Killed the Deli The recent remodel to open a restaurant killed a very nice deli experience. Seating is now limited with too few tables that deters groups. The tables are in the open near the incoming traffic-pattern, which is distracting. …and it’s COLD in the winter. Generally a negative and disappointing experience compared to the prior configuration. HyVee used to rule the deli dine-in business and has now traded that dominance to try and compete with successful trendy neighboring hot spots. That isn’t going to happen. Don’t expect to be taking a huge market share from Zepps.

Ordered groceries online and had them delivered to my home from HyVee. I can’t express how appreciative I am of this service. My life is as busy as everyone else, but getting groceries often can take hours out of my life I just don’t have. After 15 minutes of creating an online list, then 15 minutes of putting groceries away, HyVee just gave me back precious time I would not otherwise have had. Please, please don’t let this service go, it is so valuable. The young man who delivered our groceries provided excellent customer service and we received the items we had ordered. Much appreciated!!!

Used«Hy-Vee Aisles» for the first time. Ordered $ 270 worth of groceries online yesterday and had them delivered this morning. Really awesome. My only complaint was I allowed substitutions for stuff not in stock. I guess I’m too picky because I wasn’t happy with any of the substitutions. My fault, not theirs though. To give you an idea of the substitutions they did: I ordered Vegas Dogs which are hotdogs the size of brats and I ordered brat buns to go with them. I needed them for a specific recipe. They substituted Nathan’s skinless hotdogs which are are about the size of my thumb and use a standard size hotdog bun. A fail for my recipe and a waste for my brat buns. I ordered Bigelow mint BLACK tea. They substituted Bigelow mint GREEN tea. I hate green tea. I hate it to the point I won’t drink it so now I have two boxes of tea that I’ll have to give away. They need a way to specify if substitution is allowed on an individual item basis instead of for the whole list.

This is an extremely well-run store. Friendly staff, great organization, 24-hour, wonderful parking and location. They have Chinese food, pizza by the slice, a diner, a Starbucks. I bet there are some people who make an evening of browsing around, having dinner and a coffee or other drink at the Starbucks. There are neighboring restaurants, health stores, bars, etc. Great place all around.

Very clean, friendly service, and great food. I eat at the buffet restaurant part of this Hy-Vee store often and every time it has been a great experience .The cashier is very professional. The food and salad bar is very fresh. The whole store is very clean with friendly and helpful employees. I recommend this Hy-Vee to everyone. You will walk away happy.

By far my most favorite Hy-Vee! Unbelievable variety: bakery, produce, deli, etc.

This is for the Chinese food. Best Hy-Vee Chinese in all of: Iowa City, Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Marion, and the Quad cities. Every Hy-Vee Chinese I try is NOTHING compared to Edgewood road. I make all my friends from out of town come here at some point or another, because no one believes when I say how superior it is to all other locations. PERIOD. Also the salad bar is better here. I won’t get salads at any other locations because nothing is ever fresh.

Having moved from CR to the west coast, I now appreciate Hy-Vee more than ever. Whenever I am back, this is the store I shop at and am amazed at how much selection there is and how clean and spacious the store is. Also, cashiers are fast and everyone is friendly.

This review is actually for Hy-Vee as a restaurant. We had steered clear of Hy-Vee’s Chinese food after my in-laws tried some at the Collins Road location and did not have a good experience. After seeing a long line of people waiting for Chinese at the Edgewood Road location, we started to reconsider, though. Since moving to Iowa almost a year ago, we have been pretty disappointed with the overall quality of the Chinese food. So we were really surprised to find a solid option in a supermarket. I had the sesame chicken(the best of everything that I tried), the orange chicken(very good), and tried some of my wife’s Mongolian beef(also quite good). The egg roll was decent, but the fried rice was bland and a bit disappointing. Overall, I would certainly recommend the Chinese food at this Hy-Vee.

This is one of the best Hy-Vee locations in the Cedar Rapids area, in my opinion. It’s never overly busy, they have plenty of self-check lanes, a great wine section and the staff knows their stuff. If you buy something at this location, you get a gas discount for the nearby gas station, which is a bonus.

This is a bad grocery store. Unfortunately it’s about all there is in this town. The worst part of the story is the produce department. It’s awful! I have been told that they do not buy first level produce, and that is easy to believe. Their selection is bad and the quality is worse. For example today, I tried to buy thyme and jicama. They had no thyme or other common fresh spices, only box after box of basil and lemon grass. The jicama was either soft or out right rotten. The choice in this town other than this store is limited to target or Wallmart. Of course, I could go to Iowa city to the New Pioneer co-op, but that is 45 minutes from where I am right now. My only suggestion is to live in a town where there is a decent grocery store.

Hy-Vee does a great job across the board at most locations. I have been and continue to be a fan of the Edgewood store but have one major concern. The produce department leaves much to be desired. Very poor quality overall and frequently find items slightly spoiled. Many of our friends shop this store and all complain about the produce. Otherwise this and Hy-Vee stores in general do a great job.

This is actually a very good grocery store. The deli and Chinese food is good. I’ve been to a few Hy-Vee’s around Cedar Rapids and this one of the better ones. For a chain store this is a better good one.

In my life, I have never seen a better maintained supermarket. When I moved to SF from NY I thought Safeway was amazing. And, it is compared to Gristede’s & D’Ag & Associated. But compared to this Hy Vee its nothing. You can eat off the floors in the place and the staff genuinely wants to help you. The folks at Gristede’s should send a team out to study this place!
