasher.

I’ve been here for two months and this is easily the nicest apartment I’ve ever lived in. It’s in a premium location within a few minute’s walk to Uptown Charlotte, with great views of the city. The building has all the best amenities and the staff here is wonderful. The rent is very competitively priced and the value is outstanding.
I highly recommend considering Camden Grandview when looking for an upscale apartment.
