The South Metro Denver Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is dedicated to assisting small businesses achieve their goals of growth, management improvement and financial success. Our office serves Arapahoe, Douglas, and south Jefferson counties, providing confidential and FREE one-on-one consulting, as well as free or low-cost business workshops, to local entrepreneurs. Our counseling services are conducted by a team of entrepreneurs and industry experts.
History
Established in 1987.
The SBDC program is the federal government’s largest and most successful management and technical assistance program for small businesses. It is a partnership between the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and America’s Small Business Development Center Network (ASBDC). The ASBDC provides services to more clients annually than all other SBA programs combined.
The first SBDC programs were funded in the 1970s. The Colorado SBDC came into existence in 1987 and was hosted by the Community Colleges of Colorado until 1989. In 1989, the Governor’s Office of Business Development (now the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade) took over the program and is still the current host.
The Colorado SBDC Network now consists of 14 full-time centers and more than 50 part-time satellite offices across the state.
Meet the Manager
Marcia M.
Manager
Marcia McGilley serves as the Executive Director of the South Metro Denver Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the satellite office, the Aurora SBDC. She has jump started over 1000 companies and she reads approximately 100 business plans per year. She has owned 6 companies of her own as diverse as a marketing consulting firm, a training and development firm and a murder mystery theatre troupe.
She is a Founding Member of the Rocky Mountain Region of the Cleantech Open (CTO) business competition. Her expertise lies in business launching, strategic planning, marketing and Cleantech. For two years, she served as Regional and National Workshop Chair for CTO.
Marcia joined the SBDC in 2008, leading her team of ten consultants to be named the 2011 U.S. Small Business Administration — Region VIII — «SBDC Center of the Year for Excellence and Innovation.» Marcia was named the 2012 State Star Award winner (the SBDC employee of the year for Colorado).
