Mike’s Hobby Shop Superstore

Loved the place and was happy to see it was free to drive your cars. They have indoor carpet for my drifter and a big outdoor track for my ¹⁄₈ trucks.

Sadly they have closed so you have to find a née place. ¹¹⁄₁₅ so many hobbyist chosen online sales chasing little guys out of buisness.

Bad news, Mikes has apparently closed due to construction on the neighboring highway,. I am too depressed. These types of shops are fast becoming rare and I think the world is a lesser place without them.
If Mike’s reopens, you can bet I will be back as soon as possible. If not, I will mourn its passing for a long time.

I went ‘garagesaling’ about a week ago with my wife, and found an RC Losi Graphite car, with charger, some old batteries, and a remote. I spent a few minutes trying to get it to work figured for the price I couldn’t go wrong. After an hour or so, I hopped on the web to find a hobby shop close by. Mike’s popped up. I remember driving by a few times and know it was easy to get to right off I-​35.
I packed up everything in a large blue duffel and drove there with my son. Walked in and was greeted within seconds by a young man in a hat. He asked if I had any questions and I told him what I had in the bag and its status. He said ‘Lets take a look’. After checking a few things he said, that everything was there and needed to test it. He took the car to his bench and verified it was all working. Found out I had a bad ‘speed controller’. He looked at me and said, we have them, but they are pretty expensive considering the car, but I might have a used one. He dug around in the bench and found one. He tested it, it worked. He then handed me off to another guy very politely and said. He will get you all fixed up.
The tech was probably the nicest person I have met in retail in a long time. He mounted the speed controller, hooked it up to the car, tested everything. Offered me a variety of battery choices and explained the pros /​cons of each one. Then soldered all of the old battery connectors to the new batteries. Tested everything again, explained how the new speed controller worked, all while fielding questions from other employees, and myself. He sold me the used speed controller at a WELL discounted price, along with 2 brand new batteries. Spectacular customer service, and here I am just some guy, with a beat up old garage sale car. But because of that gentleman, if we decide to purchase more cars, or ever need anything hobby related, Mike’s is where I will spend my money.
The selection of ‘hobby’ supplies in the store is enormous. Planes, copters, quad rotors, cars, trucks, boats, rockets. 2 indoor tracks, 1 dirt, one ‘street’, and an outdoor track. Along with a huge «pit» section where 50 – 100 people were all working on various machines.

Huge shop, friendly and helpful people. I needed a custom connector and they even soldered up what I needed so I could just go home, plug, and play!

Not a place for newbies in the RC hobby. I have gone to Mike’s for almost 8 years and used to know majority of the people who work there. Very old school but its the only good hobby shop for miles. I really hope this place relocates and doesn’t shut down!

I stopped by to buy my kid a rc helicopter and Bill was very helpful and patient with us. Cool tracks inside to observe!

Stood around 20 minutes for help and got rude service, employees were too busy chatting amonst theirselveds and were purturbed when i needed help. finally got much needed part and went home and ordered Radio, tires, body paint, esc/​motor, and other parts online. I called Mike — he didint seem to care and hung up on me while I was in mid sentence.

if you want customer service? — you will get better service on the internet.

I went in to browse… place is straight up awesome. Must see. Looks like the prices are reasonable and the sales staff were very knowledgeable.

Good selection of parts for your RC. They do some consignment sales, but I wouldn’t count on them having exactly what you want at any particular time. Indoor carpeted track for the elec cars and dirt w/​jumps for the trucks. They also have an outdoor dirt/​jump track for the nitro trucks. Knowledgeable and helpful staff, but when they get busy you might have to wait a little bit to be helped.

This review goes back a bit but I wanted to post it because I did find a great shop to buy RC stuff locally.
I’m going say that an average store is going to get 3 stars if your behave normally. 1 star if you get treated poorly. In this case, I wanted to purchase a micro copter. There were about at least 5 people there and I got ignored by everyone. Even at
Checkout they weren’t necessarily rude or nice — just sort of there.
Probably a decent place for experienced drivers, they have an awesome indoor track and place to fly, but not for newbies like me.

This place is HUGE — beyond doubt the biggest hobby store I’ve ever seen in the DFW metroplex.
They have a large indoor racetrack area for model cars, and sometimes you will also see a tiny airplane or helicopter buzzing around overhead.
They do have a large stock of parts of all kinds, but I found their prices to be uniformly higher than other hobby stores in the area.
During the first few visits I found the staff to be distant and unapproachable, but that initial impression has since changed — during my latest visit, the man I asked about my problem did help me to solve it quickly.

Mike’s is a wonderful hobby store with everything my family needs for their hobbies. Cars, trucks, & planes galore! The owner, Mike is just wonderful. He has been so friendly to us as well as our children and more than willing to help out any way he can. He has been so GREAT to our children, and the staff there is knowledgable and very friendly. My husband and little boys love the indoor race tracks and flying are. I highly recommend Mike’s Hobbies to all! This is the only place we will be shopping for out hobbies from now on. Thanks Mike’s!
