La Quinta Inn & Suites Charleston Riverview

I have to agree with the other Unilocalers here; do not stay in this hotel. The hotel was not that nice to begin with when I arrived, but before I left it was even worst. I was in town on business and decided to stay here because I get a discount at La Quinta hotels. I could have paid a little more and stayed some place nicer; I did love the location on the marina with California Dreaming in walking distance from the hotel.
The first night was ok; check-​in when smoothly, got to my room and it seemed clean until I let down the spread and there was makeup on the sheets, and the bed was very uncomfortable. Anyway I get up the next morning and they do have a meager breakfast buffet with waffles, coffee, cereal, boiled eggs, and bread; nothing really extravagant. So I go to work and come back really tired from not getting much sleep the night before to find that the hotel is flooded. I go up to my room and it is actually raining in my room from a busted boiler they have on the roof; luckily none of my belongings were destroyed. The hotel did move me to a new room which was in their other building this a building with the rooms on the outside of the hotel, no big deal; except you can hear everyone walking by and every car and boat driving by. The next morning I was very happy checking out. I’ve got to come back to Charleston this week and I think I’ll stick to the Hampton Inn instead; it’s only $ 20 more a night without a discount.

If I could give a lower score I would. Hair in the bed, leaky faucet, horrific beds, slow elevators, sorry maintenance staff, rude breakfast staff, etc. I will never go to another La Quinta again after this experience.

Arrived at 10:30pm on a Thursday night with 9 people, and 3 dogs. Reserved 3 rooms 30 minutes prior after a catastrophe at the hotel we booked months ago that was absolutely disgusting. Everything seemed great, lobby was pretty, staff is nice, pets allowed with no fees. Then my husband and I get to our room and the floor is soaking wet as well as both beds, the phone doesn’t work to call downstairs so we decide to take the elevator down. The elevator got stuck and they didn’t even attempt to help us get out. My husband pried the door open and we stepped up about 2 feet and out of the elevator (sweating). Got to the lobby then didn’t seem to bat an eye when we told them we were the ones that were stuck. We told them about the wet floors and they switched our room. Stepped into the new room, light didn’t work right off the bat. Fast forward 1 hour, we get into one of the beds and the sheets are stained with brown/​red splattered spots (barf). We slept in the other double (all the beds are full size) bed. All in all, this is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at and its the 2^nd one I’ve tried in Charleston in one night. I’m so annoyed I want to stop my vacation and circle back home to my clean, dry, splatter free bed. Rant over.

This place needs to get rid of every human working there and start with a clean slate. The worst staff ever. My bathroom didn’t have a shower curtain up, so I ask the cleaning lady to get me one, she never came back…2 hours later I went down to tell the front desk that I didn’t have one. They finally got me one and I put it up myself.
Oh — and the lady that runs the breakfast area is the RUDDIEST person that I have ever encounter. She lacks a lot in the friendly department. She should be the first one to go.

Made a reservation not knowing the hotel, they offered a river view, what a joke not worth the additional cost could barely see the river. Checked into room the bath tub was filthy and hairs from the previous occupants all over the tub and floor, called front desk they said they would send someone to clean it there was also only one towel in the room, we waited 20 minutes nobody came to clean the bathroom we asked to change rooms we had to go back to the desk they had such a care less attitude it was insulting.
In the second room, the phone did not work and the ice machine on the first floor (where the room was) also did not work, had to go to the third floor for ice. The pillows were no at all comfortable. The hotel overall is filthy, elevators, floors, walls.
We checked in late, otherwise I would not have stayed here, but for sure never will again.

This place is dirty. I don’t dare touch anything. Hoping the interior sheets are safe.

I spent four days here and in the most squalid conditons. I arrived late and was given a room in a separate building of the hotel to the back. I got there and the room door was propped open, the curtains closed, and the room was dark. Decided I did not want to subject myself to risk by going in with all my stuff. The desk agent at 1a.m. was very rude (first name starts with T).
She transferred me to another room. I had to grab all my stuff and carry it up stairs to the main landing where the elevator is. When I got to my room on the opposite side of the building and a different floor I saw the room did not have curtains on the 6 fot by 5 foot windows.
I called desk and when I asked T to please do something about this she hung up.
I travel a lot on business and have been to other La Quintas. Nothing prepared me for this place. Socks, broken furniture, and soda cans littered the walkways from my room. The pain was chipped and peeling. My room looked like it hadn’t been renovated in 10 years. It had a weird chemical smell. I could go on but you get the idea.
NEVER AGAIN!

Pro: close to charleston, good view on harbor, free shuttle every 2 hours to charleston
Cons: old sock under bed sheets, dirty shower, not enough towels, weird smell, mediocre service, construction going during stay, crappy room

The gm of the hotel ultimately refunded my night’s stay (didn’t ask for that) and did his best to address my concerns. While my stay was still not pleasant, I still appreciate him taking the time to listen and respond.

Two letters. N-​O. Please do yourself a huge favor and stay at a different hotel, even if it costs an additional $ 5-​$ 10. (I wish I could give zero stars on this)
First, this hotel has two buildings, the one the show on their website and the one they don’t. The other one is outside, and believe me, you know it. You hear cars, marina crew, intoxicated guests at the same hotel, everything. It does not make for a plesant slumber.
As for the room, it’s small, damp and looks (and smells) in desperate need of a cleaning. The room we stayed in, did not even have a telephone! It also didn’t have a trash can, and only one set of towels, with the washcloth already looking rather used. I used my phone to call the front desk to explain and the lady just laughed and said «you ain’t got no phone?! That’s crazy» (still, they never brought one). In addition, the bath tub bottom was stained black, the mirror had stains/​marks all over it and our lampshade looked like it lost a few battles. The desk chair, if you want to call it that, looked like a beach chair with wheels and it was too wide so you couldn’t walk past it, you had to move it completely out of the way. It is a poorly planned hotel with completely outdated items. Also, you can’t access their wi-​fi and when I called about that, they couldn’t tell me what to do.
Positives: free breakfast and a shuttle to downtown every 2 hours — but make sure you call because sometimes they forget.
Overall: please do yourself a favor and choose a different hotel. There are many others and ones that are pet friendly as well.

There are two sections to the hotel, an older part and a newer part. My review covers the older section. I have a tendency to stay at La Quintas when traveling with one of my four footed friends. This one was by the far the worst I have seen. The furniture looked like it had been around since the 70’s.scratched and torn. The carpet was so worn it was bare in spots. The room smelt of dust and I had to go out and by air freshener to make it tolerable. I had to ask for amenities like a waste basket. There are no trash cans outside the older section and access to the rooms is from the outdoors. There is an elevator but it was broken the whole 3 days I was there. Contrary to what another review I never heard any barking dogs but there was the flashing light from the marina that was on all night. They didn’t change out the dirty towels… the towel for the bath mat was torn. The bed had a huge indentation in it … the tub was dirty and the hairdryer was covered in dirt. I could keep going on… There was dust an inch thick on the night table. If I could have changed hotels I would have. I did have to use the facilities in the main hotel lobby — there were paper towels all over the floor and I had to ask for toilet paper.
Disgusting …

To start things off, the first morning we jump in the shower and get out to realize we don’t have any towels in the room. It then took the hotel staff an additional 20 minutes to bring them.
That night we come back, we find out someone apparently checked us out of our hotel room a day early so when we can’t back to our room the room keys didn’t work.
The room clearly wasn’t cleaned properly– there was hair still in the shower and coffee stirs on the floor.
To top it all off, when we went to check out we realized we were way overcharged for our second nights stay. In our confirmation email (and what they quoted us) stated $ 95 and they charged us $ 188. They did refund us the difference but it was a total inconveince. That has NEVER happened to us at any other La Quinta.
Oh, and the yogurt at breakfast had expired two days before and I’m pretty sure my milk in my cereal was bad.
Our next trip to Charleston, we will definitely be finding somewhere else to say. That says a lot considering we’re members of La Quinta.

Great location but one can do a lot better. On the plus side, The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were just right. On the negative side, moldy bathtub and bathroom. Inattentive front desk and maintenance service. Small, dingy room with a tiny window whose view of the river was forever blocked by the fog from the air conditioner and the dirty windows. Breakfast was mediocre. Best bet is to stay at the Holiday Inn Express directly across from this hotel. One last item, did I say no hot water? Took showers early in the afternoon and in the evening and the water was tepid at best.

Like all La Quinta this hotel is dog friendly. That’s the only perk. I have been Working in hotel consumer service for almost ten years in the napa valley and I cannot even fathom how unprofessional and rude the staff is here. And if you’re looking for a clean room and quiet nights sleep and that doesn’t smell of pee, then forget about it. Every time I pass the front desk they are arguing with a guest. Did I mention an employee tried coming into my room when I wearing nothing but a towel? luckily I had the flip latch on the door because the «do not disturb» sign and the pad lock weren’t enough. Oh it gets worse. After calling the front desk and trying to explain what had happen she starting talking on her radio while I was mid sentence. And it gets better. She had the decency to tell me that it was my fault. If that wasn’t the icing on the cake, they scheduled us to check out a day early. They again told us that it was our fault. My family are members of la Quinta and Marriott… However, while in Charleston we will no longer waste a dime here and I encourage everyone to bring their business elsewhere.

This hotel is ok. The rooms are a good size and ours was clean and did not smell. They did not clean it the next day, but cleaned it the day after that. We had to get towels at one point as we did not have enough. The pool was closed for 2 days for some reason. There is plenty of parking in the back and on the side.

I should have known better after staying one night in a LaQuinta in Columbus, GA years ago. Staff acted like I was a bother to them when I checked in. Our room was acceptable but could have used more soap and wash cloths. Beds were comfortable and the view of the harbor was nice through a sweaty and dirty window. Go elsewhere.

The biggest issue that we had with the hotel… only 3 towels and 1 washcloth for 4 people is ridiculous. We asked housekeeping numerous times and her only answer was that washcloths were a hot commodity. I’m not cool with sharing linens. Oh, only got one bar of soap… not enough with 2 adults and a teenage that loves to take showers.
Other issue, every evening we would come back to the room, our ac was switched to heat. In Charleston in July…
Location was just fine.

In retrospect, I would pay a bit more so that I could be closer to the downtown area. This place is across the bridge from the city. It isn’t too long of a drive, but my time in Charleston would have been twice as nice had I been down where everything is.
Speaking of location, upon check-​in, make sure that you are not down at the west end, near the boat storage place. The walls are thin, and the doors have gaps, so they let in a lot of sound. A LOT! That boat place opens up very early and they start running their machinery. It will make tons of noise, and sometimes vibrate your room. You’ve been warned.
This hotel has certainly seen better days. It is a bit rundown. The ice machines are giant, gurgling antiques and the washers and dryers are boxy, white scratch & dent specials from god knows where.
On a pleasant note, the staff seems to be very friendly, and while the place is worn down, it does appear to be clean and looked after. No complaints about what’s inside the room. Nice tv, strong wi-​fi, comfy beds, and good water pressure.

Jessica the lady at the front desk was very nice. That’s why this place is getting an additional star. From her alone. She deserves a raise.
From outside, the hotel looks nice. Inside is a different story. It is a bit outdated.
Once we walked into our room, it felt dirty. And sure enough it kinda was. For four people there was one trash can, three shower towels, and no refrigerator. The bathroom needs to be redone. It too was dirty.
But what did I expect? I did get a room for $ 84 per night with only an 8 minute drive to Charleston.

You’re not leaving… Fine… But remember, YOU’VE BEEN WARNED ! ! !
After my ONE STAR experience with a La Quinta in Savannah GA, you’d think I’d abandon the idea of returning to another La Quinta location. You thought wrong… I didn’t have that much of a choice but yeah, here we are back at another La Quinta.
A few hours before arriving in Charleston SC, we were using the mobile phone to find hotel; not as easy as I thought it would be, plus we didn’t really know the area (first time visiting). Our goal was to locate a hotel in or near the historic district. Most were filled to capacity and those that had vacancy were insanely expensive. I found a La Quinta just over the Ashley River (still very close to everything). SUCK IT UP GLENN, HOW BAD CAN IT BE?
Well, I sucked it up, bite the bullet and reserved a room (a room with one king bed)
The hotel looked like any other on the outside; a lovely marina view for the rooms on the front side of the building and highway for those facing the back of building. Entering the building was ehh; kinda dated and in need of modernization but not bad enough for us to run (yet).
We check in and naturally we request a marina view. She apologized she couldn’t accommodate that request because they are full. No problem since we were last minute. We head to the room and turns out we DO have a marina view, but what we don’t have is a king sized bed… nope, we have two separate small beds. I head back to the front desk and request a room change to a king bed. She says they have no vacancies and certainly no more king beds. Ridiculous.
Things aren’t ONE STAR levels yet but after our night out in town we returned to our room with two little beds. I stay up quite late and it wasn’t until 3 in the morning that I decided to finally climb into bed. The room was dimly lit from the television and I barely notice something on the pillow next to me… WHAT IS THAT? I don’t really want to know but human nature go the best of me and I turn on a light. OMG it’s blood spots (or at least that’s what it looked like). Oh NASEAU…
I didn’t complain to the front desk because I was furious and it was 3 am but I should have known better to stay away from La Quinta. Just like my Savannah GA visit, I checked out early and called that 800 number. They offered the same resolve as in GA (a voucher for a free night). NO WAY, NEVER, AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN… GIVE ME MY MONEY… THIS PLACE WAS DISGUSTING.
