History

Established in 2009.

Jim Millen, of Millen’s Woodworking, was born and raised in the East Bay and has been a woodworker since the age of 19. He trained under some of the finest woodworkers in the East Bay and honed his skills for 10 years before starting out on his own. Since then, Millen’s Woodworking has been established in the bay area as a top-​notch provider of the best quality cabinets and woodwork available. Millen’s Woodworking is a family business, and we’d love to help meet your family’s needs!

About a month ago I reached out to Jim for the first time to build a custom vanity for my main bathroom that I was remodeling. Yesterday, I received the finish product and I couldn’t be more pleased. The vanity is gorgeous and the craftsmanship is stellar. Jim was extremely easy to work with and he has a great eye for design.
Jim’s rates are very reasonable (at first I didn’t think I was going to afford a custom cabinet but his fees were inline with a box brand — and much more detail and solid construction) and I look forward to working with him in the future.

I found Millen’s Woodworking when I was looking for a local craftsman to create a custom bookcase and entertainment center. Jim came out and personally helped me figure out what would work and was able to get me an estimate the same week. Millen’s Woodworking is a top notch company to work with. Jim is precise in everything he does, even aspects of the cabinetry you don’t see! I know this because of details he mentioned to me regarding the project he did for me. Jim built an awesome entertainment center/​bookcase for us. It looks AMAZING! I bought it from him bare wood, so I will be doing the finishing, but his work looks beautiful. I highly recommend him for any type of project, from a kitchen remodel all the way to a built in entertainment center. He has the knowledge and ability to do just about anything you might throw his way.

Jim and Carolyn are fabulous. We really enjoyed working with them to redo our kitchen. Jim is a true craftsman and Carolyn had some really good ideas that I didn’t think of. Having a 104 year old house made it a challenge. We wanted to keep the correct look for a Craftsman home and Jim did a great job incorporating modern features while keeping the proper look. It was quite tricky to hide some plumbing and quirky things you find in an old house and Jim was up to the challenge. That cabinets are beautiful! We will use him again when we renovate other parts of our home.

Jim and his wife Carolyn designed the perfect full wall library bookcase. With flush and simple cabinet doors along the bottom and a beautiful in/​out design (each of the 5 vertical bookcases alternates between 18″ and 20″ deep). The entire 12′ wide by 10′ tall piece looks wonderful. He showed up at 8 AM and had completely finished installing it by 1 PM. His time and cost estimates were spot on.

Jim built our cherry fireplace mantle. He did a beautiful job. It was exactly as we requested. He finished the job in less than a week. Jim cares about the quality of his work, and is very attentive to the customer. He is on time, and communicative. Nice to work with. We’ll use his services again.

We have had Jim make a few different projects for our home. The most impressive is the bookshelf/​window bench with storage. We often get compliments on it. People say how it really looks like it’s meant to be a part of our house. We love it because it offers us much needed storage and it looks super cool! Millen’s woodworking is a great company to work with. Jim is skilled, creative and efficient.

Jim did a total redo of a large kitchen for us, working with our contractor to give it a new footprint and totally rearranging the layout. He then built us the most gorgeous cabinets either I or our contractor had seen, resulting in a truly spectacular, highly functional, well-​designed, top-​of-​the-​line kitchen. We also had him make new cabinets for both bathrooms, with which we are similarly pleased. Jim is very easy and pleasant to work with — an old-​school, true professional, even though he is a young man.
