H&R Block

Been using these guys for over 4 years and will never go back due to the «peace of mind» coverage not covering their mistake, I will never go back.

In a bind to cut corners this year, I turned to H & R Block because of their discounted $ 43 joint return. Our shopping around really paid off this year because our accountant Mr. Charles Thompson was extremely knowledgable and was able to save us a ton of money. They have this sale up until the end of Feb.
The secretary was courteous and offered me coffee. I went in a little overdue for my afternoon nap. :)
We didn’t wait long and Mr. Thompson suggested that I not include my 1098 (student loan interest) because doing so would have switched us to a more expensive return (the 1040A). He saved us ~$ 80 that way. I also had the misfortune to have my social # apparently stolen by an illegal. I was sent a faulty W90. He recommended that we include it because it was a low wage anyway and not including it could lead to an audit. Including it only cost $ 3 in taxes. He said he’d seen this before. He also told me where to report it.
His demeanor was friendly and upbeat. He said he’d been doing taxes for H & R Block for 15 years. He also suggested that if I were to pay $ 80 I could take the same classes he took and now teaches and that they hire people straight from his class if I wanted to work there. Not my cup of tea but I know lots of people who with some simple work could acquire these skills and work there.
My previous accountant Mr. Duskin didn’t find the same tax breaks. (But that’s a whole different review.) So H & R Block’s people have integrity that goes a long way.
