Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center specializes in auto repair and maintenance for imports and domestics. We are the first hybrid certified repair shop in the Triangle. We are able to service all hybrids from Prius to Hybrid Civics and Camry. We’ve been recognized as the best auto repair in the Triangle by readers of the Indy, Chapel Hill News and Chapel Hill magazine.

History

Established in 1953.

Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center has been servicing Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham for 60 years. We have preserved a culture of small town customer service and mixed in state of the art auto repair. We have five locations in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Northern Chatham, and Durham. We are a national leader in sustainable businesses practices and the first Green Plus Certified auto repair facility in the country. We are widely recognized as the Best Auto repair shop in the Triangle having been voted Best of by the readers of the Indy, Chapel Hill Magazine, and the Chapel Hill News, We are the only independent auto repair shop in the Triangle certified to work on hybrid vehicles.

In his 20 years on the job, Chris Whitehead has seen Chapel Hill Tire’s dedication to customer service tested and proven over and over again. He believes that Chapel Hill Tire’s strongest asset is our commitment to doing what is right, whether that means our adaptation to green technology like hybrid cars and environmentally friendly oil or our offer of quality extended warranties. He trusts his friendly, outgoing employees to act with that integrity at all times and give customers the high-​quality care they deserve. I had a great experience at chapel hill tire. They were able to accommodate my busy schedule, and even drove me to work in the morning after dropping my vehicle off. Their work was very professional plus they didn’t push any unnecessary services on me. For these reasons, I will always prefer to go here instead of a discount auto chain. Will be back again in 6K miles for my free tire rotation.

I needed an inspection to pay my taxes and made an appointment three days in advance. They were very accommodating to service my car outside of 9 – 5 work hours (essential). My appointment was 7:30am on a Monday morning, I arrived at 7:20am and they opened the door for me and took my car early without me even asking. There was a coffee machine, large clean waiting room, and the experience was effortless. Check-​out was simple and I got to work much earlier than I had planned.

They saved my day today. I was borrowing a friend’s car. He warned me not to roll down the window… So, of course… I rolled down the window. It wouldn’t go back up. I knew it wasn’t the motor, but likely a broken button. First I went to Pep Boys, and the told me that their services would start at $ 250 to take the door panel off. Praying for a better quote, I drive down to Chapel Hill Tires. One of the employees immediately followed me out, rolled the window up, taught me how to do the same thing, and refused payment. AMAZING!!!

Great overall experience at Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center. The courtesy shuttle was just what I needed to get me around during the time my car was being serviced. The entire staff was friendly and helpful as well as quick and efficient. I’d use them again for all my car care needs. Thumbs up CH Tire!

I went today to get a patch on a flat tire as a first time customer, and I was very impressed! Friendly, very reasonably priced, and very fast service — I’ll definitely be back.

Durham, NC
brought in car for new muffler. Was told it would cost a total of $ 240.
They found the whole exhaust system rusted and needed replacement.
Their charge for cost of parts: $ 534, not including labor. Found the same parts new online for $ 186.
They also said the car need all types of other work, but we had brought the car to the dealer a few months before for a complete checkup and everything was fine. Only drove maybe $ 1000 miles between the dealer checkup and these guys.
They feed you the good old boy Southern hospitality bit, while sticking a knife in your back.
Should have known better than to authorize the work before doing my homework.

My husband and I have been taking our car here for a while, and after today we won’t be back. We’ve had a couple oil changes, and paid for an inspection when we bought a new (to us) car. I would not recommend them to anyone, and I don’t trust them one bit.
Last Monday, my husband brought the car in for an oil change. He received a call saying that some additional work needed to be done. We were aware that this work would need to be done soon, so we went ahead and took care of it. $ 1700 later, he picked up the car. When he got home, I wanted to take it for a test drive. As soon as I walked outside, I noticed a burning plastic type of smell. He said it could be several things, so we waited to see if it would stop. It didn’t, so he decided to take it in today to have them take a look. Apparently it’s a leaky seal where the oil cooler hooks up. Of course, it’s only a coincidence that we developed a leaky seal THE SAME DAY we took the car in for work. There is no possible way it could be anything they’ve done. And of course it’ll be $ 350 to fix. Not their fault, not even remotely possible that they did this, just a freaky coincidence.

Recently had a serious electrical problem with my car two days before a major trip of mine. Although they were unable to fix the problem in time, and had a few mishaps along the way, they really went the extra length to make sure their customer is happy. I still made my trip through some rental assistance from them, and they called me regularly to update me on the car. Although this isn’t typical, it is an example of how they will take care of their customer’s where other places may just leave them hanging. Chris and Avery at the West Franklin Chapel Hill Tire are great people to work with and I will definitely be coming back knowing that they will do their best to keep their customers happy. The diagnosis fee they charge seems to be something typical that a lot of places are doing nowadays, but it is always good to get a second opinion if you feel that their estimate is too high (my initial estimate was $ 800!)

Chapel Hill Tire is alright, but can sometimes be a pain in the butt.
Pros: Most of the mechanics are really nice and helpful, they have coupons that they put on their website, as well as special email coupons and additional discounts for UNC students, plus free tire rotation. The prices are pretty reasonable and they have convenient locations in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
Cons: Some of the mechanics can be a bit less than friendly. They are very, very busy too — now that they are pushing appointments, its pretty much impossible to get your car looked at quickly. I had a leaky tire and I just wanted to put the spare on, which I can totally do myself. When I went to take the tire off though, the bolts had been put on so tight after my last rotation that no one (not me, not my husband, not a friend) could get the tire off. All I wanted was to stop by and have them take the tire off. Should be easy, right? I called to check and was told that 1) I had to leave my car, and 2) no one would get to it for at least 4 days. Since I sort of needed my car, I ended up just putting air into it twice a day until I could get an appointment. Very frustrating. They will also try to push not-​entirely-​necessary services on you, so take their recommendations with a grain of salt!
Will I keep taking my car there? Probably, but I’m pretty lazy. They’re a decent place, but they could definitely do better.

I came here because my car wasn’t starting, and they misdiagnosed my car even though I noticed my battery was corroded. They ran several tests on my car, raising my bill to several hundred dollars, just to tell me that it was my battery despite me suggesting that as a potential solution. I will not go back here again for car service.

I’m not much of a car person…
Q: What kind of car does your boyfriend drive?
A: Uhm; a red one?
But I: do: know that this place can offer a great selection of tires. And they’re also adept at repairing your (read: my) less great so-​I-​thought-​I could-​scrimp-​on-​these tires. Once, I came here with 3 (three!) nails in a single tire. Don’t ask how I managed to swing that one — it’s not like I’m off-​roading much in my little 2-​door 4-​cylinder. Anyhow, they fixed me up and I didn’t have problems with a single patch. The mechanics are sweethearts too. While waiting one morning, I was in need of my daily caffeine dose, but the front coffee pot was already empty. The sympathetic guy at the desk went to the back room and offered me up some of their own stash.
They actually have 3 locations, so check the website to see what’s most convenient for you (and for coupons!).

These guys are not only tire specialist, but if you need an oil change they can do that for you too. They also have a repair department for engine fixes, alignments and tire rotations.
The employees are friendly, professional and will help you find the most suitable and economical tires for your car, truck or SUV. They also have used tires if you don’t want to buy new cars just yet; but believe you me, getting new tires as soon as possible is worth it because, I’ve gone the «used tire» route and those things don’t last but a little while.
It’s a nice clean waiting area, and they’ve got the TV going while you wait or you can read a magazine and even chat with the guys at the desk for a bit.
