One of my favorite places! I can’t believe it took me so long to find this place! Great atmosphere, bartenders are great, friendly and keep my drinks full. Small local kind of place but anyone is welcome.

After having driven by this place for six years, I finally checked them out a few days ago. I had always been curious about them since they have a British flag on their sign. So it turns out that they recently banned smoking in their building which is appreciated as I’m a non-smoker. There’s still a bit of a lingering cigarette smell in the air inside though(fyi for those who are sensitive). Its ambiance is cool with an interesting cabin like feel(wood beams and metal chandeliers). I felt like I was off the beaten path while there… like I had discovered it. The staff seemed genuinely nice including my bartendress Ashley. There were a few arcade games in a corner for those so inclined. I ordered the Cod Sandwich(which they pan-seared for me instead of how it normally comes fried — I appreciate their flexibility). I also got the Fish and Chips(just the way it should come — battered and fried). Both meals included fries which was delicious(seasoned so well) and what tasted like a homemade tartar sauce(really good). While I was waiting on my takeout order, I wandered out back. It turns out they’ve got a cool, laid back outdoor dining area(much of which is covered by a tent). My dad and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals(which we shared) and I recommend what we got for sure. If you come by, the place is really set back from the street so be careful not to drive by.

Smoking still allowed inside. Tuesday night trivia. Play pool or darts and hang with some locals.

Stag Erin is exactly what I’ve been looking for since I moved here almost five years ago. There are two other bars that I love as much as Stag Erin, both of which were the local pubs in my former home towns. A local pub is exactly what this is. Small and tucked away, it doesn’t look like much from the road. For the longest time, I though it was a private club, but one day I finally decided to come in and check it out. This is my kinda place, hands down. Very small, you can smoke inside, darts, pool, and a beer garden out back. It’s an old school pub, straight up. After a few visits, the bartenders remembered me and what I drink. They have a nice beer selection, good bar food, and even have a couple home brews made right in the back. With the indoor smoking, Stag Erin clearly appeals to a smaller audience, but that is one of the things I love about it. They do their own thing, and if you’re down with it, you’ll love it. I’ve been going for a few weeks now, and have already gotten to know several regulars and employees. That’s what makes this place so great. I can go in, and from the moment I walk into the bar, I’m with friends. Stag Erin is my new hometown pub, and I look forward to many years of regular business.

No matter how you pronounce it; «Stag Erin» «Staggering» or «Stagger In» this is on my favorite dive bars on James Island. Stag Erin has a wide selection of cold beer and full bar stocked with some good liquors for your beverage needs. The bartenders here really know how to pour stiff one! But not only are the bartenders great at pouring the drinks up; they are also friendly and not bad at all on the eyes. Stag Erin is a great place to meet up with friends at happy hour, shoot some pool, put a few songs in the jukebox, or catch a game on the television.

Great beer, tequila, and wings! The bartenders are awesome, and Marion is hilarious. My favorite James Island bar!
