Wild Bird Center

This place is great. We shopped for wild bird supplies here during our time in Chapel Hill on 5+ occasions, usually combined with a run to Trader Joe’s. The have a variety of feed mixes and specialty feeds like nyjer, millet, peanuts, etc., in various size bags and in bulk bins. They also have an array of beautiful bird baths, houses, suet blocks, and feeders ranging from the artistic to the hardcore squirrel-​proof variety, and the supplies you need to put them up. They have a small yet well-​curated selection of binoculars suited to birding.
Additionally, they have lots of gifts for the birder in your life (or to treat yourself): books, jewelry, accessories, art, and pretty things.
The most important feature is probably the staff. The owner and all other staff are crazy nice, answer questions in a detailed and honest manner, and are eager to help you figure out what you want or need to up your backyard birding game. They also have a loyalty program where you get a bit of cash back, which is a great incentive to shop locally. I definitely miss this place now that we’ve moved!

You may choose between pre-​packaged and bulk seed. Lots of bird-​friendly accoutrements.
What’s not to love?

I love this place. The owner and staff are all so nice and really helpful in answering questions about birds you’ve seen or choosing items to entice more birds to your feeders. They even helped me to win the battle of the squirrels!
