Onyx Day Spa

Esthetician Grace Kim is a new addition to Onyx. She is a veteran in the beauty industry and is very personable and knowledgable. While there are lots of salons, it is hard to find someone with that kind of experience who can honestly tell you what you need. She does simple, natural skin care with the best clinical grade products and fast, painless waxing. I always look and feel great after an appointment with her!

I received a massage from Yuki. My appointment was with Stephanie, but Yuki is so highly rated so I didn’t mind at all. I suffer from fibromyalgia, and I had an amazing massage. I think she worked on my legs, but I fell asleep so eh, I prefer relaxing. My joints and muscles feel so great right now.

I came to onyx for the first time today and greatly enjoyed myself. Looking for a nail salon open on a Sunday was hard to begin with but to find a a good salon makes it that much more difficult. Turns out they’re open 7 days a week.
As I walked in I was welcomed by my nail artist and owner. Instantly found the atmosphere very warm and welcoming. They had a very nice waiting area with a verity of coffee, tea and water.
My nail artist took a different approach to my nails then I was used to and I enjoyed it. I asked for a natural look and that’s exactly what I got. She told me about the other services they provide and I got pretty excited to know they offer facials, massages and plenty more. In addition everyone has plenty of experience (15yrs if I remember right). I’ll be back for sure.

Again, another amazing work of art by Lynn today. My nails look so fancy. I feel like someone should take me out dancing so I can show off my bling’n nails. I’m so pleased everytime and always look forward to my next visit.

Went to Salina and she was really good very friendly and will defiantly be going back to her!

I was skeptical about eyelashes but my daughter convinced me to give it a try. Made an appointment with Vienna, I have to say I love them. I first tried a soft look extension and when I went in for a fill I told her I would like to try a fuller more dramatic look. Wow! I love them.

I have gotten my pedicures with Tina Weatherly for as long as I can remember. She is an amazing lady to talk to and welcomes you with open arms. She also creates the most amazing pedicure designs! Almost every design I pull off pinterest she can copy and create a work of art!

Let me start off that I trusted the review that said this place was a «hidden gem». But I had a completely different experience. I called ahead to make sure they could take me in, as I was in the area. After being reassured that yes they had time for my gel manicure, I made my way there. The place is clean and I was promptly greeted and I proceeded to wait for my nail tech for the gel manicure I requested.
This is when things started going downhill. The nail tech, Salina, could not «find» her tools and had to leave the store to get them from her car. This was strike one. I am all for clean tools and it struck me so odd that she didn’t have anything ready. She continued to remove my previous gel polish, very slow and steady and patently, which I appreciated and then asked what shape I wanted for my nails. I was under the impression that I would get my cuticles cut and my hands soaked etc but no sign of that. I thought perhaps she did things in a different order. I told her to shape my nails square, and after pointing out a couple of times if she could please shape it more, she didn’t completely satisfy my request. In the middle of this, another customer walls in and turns out she has an appointment with her in the next 10 min!
At this point I’m sitting there wondering when she will get to my cuticles ! As this is one of the best parts of the manicure to make it all look like a good job. But no… She simply pushed back my cuticles and NEVER once asked me if this was something I wanted or was I okay with that. I saw my nail tech begin to her antsy, Im assuming because the other customer was waiting for her appointment. I wanted a particular color and finally Salina brought out the one I wanted and she just began to paint my nails. Now, I’m a very polite person and I did not want to cause a stir so I stayed quiet as my nail tech continued to polish. NEVER did she ask about my cuticles. She was rushing, and she got polish several times on my skin. After a hasty polish job, she proceeded to just lightheartedly tell me she will only charge me for a color change ONLY since she «DIDN’T HAVE TIME for a full manicure».
She still had the nerve to just tell me that, as if it’s something funny and as if I didn’t just waste an hour of my day expecting a COMPLETE gel manicure but only got a color change that I could have done myself. Or they could have just told me since the beginning and I could have had a heads up or booked an appointment at a different time when they HAVE time.
Very disappointed.

My first time at Onyx and Salina gave me a mani & pedi. She does a great job cleaning and pampering. The paint job was PERFECT and lasted more than 8 days with no chipping, regular nail polish (not shellac, see pic at 7 days). I had a blast with Salina! It was fun girl time! :-)

This place is a hidden treasure, if you are looking for fabulous nails/​feet Selina is amazingly talented.
Ask for her when booking online or with the receptionist. The place is clean and parking is good.

I should preface this review with Sara was a DELIGHT and did a great job. My negative review is about everything else. When I arrived I couldn’t tell where i was supposed to check in. Finally a person helped me, I sat in this little entry way — but you can hear all the noise from the nail salon and the hair salon. Then personnel kept coming in and out of the door. My massage started late because «they couldn’t get the previous woman» out of the room??? During my massage I could hear the nail woman laughing, then someone started running the vacuum outside the door of my room, then people started talking outside the door. This was the least relaxing massage based on level of noise. But again SARA did a WONDERFUL job — if Sara worked somewhere else I would definitely go to her again.

Lynn has been making my feet happy for several years. When I am traveling and go to someone else I am always sorry. Lynn is talented, knowledgeable and will take great care of you!

When I got there for my facial appt, it was hard to tell who was the receptionist as it is not clearly defined. Awkward.
I was told that my esthetician Sarah (owner) was on her way. Half an hour later still no Sarah. When I went to the front desk to inquire, there was no one to ask. I left and didn’t get a call from anyone about my appt. I don’t know if Sarah ever made it.
What a waste of my time.

A hidden gem located at the Onyx Day Spa is a nice and extremely talented lady name Lynn Nguyen. Every time I see Lynn I am always pleased with the results. Today I was a mess. My nails were in desperate need of some TLC yet it was such a spontaneous decision to get a manicure. I called Lynn and she was so professional and nice. Even though she was super busy she still squeezed me in to accommodate my tight schedule. Within the tight time frame I had, she managed to give me a perfect Shellac Manicure. She helped me pick a color that I absolutely love! (I keep looking at my nails because they look so pretty.) She was so calm and kind and it really helped me to relax. Her station is so clean and her products are highest quality. Her prices are very reasonable too.
Apparently, Lynn is also very talented with skincare too! I’ve booked my next appointment for another manicure and this time I’ve added a facial and wax. I’m super excited!
Thank you Lynn! For taking such good care of me. You made my day!

I am currently sitting outside of this salon. On Wednesday, I used their online service as per their answering machine directions to book a pedicure for Sunday at 9:15 am. My appt confirmation email said to arrive 15 minutes early. So I arrived at 9am. It is now 9:30 and I am still sitting here as the place is still not even open. Online, it says regular hours in Sunday begin at 9am, so even if there was an issue with my appt, I don’t know why the store would not at least be open. I was hoping to wait it out because I have a gift certificate for here and would like to use it, but I’ll just have to go somewhere else. I’m 8 months pregnant and have a toddler at home — it’s not easy for me to get out of the house. I’m really disappointed to say the least.

Omg best place in the east bay for a message!!! Sara is my new best friend! Selena is amazing with nails she does the cutest nail designs ever! I love this place it’s so relaxing and has amazing people that work their with the most pleasant attitudes! It’s definitely the diamond in the ruff! You got to check it out!

I love my massages from Sara! She’s the owner of Onyx Day Spa and she is very skilled at what she does. Her massages really help with the tension in my shoulders and hips. The spa is clean, relaxing, and beautiful! Check it out.

Ok, so this is my first review due to the fact that an establishment has never compelled me to create one until now.
I’ve been a delivery driver for 8 years now and my back is starting to feel the affects of that. As a avid massage receiver, I’m currently a member at a «big chain» massage place close by and I wanted to try somewhere different. So I went to Onyx Day Spa for Valentines’s Day to treat myself and I can undoubtedly say that I’m lucky enough to have found a HIDDEN GEM in Castro Valley! Her name is YUKI, and I highly recommend getting a massage from her! She’s the lead massage therapist there and after my recent visit I clearly understood why. Her skill was top notch. She was able to address a number of my aches and pains seamlessly and effortlessly. She is extremely knowledgeable in her craft and every second of my 90 minute session was pure bliss. Also she’s very easy to talk to, down to earth, and genuinely seemed to care about my needs. She was so good that I’m going to cancel my membership at the «big chain» and come here exclusively! I was able to schedule an appointment a couple of days before which was very convenient. The place itself was nicely laid out and the owner Sarah was very welcoming. Thank you Onyx Day Spa and see you soon!

This is the very BEST place for massages! Make sure you book with Sara. she’s simply amazing. I’ve had massage at numerous spas and this is still the most outstanding I’ve ever had. Sara’s talent is that she is extremely in tune with her customers and their needs… if it’s just allover relaxation they’re looking for or have pains/​issues that need special attention.
The spa is inviting, relaxing, convenient and a great value. I’ve been coming for years and don’t think I’ll ever go anywhere else for my massage needs. I’ve also had manicures/​pedicures at Onyx and had wonderful experiences with those services as well. Congrats to the new owner!

I love Onyx Day Spa! I had a Hot Stone Massage with Sara. She was sooo amazing. The massage was wonderful. She does such excellent work! I went in with tons of back pain and her massage left me feeling wonderful. The hot stones feel amazing, I highly recommend Sara and her team. Sara makes sure you feel completely pampered, I can’t wait for my next one! Can’t wait to book a spa day with my girls. The facials are great there too! Everything is so luxurious. You’ll leave feeling relaxed and very happy you chose Onyx!
