I never liked going to hospitals but O’Brien After Hours made me change how I feel about going and getting a check up. Made a phone call to ask if I would be able to get seen by the doctor. Seeing that it is an urgent care I thought it would be similar to an ER where I would have to wait long hours but he said that there was only 1 person ahead of me if I were to come now. I only waited 30 minutes before I was next to be seen by the doctor. Very friendly, made you feel at home, reassured my issue, had a nice conversation, prescribed me meds, and I was on my way. Quick and easy transaction and he let me know that I was more than welcome to call and ask questions about my health issues if any were to come up. I would love for O’Brien After-​hours to be my primary go to facility.

Let me just say I never give one star before. This doctor has the worst hand writing and got me running around to different Walgreens. They won’t give my son the prescription because they can’t read it. By the 3^rd times, the doctor left already ! WTf? That mean my son is going another night without anY MED! Wtf ’ I paid 115 $ cash bro … Use a fucking computer next time bro… Send it in or have ur nurse do it when she ain’t doing shit

I decided to write this review, because I‘ve read the negative comments about Dr O‘Brien Senior. I visited him a few days ago. I had bronchitis and a fever.
First of all, they were opened on Sunday, and the waiting time was about 10 min.
The doctor himself was so personable and kind. He gave me prescriptions and some advice on what to eat while I‘m sick, and what vitamins to take.
It‘s not a fancy clinic, it is rather a neighborhood doctor, who not only treats you, but has a great caring attitude.

When my daughter fell over the back of the sofa and needed stitches in her head, Dr. O’Brien Jr was the one to help us. He was kind and calm, and helped me through such a traumatic experience. We came back in twice to have stitches removed, and every time he was kind and caring, informative and helpful. I came back a fourth time during a scavenger hunt, and asked if we could take a picture of my daughter (sans stitches) in her Doctor’s Coat costume to fulfill part of the hunt. Dr. O’Brien Sr. was very helpful in letting us use the clinic once more for a non-​medical picture. They went above and beyond, and I would definitely recommend their services.

I want to start off by saying that I really don’t like to write negative reviews of small businesses like this but in this one circumstance I feel the need to. I have been here once before and was seen by Dr O’Brien Jr. who did an excellent job. I will say that they have both been very nice and pleasant to deal with.
The other day my toenail was ripped back. I went to see Dr. O’Brien Sr. to see what I should do. As mentioned before I am happy with his communication. My concern began after he took my bloody tissues in his gloveless hand to throw them out. At first I thought that ok this isn’t that big of a deal because he is going to wash his hands and put gloves on. Well, he did do a cursory wash eventually after prodding around my toe. We decide to pull the toenail out the rest of the way. This is where I got really concerned. He did pour alcohol over my toe before getting ready to pull out the nail. Still no gloves (still not too big of a deal). He injects the first syringe of local anesthesia. There isn’t enough to numb my toe. He takes the same needle that has been poked into my toe at least 4 times and without wiping it off plunges it back into the bottle of anesthesia (I think it was lidocaine) three separate times trying to get more into the same used needle. I ask him if this is sanitary as this is the same bottle he uses for all his patients. He says yes and then proceeds to wipe off the needle with a bloody cotton swab (which did have some alcohol on it). I then ask him again if it is sanitary and he says «yes it is fine as we will be using most of this bottle.» After unsuccessfully trying to pull my nail (which isn’t big of a deal), we leave my nail somewhat attached and call it a day. That same bottle of anesthesia still had plenty left in it. I hope that the people before me didn’t have any kind of disease…

O’Brien Senior was extremely helpful. I went in as a followup to a sinus infection that wouldn’t go away. I felt like he was the first doctor I’ve had in years that actually listens to patients. Thank you for the help!
Flat rate for a doctor visit $ 100 and $ 50 for a followup– can’t beat that!

This dr is great. I really think his urgent care price and his after hour hours saved me from a trip to hospital. He does not take insurance. But realistically it ended up costing way less than deductible. He is an older dr who really lives his work. Awesome resource.

Dr. O’Brien (elder) was the nicest, most genuinely concerned western doctor I’ve ever met. I had a truly outstanding experience at this clinic. I typically avoid anything to do with western medicine. I eat 100% organic fruits and veggies and only pastured, sustainable meats (Weston A. Price diet). And I’m under regular upper cervical chiropractic care, but I recently got an infection that only got worse and worse and worse. I tried supplements and probiotics and fermented foods, but it was pretty bad and at the point where I was in extreme pain, I caved and decided to get medical care. I was pretty upset that I had to sacrifice my gut flora to take antibiotics, but it’s better than having a killer infection. Seeing Dr. O’Brien made my experience a positive one! Highly recommend!!!
Also, rates are very reasonable. I’m uninsured, and there was a flat cost of $ 100 for the visit.

Thank God for O’Brien After Hours Urgent Care!!! As a young, non-​insured, generally healthy person, the rare time I know I need to see a doctor scares the you know what out of me, simply because of the COST. The time came, I panicked, but thankfully my boyfriends mom mentioned this place (and there had even been an ad in the paper the same day for it, so… meant to be). $ 100 flat for most visits. I got there right when they opened, there was already one person ahead of me, so I got seen about 20 mins later (probably the average per person time). Dr. O’Brien (the elder) was the most caring doctor I’ve ever had, even WITH insurance! My visit was pretty straight forward, I left with antibiotics and a cream prescription as I had expected, but I never felt rushed or pressured.
Here’s the best part: the next day, Dr. O’Brien called and left a message wanting to check in, and suggesting to use some warm compresses. The NEXT day, he called AGAIN to see how everything was going! You cannot beat that service. I will be back!

I am so happy that I was able to find Dr. O’Brien! He was truly my savior. Upon arriving at 6 pm there were a few other people already waiting. Dr. O’Brien welcomed us all in with a nice smile and friendly welcome. His waiting room is small but cozy and really has a nice, relaxed feel.
The paperwork process was SO simple. It can be nightmarish filling out paperwork at other places, especially when you’re uninsured. He only asks for basic information, you don’t feel like your signing your life away. His fees are really reasonable for the care you receive and is a flat standard rate of $ 100 for the first visit and $ 50 for a follow up if needed! (Accepts cash and card)
Patients are seen on a first come, first served basis and didn’t take long to get to me. He was very thorough in examining me and made sure to ask as many questions as possible and talk with me in order to determine the best solution. And he took into account that I was uninsured when recommending what to do.
He called to check up on me every day until I was finally feeling better, even when he was sick himself. I’m not sure that there are too many other doctors out there as kind and caring. I was definitely in good hands and will be returning if I ever need care again!

I wish all doctors were like Dr. O’Brien. He is the nicest, sweetest, doctor I have ever been to, and with his years of knowledge and experience I had no doubt I was getting a 100% accurate diagnosis. He took his time discussing things with me, making sure I understood what was going on and why, and was so pleasant and thorough. His prices are very reasonable and the whole experience was easy and quick. I’ll never ever go to the emergency room at a hospital again, and would definitely go to Dr. O’Brien, as well as highly recommend him to anyone needing medical attention.

Came to this walk-​in facility and the Dr was very nice, efficient and had me on my way within 10 minutes. I only gave it a 4 because they don’t bill insurance which kinda sucks but all in all I’d recommend it.

What a great service to the community! A lot of people are without health insurance and this place allows people to get seen by a doctor without breaking the bank. I just started a new job and I don’t have insurance yet. I sprained my ankle and wanted to make sure everything was ok. His services are affordable and quick. I highly recommend this place! Let’s face it– we’re healthy young folk with crap for health insurance and a habit for trying acupuncture first. It hasn’t been on the top of our priority list to get a western family doctor.
When my husband grew a lemon under his ear in the wee hours of a Sunday morning, we knew the only option was the ER or Urgent Care. We live in Oakland, and the ER is a guaranteed 8-​hour expedition. We’ve previously used ER Direct (AMAAAAZING) (
) for times when leaving the house was absolutely out of the question. To save money, and since my husband’s lemon wasn’t really doing anything except looking bizarre, we waited until morning and searched for an urgent care facility that wasn’t a cesspool.
We found the Doctors O’Brien here on Unilocal,called up to get the scoop and were told to arrive right when they opened. We expected a waiting room full of adults with the flu and children with various versions of nondescript contagiousness complete with dripping nose, but there was only one guy ahead of us, and he only looked a little roughed-​out.
Dr. O’Brien (the elder), has to be the sweetest little old man doctor ever to live. With gentle, steady hands, he examined the lemon, kept us smiling and laughing, complimented my quick-​thinking instincts for warm compresses and ibuprofen, and explained everything with a surprising degree of thoroughness. He is clearly very current in his medical knowledge, and he kept me in the conversation. I am used to doctors all but ignoring the partner during an appointment, but Dr. O’Brien even had me look at what he was seeing as he did the examination. He sent us home with a prescription and a genuine desire for us to keep him posted about my husband’s health.
$ 100 for an urgent care appointment is pretty standard, they don’t bill insurance directly, but provide you with all the paperwork you need to easily do it yourself. When it comes down to it, the accessibility of the office and the family doctor feel (no hard, cold, sterility) makes doling out a Benjamin an absolute pleasure.
We expected the second, follow-​up appointment (when the lemon became a grapefruit) to be another $ 100 visit, but to our surprise, Dr. O didn’t charge us. He also took the extra step of finding a specialist and getting my husband an appointment. WHAT.A.BADASS.
We will absolutely go back to the O’Briens for urgent care if need be, and we are considering finding out if they will take us on for family practice. Feeling comfortable in a doctor’s office is a new sensation to both of us, and while we’ll still be choosing natural care over western medicine when possible, it’s nice to know that there’s a western doc out there who has your back.

Who the hell wrote these reviews?! I am sitting here with my friend while a very old man (whose son owns this business and is the actual doctor) is butchering his knee as he tries to remove staples from his knee. His hand is shaking, he can’t see what he is doing and my friend is in a LOT of pain! If you own the practice, don’t have your elderly father cover the after hours clinic for you. I mean he’s very kind and sweet, but come on! He keeps missing the staples because he can’t see and is quite literally ripping the knee back open. And he’s tripping over the light, he really shouldn’t be doing this! We keep asking him to call his son, the doctor, but he is saying «no, no, we’ll get this»
My friend had staples removed in his other knee a week ago and they came out without any problem and with very little pain.
Is this why they charge cash here before they agree to see you?
I don’t know how good the actual Dr. Obrien is but take my word, save yourself a lot of pain, and don’t come to the After Hours Urgent Care…

What a find! My husband and I are new to the area and we didn’t have a doctor in Castro Valley. Well, my husband sprained his ankle and we needed someone ASAP. Walgreens referred us to Dr. O’Brien and I am so thankful. I loved his attitude and his sense of humor. His pricing was straight forward and posted in the lobby. Normally I go to the doctor and I have no idea what things are going to cost until a month later and I am surprised by a bill. This time I knew the cost, paid it, and went on with my day. Awesome.

Dr. Arthur O’Brien was perfect. First like everyone say you call and you get the actual Dr. on the phone. I thought I needed an x ray for my finger and their machine was down for a few days. Decided to go anyway. He looked at it and quickly was able to tell me that it wasn’t broken. Matter of fact I needed to do the opposite of what I was doing. No more Webmd self diagnoses for me. Assured me it was ok. Said I could call anytime with any questions. He said he would even to check on me in a few days if I liked. Talked to me for about 20 min. Total old school. Glad you can find a trustworthy Dr. without paying the $ 400 a month.

I was so surprised and thankful for the great service and caring attitude of Dr. O’Brien!
New Years Eve Day my throat was killing me, and I thought I got Strep again. The other Urgent Cares that I would usually go to were booked for the day, and I didn’t want to go to the ER, so i Unilocaled Urgent Care in CV. The reviews for Dr. O’Brien were great, so I called in. No one answered, but a little while later I get a call from Dr. O’Brien saying, «Did somebody call here?» I explained my situation and he said come on in. How friendly, I thought. We get there, I get seen right away, and my prescription is written up asap. I was in and out within 20 minutes.
Dr. O’Brien (the older one) is so kind and I felt like he genuinely cared about my situation. Plus, his office has a little section of Raiders memoribilia, so it made my boyfriend happy to wait for me!
4 STARS because it would be more convienient to not have to pay the office visit and then file your own claim, because with my insurance I never have an office visit pay and it kinda sucked forking down the money for that. But hey, that’s just me, everyone has different insurance plans.
I will use Dr. O’Brien again if I get sick and I will definitely recommend him to others!

Dr. Arthur O’Brien is awesome! Dropped in on a Saturday due to an issue my mom was having with her ear. Really a genuinely caring doctor. Good old-​fashioned customer service. And affordable for those who don’t have health insurance.
