Dr Riggs is the best, if your looking for a good detailed exam, you got it. His staff is knowledgeable and very helpful.

I saw Dr Riggs and his office staff yesterday. The appointment scheduling process was easy, and the office staff is incredibly friendly and professional. My exam was thorough and Dr Riggs took the time to explain everything to me. He was not rushed in any way and I appreciated that. The selection of glasses was great and the cost was also reasonable. I needed 3 pairs and I was astounded at the low cost for designer frames. I would highly recommend this practice. This is a wonderful office and the entire staff made me feel comfortable. Like a small town family doctor… and I really knew I was in very capable hands with Dr Riggs and his staff.

Dr Riggs is a true professional and knows his stuff. He’s been my optometrist for over five years. Unlike the franchise optometrist, he takes a personal interest in his patients and he is like the old fashion kinda doctor, meticulous and thorough. His staff is equally qualified and the best. The cheapest around don’t know and don’t care — when it comes to eye care I want the best.

I needed a new optometrist when I moved from San Diego to Carlsbad and I found Dr. Riggs through my insurance’s doctor finder website. I’ve been burned in the past by various doctors/dentists who liked to up sell and even over-bill and I was a bit hesitant to try a new place with no Unilocal reviews. I couldn’t find all that many reviews, but there were a few on a doctor review website. I figured I’d give it a go. Here’s my impression after 2 visits: The receptionists are very friendly and eager to help. I have met two so far. I had one small issue with not being given a «discount» for an extra that my insurance didn’t cover(pictures of the back of my eyes). I received a call after my eye exam telling me I hadn’t been billed for it and that they would charge me at my next visit. It took a few minutes to receive the price I was quoted by the doctor, but it was resolved fairly easily and I was given great customer service throughout. Before you sit down with the optometrist the receptionist has you use an ancient looking computer that takes you through some information and the services they might offer based on your responses to the questions asked(medical conditions, eye issues, etc.). It was nice to know that my lifestyle and health was being taken into account and I was warned that I may be offered services that wouldn’t be covered by insurance, though no prices were listed. I was informed of those when I sat down with the eye doctor. I only ended up with one«extra» and it was reasonably priced and seemed helpful. Dr. Riggs does know his stuff. I asked a few optometry related questions and he was very helpful in explaining the answers. I’ve worn glasses and contacts for about almost 10 years and I learned a few new things, which was cool. He was pleasant and we exchanged some nice chit chat during my initial appt. My only small gripe is that I felt like he wasn’t really listening to me a few times and was a bit dismissive of something I mentioned to him(the fact that my eye dilation from my previous visit caused my eyes to water in the sunlight so bad I probably shouldn’t have driven and was super relieved to arrive at my house safely). Thankfully I’m only a few minutes away or we would have had a real problem. It was a little strange to be ignored on that right before I was told to refer others, but I am a chatterbox so I think I should probably give him a break there. But be warned, if you have sensitive/light eyes and you have them dilated it might be safer to get a ride rather than drive yourself.
