Moon Pie General Store

This place is so much fun! They have a nice moon pie selection, but there are also lots of different bottles sodas, old fashioned candies, and ice cream. Definitely a neat place.

Tourist stop with prices to match. Get your moon pie, and say you were there. Nothing to write home about. What else can I say? A shop that tries harder than the rest.

Cute shop and nice staff but my shrink wrapped box of 12 moon pies I bought for coworker’s only came with 10. What the heck?
You’re probably better off getting them individually since you don’t save on the price.

Why 4 stars for not having gluten-​free moon-​pies, a friend of mine loves them so decided to stop in and grab some cool stuff. They have t-​shirts, koozies, moonpies, even an ice cream bar to grub at! Also you can pose with several items and costumes in front of a huge moon-​pie store.
This place is real close to the city market and if your going here, parking is quite hard to find but there is a lot to do in this area.

Since the standard issue flavors are expectedly overpriced here, especially individually, went with a harder-​to-​find salted caramel and was very unimpressed. Should’ve left that childhood memory alone.

Cute store. The staff wasn’t very friendly and one unfriendly girl made a snide comment stating we were the only people to «admit» we were from Michigan. Yah not going back there ever.

AMAZING ice cream. Go for happy hour and get the peach or the cappuccino ice cream.

Pretty neat little store. My daughter and I were hanging out in the area and headed into the General Store for something cold and refreshing. It was hard navigating a kid past all the sweet treats and overflowing bounty of Moon Pies… But if you make it to the back, you’ll find an old fashioned ice cream bar. We opted for a couple of strawberry slushies (they also had mango) which ran $ 2 each for about 16 oz. Pretty darn tasty! They tasted like they had real fruit, not some crappy can of artificial flavor. Definitely worth stopping back in next time I’m by the market.

If you like moon pies, this place is the store for you. They also have tons of nostalgia candy, souvenirs and various odds and ends. I think they had an ice cream counter in there as well.

Are you a Moon Pie aficionado? This is the spot for you. They have mini Moon Pies, regular Moon Pies, double decker Moon Pies, Moon Pies in banana and orange flavor. Moon Pie emblazoned swag. It’s definitely a fun, unique little store!

This place was much more of a tourist trap than what I’d been hoping for. Plenty of over-​priced touristy souvenir and vintage reproduction items. They did have a great selection of moon pies and moon pie related souvenirs. I picked up a few fun things. The highlight for me was the soda cooler where they had a few nice glass bottle selections, such as classic RC Cola. They also had some locally made ciders and juices, which were delicious.

Moon Pie deserves a visit every time you’re down near the market.
This «general store» lives up to its name. It has more candy than you can process, although the actual moon pies were a bit tough for me to find.
I took a few pictures of my wife pretending to kiss the giant moon near the back of the store (great photo opportunity), and we shared a moon pie ice cream sandwich. Everything in the store is very reasonably priced.
Stop by and pick up something small and sweet.

This is a great store. It is a little touristy but very cool. I had a moon pie ice cream sandwich one day which was excellent and the moon pie milk shake another. Both were very good.
I give this place 3 stars because it is a neat place with good stuff but it is a bit gimmicky. I also did not like the fact they had commercial ice cream. The place is small and generally busy during the summer days.

Look friends, this place could be named «The Moon Pie Field of Live Land Mines,» and I’d still run in with reckless abandon.
It’s nostalgia, for chrissakes. My childhood is sold here, and at a fair price.
Magnets, book lights, keychains, paper weights, ponchos, bottle openers, address books, motorcycle helmets, pocket tissues, dog collars, lava lamps, coasters, rollers, roller coasters… this store has everything, and everything bears the Moon Pie logo. It’s also rocking a local soda cooler, full-​scale photo backdrop and a convenience store-​quality deli counter that’ll pack a hot dog, bag o’ chips, RC cola and a mini Moon Pie in your gullet for $ 6.
If you’ve just come for the pies, there are multi-​flavor packs, decorative boxes and singles (65¢) and double deckers (85¢) in flavors you know, and those you don’t. Strawberry? Orange? CHIMPANZEE? Chimpanzee was sold out, or maybe it didn’t exist, I can’t remember.
Sure it’s nestled off Market and if you’re not trampled by tourists of carriage horses, you probably went broke buying sweetgrass roses from Gullah youth, but it’s definitely worth a visit — if only to say you went.
I went. And I got my banana double decker. And I will go back.

This is Moonpie heaven. If you are in Charleston, stop by. I got $ 40 worth of goods and I regret not getting more. There is a large selection of eclectic candy. It is also a tourist trap but a very tasty trap.

If you’re looking for something moonpie related and in Charleston, this is your place.
It’s located in a heavily touristy area close to City Market. It’s a fun shop to browse through. Lots of Moonpie memorabilia including every kind of moonpie possible as well as tshirts, mugs, etc!
They also sell some random items towards the back.
As far as customer service goes, there was a young girl behind the register at the front but no offer of help. And it wasn’t even packed.
Overall, I would stop by again.

Tourist Trap Alert! But seriously, if you don’t love Moon Pies, then you have no soul. My wife wanted to go here because her grandmother loved Moon Pies, but she had NEVER had one. (Yes, my jaw dropped to the floor as well.) So we went to the mecca of all things Moon Pie.
As others stated, it feels like a true old school General Store, with an ice cream shop in the back doling out cones, shakes, and hot dogs if you want something savory. I didn’t. I only wanted to take Moon Pies home. And they have the traditional — vanilla, chocolate, banana. But then there’s the Double Decker Moon Pies. The phrases «double decker» and «Moon Pie» together can only mean deliciousness. And these were in unique flavors — lemon, strawberry, and orange. And then there were small-​pack Moon Pies — think Reese’s Cup — in both peanut butter and mint flavor. Did we buy every single option of Moon Pie available? You betcha!
After various Moon Pies, Moon Pie schwag, and family gifts, we spent over $ 90 at the Moon Pie store. We weren’t regretting it one bit … we just wondered what it said about us that we spent that much at the freakin’ Moon Pie store.
And when we got to the hotel, my wife had her first Moon Pie — a Banana Moon Pie — and LOVED it. She does have a soul after all. (Just kidding sweetie!)

Stepping into the Moon Pie General Store is like stepping back in time to when life was simpler. They have old time candy and an old time ice cream shop. To make it even better, they offer Moon Pies in every flavor available! They also have all kinds of cool toys and nostalgic memorabilia. If you have kids or a kid inside of you, I highly recommend stopping by this gem.

Yes, it really does feel like a general store, when you get past the BOXES of moon pies, in assorted flavors, stacked to the ceiling. Never having eaten one, I had no choice. Like peanut butter, this must be an acquired taste ~ to be developed before adulthood. (Was that politically correct?)
We purchased a cute Curious George puzzle for our grandson, and wandered on our nostalgic way. Yes, it sold things that reminded me of my youth and made me smile.
